I'm sorry but crew members for not have any serious health conditions, every single crew member undergoes a thorough medical examination. What you could of mentioned was someone with allergies to specific foods or a celiac would be good examples of a health related condition that they may have issue with the on board food. As a chef on board cruise liners, I can tell you now that the food varies from ship to ship, and the crew galley is staffed with a full team of professional chefs that cook just for the crew, no costs are cut and the food is generally very good, these guys work very very hard producing over 5000 meals per day on most large cruise liners. If someone has an allergy, they only need to talk to the manager I the crew mess who will provide an allergen sheet with info on all of the menu items. Also if you have a special request you can put it in the day before and the duty manager will make sure you get it. Again depends on cruise lines, this is an example of P&O Cruises.

I'm currently in process to be approved as Technical stage staff at RCI (my first employment). Now, what are my options regarding the food? Am I only limited to crew mess? And, as an active person, can I buy protein rich products/food on board?
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Luka Reeson I assume it would be the same as NCL. Stage crew were allowed in the public buffet. So you can eat in the crew mess and most likely in the passenger areas too. And yes; you will be able to go to the different restaurants onboard like the steakhouses and purchase dinners as well. Good luck!

@CoffeeWithSean6 жыл бұрын
Brittnee-Jade I’m sure that some passengers who board also can have gluten. So I’m sure they have food that is gluten free. But you’ll be in the vast minority. So you would Have to get with the executive chef and make sure you know where that food is for you. But it would likely be limiting.

My wife’s niece has similar issues , they stay in more exclusive cabin suites and they have a small private dining area. Her food was prepared in its own area in galley and no cross contamination occurred during cruise. It can be done if you spend a lot of money.

How do you deal with storms or rough seas on cruise ships? Are there special protocols for crew members during storms? Do you have any stories about times when you encountered rough seas?
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
Lessie Hall Realistically these ships are so big you really don’t feel the motions that much. But there are sometimes tougher seas. Fortunately, I never was in a storm or anything. The thing is, the navigation officers on the Bridge are always watching weather forecasts and they are always tweaking the ships path to make the cruise as calm as possible. This is because of the passengers. I would assume a cargo ship may not care as much about comfort because there are no guests. And it the weather is super bad the ship may just stay in port. So I never really experience very rough seas.

How about Keto/Carnivore? Meaning high fat, low carb diet. Mainly meat, cheese, eggs, some veggies and nuts.
@CoffeeWithSean6 жыл бұрын
Ben Lorenowicz as a blanket statement, I tell people if you have a specific diet, ships will be difficult. Regardless of that diet. Ships is all about taking what you have, doing what you gotta do. But, you can make it work if you are dedicated. Just go into it with the right mindset “it’s going to be hard to maintain my specific diet because I am on a ship and not at home.” You can def find some meats cooked in oil for the fats. Some cheeses but the cheeses are not just out there in the open. it would Be in stuff like pasta. It’s really really hard to go low/no carb on ships. No nuts. At least none that you want for keto. No coconut oil. No butter to really add yourself. Like I said, you’re not at home, you on a ship where others cook for you. Hit the gym more often and do what you gotta do. But I don’t recommend getting on a ship if you can’t deviate from a diet. Good luck!

@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
The68VeeDub Some crew members are allowed to eat in the buffets. Some crew are not. With each position and department comes different levels of privilege.
@Road2PBATour6 жыл бұрын
Sean Price O ok at first it didn't make sense why crew wouldn't eat passenger food, but now it does. Because the passengers cruise fare pays for that food. I do have another question though in terms of spa workers what are there hours like since they are contracted with a seperate agency because I'm wanting to do massage on the ships and was wondering if they get breaks.
@mseanprice6 жыл бұрын
The68VeeDub On myships The spa crew worked the most it seemed. For the most part they were working between 12 and 14 hours each day. And they only were off for one hour at lunch and one hour at dinner. The other time off they got for getting off the ship in port and stuff was “earned” based on their sales and reaching commission goals. It looked rough in my opinion. The spa company on my ships was Steiner.

sameer ra3d the food is free. There is no cell service on board. But you can pay for phone minutes and internet minutes. Its expensive though.
