As someone that sailed in the US Merchant Marine for over 30 years, mostly on Commercial Cargo and Tanker but I did sail as an Engineer on a couple of Cruise ships, it's nice seeing people make videos like this showing and tell what shipboard life is really like. One thing that I was told really hit home. Never work on a Ship where the "Cargo" can talk back. LOL

Here is the scoop: do as I do: I do not drink any kind of alcohol, maybe every once in while, every six months? I don't even like the taste of alcohol: find it like taking medication … drink fruit or vegetable juices, tea, coffee, chocolate. And if some one pushes you to drink alcohol send him/her to fly a kite. If you get extra time, then use it productively: learn something useful, maybe language skills, or maybe some useful trait even by reading some good books. Or the best … I read the Bible everyday and I know that I am not alone, no mater who are or are not with me.

I worked as a manager in the service industry for over 40 years and all I can say is cruise ship managers sound like they're terrible at their job. They should be able to manage their people well enough to give them a comfortable working schedule and they should have the brains to realize that an overworked crew member is not asset. Good for your team working a comfortable solution if a willing manager and team work together they could come up with some incredible solutions to get the job done without treating everyone like a piece of meat.

@mseanprice
@mseanprice 6 жыл бұрын
Gleudson Junior So the sports instructors, at least on NCL, were basically cruise staff. During the day, you will be in charge of the outside activities. Climbing wall, tennis, basketball, soccer, water slides, pool activities. Sometimes cruise staff will do that too but sports instructors are the outside people. But then at night; you will proabably be doing what cruise staff does. Dressing up in your more formal evening uniform, and you’ll be at the shows as ushers or selling bingo and tickets, and you will probably be at the night events dancing st the theme parties too. Expect to be super super busy. It should be fun though

My sister got us a cruise on carnival. I had a blast but still felt guilty that all these folks from poor countries bust their ass and see all this extravagance, wasted food, etc. for low pay. We always tip well but I still feel guilty as an American, even if I work paycheck to paycheck in a factory. I try to talk to them about themselves and tried not to make them go through extra effort on my behalf. Tried not to be an asshole.

@CoffeeWithSean
@CoffeeWithSean 6 жыл бұрын
A. B. No. You nationality means nothing when it comes to roommates. And no, if your contract is to share a room, you will share a room. If you dislike your current roommate you can tell HR and they will attempt to move you to another room with another roommate. But you will never be given your own cabin unless your job title is high enough to have one.

Recently went on a cruise on the Disney Fantasy. Most of the crew were from other countries, with hardly any from the US. I have no issue with it, just very curious.
@CoffeeWithSean
@CoffeeWithSean 6 жыл бұрын
Omaha419 most crew members are not from the US or Canada because we expect more money for our work. Also, we get paid more back in the US and Canada for lesser jobs. So most crew members are from other countries because those people are willing to work for less. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, because even though compared to US currency, they may be making low pay, when they take that US pay back home and exchange it into their currency, it may be more than they could make back home.

@CoffeeWithSean
@CoffeeWithSean 6 жыл бұрын
W0LL3 from what I saw; the engine crew worked more specific shift hours. Like 8am to 8pm. I don’t think many of the engine crew could come into passenger areas. Maybe only managers. Everyone is able to get off at ports if they’re not working. But the entertainment team had a lot more freedom in being able to be in public areas.

@@lianelow4176 It's hard life these days. It used to be fun back in the 2000s. I can offer you some advice from mybexperience on board Carnival ships, also MSC. English language obviously is a must, the rest you learn. It deppends on whether or not the company requires previous experience as a photographer or not. (That can be an advantage). There are other aspects, such as medical and eventually IMO certificates. If you want, we can talk more details on IRC or some other safe way.

@@cyberp0et I’ve been a photographer for 4 years I’m just doing this for the money and to see the world for a bit. I know the hours are going to be brutal. I obviously speak English and a little bit of French. Did you get much time off the ship?
@cyberp0et
@cyberp0et 2 жыл бұрын
@@lianelow4176 Once or twice a week we would get (by rotation) a "morning off", where we could go off the ship as soon as the ship docked and didn't have to work in the morning. So we could have, for example time to go outside since around 8 AM till 5PM. Those were the days. But now there is no such thing any more. Double work, same salary, less free time, more corporate bullshit and more and more pressure. Back in 2008-2010 (when I worked for Carnival) it used to be great. You would work hard, but also get your free time to recharge your batteries. I remember that the average free time outside in 2010 was about three hours. hardly had the time to gou out for an hour or two, then had to be back.For hours was about the most in one week. No morning offs, and embarkation off was only for ass-lickers. And your work got rewarded. Not any more. A lot of ass lickers have been promoted as well ("diversity" presumably). I would rather work fora lot less money and not be a slave and enjoy what is beautiful around me.

@@lianelow4176 Take as little luggage as possibly can. The more lightweight the better. And when on board do not allow STRESS to affect you. There are plenty of a-holes working on cruise ships whose lives are miserable, and are doing their best to make other one's as miserable as theirs (while pretending they are so "happy and gay") . Get off the ship as much as you possibly can and avoid wasting your nights. Rest is important during the nights.

Hi Sean, I have recently being offered a job of Front Desk Executive in cruise by Emrill Consultancy Recruitment. Can you help me to understand the Job and responsibilities of the same. Thanks in advance.
@mseanprice
@mseanprice 7 жыл бұрын
Sagar Bhujel assuming you are onboard a ship, for the most part; the front desk people deal with the guests. Like the front desk of a super busy hotel. You deal with complaints and answering questions. It can be tiring because the hours are long and you aren’t moving a lot; but more because cruise ships passengers can get pretty annoying. And most of the front desk people did other duties too. If you speak other languages you may be asked translate the daily itineraries. I would assume you will Be mainly guest facing. However, I haven’t heard of that recruiting agency. So once you know what company and what ship you will be working on, I maybe able to know a little more info. Congratulations on the offer!!

Sean Price thanks a ton Sean! It’s nice to hear from you. Further, EMRIL RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY is basically a third party agency who is hiring for CRUISE. It is located at Sydney (Australia). Often I feel that may be I am being cheated as I cannot see any website of this agency and when I asked them they said it is under development hence unable to check the website.

Sagar Bhujel Just don’t pay them any money. Sometimes the agencies as part of your contract will take a percentage but no agency should be having you pay them upfront. Also, on some of the cruise line websites you can find a list of agencies they use in different companies. See if you can find a list to double Check
@mseanprice

Bruno Covic No. crew weren’t allowed in the passenger pool. But on all my ships; there was a hot tub on the front of the ship near the bow that was just for crew. It was a private sun deck area just for us. So we could go there in our free time. And passengers aren’t allowed there

Cake Is Real I am pretty sure the minimum age is 21. Sorry. Some of the other companies that are brought on to ships, though; you could be younger. Like the spa company Steiner. But I say apply anyway and see what happens. Good luck!

@CoffeeWithSean
@CoffeeWithSean 5 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Fernandez so I said this is my “dating” video. But I personally would not go work on a cruise ship if I were married or in a relationship, unless that person I’m married to or dating is on the ship with me. Too many temptations. But that’s just me. Many people make long distance work. But there is always opportunity for companionship onboard
