Awesomesauce x 1000!!! A quonset hut between 2 shipping containers!!! Absolutely terrific! The door has such a simple mechanism. SO much better than a traditional garage door. Thank you for building this! I wish I had the room to do this.

That is amazing, I love the door, it gives you full access across the shop, no issues with extra wide vehicles or anything. Love the windows and amount of light that comes in.

My brother built a farm shop with I believe is a schweis bi fold door 44x18. It has 6" wide cargo straps in lew of cables but the same principal. Those doors are soggy for sure! His has a man door built into the bi fold door. I didn't see how the containers handle the water runoff from the arch roof. Is there a slant roof on each container??

I took a ton of screen shots once I realized just how simple the mechanism was! I have several barn doors, shop doors, garage and machine shop doors that can benefit from such a simple system.

2:34 Pro tip, to prolong your time on this planet, avoid having that stove hot (lit or even embers still going) when working on ANYTHING that has flammable fumes or could create flammable fumes that GO BOOM. Working on a vehicle is generally safe but having a open flame heat source that can not be turned off quickly is a HUGE liability. If something like a fuel line pops off while you're working on a vehicle, those gasoline fumes could lead to some tense moments as you try to open that huge door to get enough fresh air in to reduce the chance of an explosion. Also, your insurer will give you a much higher quote for a fire stove heater.

The hanger door looks really cool. Love the clear panels on the top half of the door. Planning on one for my shop build next spring. Looking at schweiss and diamond. Quotes from each may make that decision easier to make! We have schweiss doors on two of the buildings at work and they work great, nice to see a diamond in action here. Containers at the edge makes sense to me!! No reason to encroach on the valuable interior floor space with storage that is already sealed up! If you ever want a storage mezzanine you can always add that in the future and keep the ground level floor space under it. Our zoning and planning here can be rough sometimes. I'm curious if the square footage of the containers is considered part of the building or a standalone 'temporary structure' and counted separately. I may have to shoot you guys an email to share some of my concepts for my space.

Awesome Build. I'm really curious on the total price of material. Mainly just the concrete slab, the containers, and the Quonset arches only. Not the end caps or anything else. Mind filling me in?

0:26 you would gain the triangle of storage, but lose the rectangle of storage / floor space below it....

The door is impressive. What's the contingency for a loss of power or mechanical failure? Can the lifting tube be hand cranked to raise the door?

My roof covers the containers. Lots of storage and much more stable temperatures in the containers.

I'd like to see how the roof is sealed up against those containers.
@spevakdesigns8 ай бұрын
Me too! I could imagine some L flashing from the flat top edge of the container tucked up a few inches behind the bottom of the quonset hoops would get it done. Looks like the quonset lands farther out on the containers though. There are about three different profile options for shipping containers corrugations so I could imagine there's at least one company out there manufacturing a product for this.
@selador11 Жыл бұрын
You wouldn't gain storage by moving the box inward. You would LOSE storage. Less overall space inside. You still have that 'triangle, even now. You just haven't lost all the space underneath that triangle, that would be filled up by the box..

@The Good of the Land: I am a fan of the volume on the inside. Looking into Quonset I understand it is 40 feet x 50 feet. But what is the height of your build or the Quonset you built specifically? Great video thank you.

@@brianreynolds5246 40' sea containers are about $5500 where I'm at, the Quonset steel for that size $40k?, the concrete slab that thick $10-12k?, electrical work, and then labor cost...... We used to always figure at least double the material cost if you hire the work out

I don't understand the enamorment with shipping containers. They don't save any money if finishing them. Work ok for quick storage. Work as a living space if they need to be moveable (miliary, oil field, etc). Just build a bigger shop and throw in a partition wall. Easy peasy and cheaper.
