F.Y.I. This package shipped as Priority. Always pay the appropriate postage for boxes used. Flat rate boxes not permitted. If using a regular Priority box, Priority postage due. My goal for double bubble is to replace double boxing with an outer layer of bubble wrap w/ poly mailer to avoid pushing it to or over the next pound. All packages are subject to inspection by USPS and appropriate postage required. I DO NOT support misuse of USPS boxes, mailers or incorrect postage.

This was going to be my question. Would be helpful if you added something to the end of your video stating to pay Priority postage to clarify. 😃 Appreciate the idea! I will be trying it as I’ve had a couple items arrive broken recently. 🙄

Good video. I’m following up. Trying to see how you do fragiles. You have some great common sense hacks. We’re you able to use priority cubic for this? Or have you used that method. I think it’s a bit tricky myself and I don’t want to misuse it, so Ive only used it once.

@@AvanteAvenue i don’t know that some are intentionally misusing because it’s clear but only if you go research it. I used priority cubic that once because I had a heavy item. I guess that’s the main benefit. Otherwise, I don’t see the huge saving in it but maybe I’m missing something as well. I loved this video. Glad I followed. 🙂

I have worked aircraft maintenance for decades and the term "double bubble" means something different in that world. It is referring to a small one portion package of two part epoxy. It is in an envelope with two bubbles of the mixture you tear it and squeeze out the contents of both sides and mix it. :) I use a variation fo this technique on larger items all the time. Layers of bubble and cardboard...

I know I’m going to take heat for this. Looks environmentally wasteful with excessive packing materials. I agree with everything up to the double wrapping. I suggest wrapping the owl as shown so it packs- tight- in a 6” or 7” brown box and stop there. I ship a lot like that on eBay and never had a problem. I’ll then use pirate ship cube rate - it’s cheap. I buy my boxes in like 25 packs from my local box supplier or eBay packs of 25 so I’m returning the love to other eBay sellers. Works for me. I love your other vids and all your tips. Keep them coming. Thanks.
@AvanteAvenue3 жыл бұрын
No heat from me but here’s how I look at this. This is just one of a few times that I’ve ever used this double bubble method because I was pushing over the next pound if double boxed. Since it was already packaged I came up with the idea of the extra bubble wrap and Polymailer so I decided to share this as an option. I have been selling fragile items for well over a decade. I get wonderful Feedback from my buyers about my packaging. I have never once received a comment that I over packed or wasted packing material. To me, it’s only a good buy for someone if it arrives safely. It’s only a good sale for me, if it arrives safely. And that is my ultimate goal. I see on Facebook all the time photos of items that have arrived shattered. Vintage items. Things they’ve been looking for, for years only to have it arrive in pieces and they are heartbroken. So I pack with whatever it takes to make sure my items arrive safely. What the buyer does with my packing materials is completely up to them. Hopefully they donate the materials to a reseller friend or recycle it themselves when shipping or giving fragile gifts. Like taking leftovers home from a restaurant or ordering takeout, the restaurant chooses the materials that they feel is best to package the food for delivery or pick up or take home. What the customer does with the containers is completely up to them. I too order my boxes in bulk to keep the cost down and in fact I order all of my materials in bulk to keep the cost down. Thank you for your input and glad you’re enjoying my other videos.🙂❤️👍🍁

There is nothing more wasteful than a rare 200 year old vase arriving to its new home shattered in pieces. Use whatever you must to keep the item you ship safe. I know this from experience. I actually have a double bubble box waiting to ship out tomorrow. I thought of it myself trying to figure out how to avoid double boxing an item already in a large box. With shipping prices so high it is always a challenge to ship light and tight, without sacrificing the safety of the item.

Could you tell me where to get those large bags that you used to cover the box? I think it's a great idea cuz I'm running in trouble on shipping dishes. By the time you put all that bubble wrap in it you don't have any room for all the dishes.

I get my poly mailers from upaknship - they have all sizes of poly mailers. But you can never use too much bubble wrap on the inside of the box for glassware. Hope this helps and thanks for asking! 🙂❤️👍🍁

Hi love your videos I'm always frugal about overhead how much more does it cost you to package in such a way? When I got my wife into ebay she bought all these ceramic and glass items. I was selling things like knives, and tools collectibles you could put in a small mailer, and run over it with your car and it won't damage it. The other thing I'm not fond of selling breakables is the weight. However my wife is a natural at both picking out bargains and she really has an eye for winning products for sure. Looks like I'm gonna be stocking up on bubble wrap. Great video thanks again.

I have actually spent quite a bit of time shopping for my shipping supplies. In fact, if you open the drop-down box below my videos, you will find links to my supplies, including Bubble Wrap. These are Amazon affiliate links but it doesn’t cost you any more than it does me. You also find links for my go to foam wrap and packaging tape etc. Also, when you are shopping bubble wrap, be sure to compare the square foot price. It is very easy to be misled by the lower cost and yet it cost you more per sheet, square foot. I still feel that the suppliers I found have the best prices and the best quality. Bubble Wrap is not all the same. I use either 1/4 inch or large 1/2 inch and I typically buy four rolls of large at a time and two rolls of small. I avoid buying all Bubble Wrap locally because it is very poor quality and not 1/2 inch thick. I avoid the U-Haul store, Walmart and the Home improvement stores. You get very poor quality and pay way too much. As to boxes, I shop those as well but my go to supplier when I buy in bulk is packagingprice.com (I am not sponsored). When I order boxes from them, I try to reach almost $100 so that I’m not paying over $20 in shipping. That seems to work well for us. It has been well worth the investment for the shipping supplies to sell breakables. We make the most profit on these type of items. I hope you know that I have over 50 pack and ship videos on a playlist on our channel. I have shown how to pack and ship a variety of items. When I started Ebay over a decade ago, I too stayed away from large and fragile items. What did I sell? Craft and sewing patterns mostly and a few very small fragile figurines. Boy, am I glad that I got over that! One of the reasons that I did choose to go into dishes and fragile is because many other resellers don’t want to mess with it. So when we go to sales, that’s mostly what we would find left on the tables as everything would be picked over. It was a good decision. Hope this information helps and hope you check out my affiliate links in the description below this video. Your purchase most certainly helps support our channel and as I said it doesn’t cost you any more than what we pay. Thank you so much for watching, asking and supporting our channel! Hope you subscribed. 🙂❤️👍 I also did a video recently on calculated shipping which is what I use for selling fragile items on eBay.

@@AvanteAvenue Years ago I was in computer service. UPS had this type of expanding foam in a bag to ship PCs. You would just squeeze it to activate it and shove it in the box over the PC and it would form around it. Thanks for the great advise my wife will be happy that I'm feeling more confident about shipping her breakables.
@AvanteAvenue2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I wouldn’t think that expanding foam and fragile items would be a good match. It’s not like they are made from hard plastic or hard materials. My best suggestion is good quality bubblewrap and lots of care in packing. P. S. Remember I have lots of pack and ship videos.

Can someone use brown wrapping/mailing paper to wrap the box after the double bubble wrap if no polymailer is available? Also, do you have a video of how to pack and ship delicate candlesticks that have, for example, calla lily flowers?

Thanks. Great demonstration. Does this qualify for "box-in-a-bag" shipping charge?
@AvanteAvenue3 жыл бұрын
No, it does not qualify because I wrapped the polymailer to fit/conform around the box. It’s my understanding that box in a bag requires the corners of the bag to be loose/normal bag shape. There is a limit in length to box in a bag but I don’t recall the maximum measurements. Thank you! 🙂❤️👍🍁

Hi. So when you prepare the shipping label for an item double bubbled like this, is it considered a bag, a bag in a box, or a box? Do you just measure the dimensions and weigh it to get the correct type label? Thank you.
@AvanteAvenue4 жыл бұрын
I measured it as a box, entering measurements and weight. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and for your question. 🙂
@AvanteAvenue4 жыл бұрын
I checked with my post office and they said a package (polymailer) and box are considered the same, just enter the dimensions. I’m leaning towards choosing “package” because I use a polymailer as my final layer. If it ever goes missing, I’d be filing a claim to look for a polymailer wrapped package. Hope this helps.

How did you calculate shipping cost on eBay listing(it was $8+) for the pie plate without yet knowing you would use a large flat rate Box before it sold?
@thruthedecadesebayantiqueb98383 жыл бұрын
And wasn't it more expensive for shipping using the large flat rate Box more than the $8 change the shipping cost showed on your eBay listing? I loved the video but just very curious about the shipping cost and how it is pre calculated before it is sold
@AvanteAvenue3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t use a flat rate box. It was regular Priority. As to the shipping that is shown, it always shows the shipping as if I shipped it to me. For whatever reason, when a seller looks at their own listings, ebay always shows the shipping from the sellers ZIP Code which is always less than what the shipping cost is to the buyer. This is true for active or sold listings. It’s always calculated and shown based upon the sellers zip code. The actual cost was far more than $8. I set my listings to calculated shipping and enter a weight range, say (example) 3-4 pounds. I also enter the box dimensions whenever it is a large box. Hope this helps. Thanks for asking. 🙂❤️👍

What shipping method did you use to mail this? What label did you use? Thanks.
@AvanteAvenue3 жыл бұрын
For items over 1 pound, I always use USPS calculated shipping when setting up my listing. Under 1 pound, USPS 1st class “package”. If over 1 pound, I choose a weight “range” 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 etc. when doing my listing. Most of the time, I get the estimated shipping right. On occasion, I have to adjust my packing techniques to shave off a little weight. Thus, why I came up with double bubble to reduce the weight since double boxing can add a lot of weight. It’s been quite some time since I did this video. This package was sent Priority mail. Hope this helps. 🙂❤️👍

But this is considered misuse by USPS. Lol otherwise everyone would be getting free usps boxes and covering them up.
@AvanteAvenue3 жыл бұрын
No. I used a regular Priority box and paid Priority postage. The USPS reserves the right to inspect any package. Misuse would be using a flat rate box and shipping as regular priority or using a priority box and shipping as 1st class. Misuse is in the hands of the person who knowingly misuses this method. A regular ebay box could be used for 1st class similar to a “box in a bag” or sent Priority. The description below the video clarifies the intent of this method (Ex: keep 1+ pounds from going to or over 2 pounds) which can happen if double boxing.

Are you still shipping priority with this double bubble method?
@AvanteAvenue4 жыл бұрын
Yes, if I find the box weight going over my estimated shipping and yet I need extra protection for a fragile item. With shipping as high as it is, using my double bubble technique, instead of double boxing, has helped save $. I used it recently in #18 Pack and Ship Video. Check the playlist.

I've almost lost money on items I had calculated shipping on because USPS rates have just recently increased? eBay is not making the calculated difference? If I listed something 6 months ago, there is no change? Thank you for sharing this video!

We get shipping discounts purchasing labels through eBay, but my older listings are literally coming close to the Penny's of shipping cost? I charge calculated shipping to the buyer 90% of the time...now my free shipping prices have increased rates too? Have you experienced this?

I'm feeling like I need to go into my listings & revise? That would be very time consuming & tedious! Some of my listings have very small margins & others I would be okay with. But losing any amount of money on anything is definitely not my business model....what would you suggest?
