I was fortunate enough to work in the USA for three years, and during that time I managed to see one of her shows. I have always like Shirley, but to see her perform live was simply mesmerising, the way she can move her body parts in different directions is incredible, it is as though her bones are not connected like a standard "Normal" person. The way she interprets the music is unique.

I love Bob Fosse and his choreography. My beloved folks attended high school with him in Chicago, and they were friends. Bob and my mom danced frequently danced together at “sock hops;” which may be where I got my love of dance, along with my musical grandfather. Shirley also uses some Fosse moves when she sings “I’m still Here,” in “Postcards from the Edge,” a must watch film and MacLaine performance.🎶❤️🎶

Probably older than 46; Hollywood & theatre didn't play that shi...; they always put their age back; makeup wigs danskin character shoes & stockings and a lot of hours in ballet...Shirley could have been 50 when she did this show...bottom line, you are RIGHT she is a BRILLIANT ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIMES...unfortunately, VERY RARE THESE DAYS...

What impresses me the most is her discipline. It was clear that she wouldn't much need her dancing skills in her 40s but she still maintened that physique which allowed her to do this presentation. I mean she couldn't know she would do this presentation, first she maintened the physique and then someone offered her to film this. Apart from that she was just working out and stretching on a regular basis in order to stay this fit. Just wow, what a will power.

In the subtitles for the "black choreographers" segment, the name Geoffrey Holden is displayed. That should be Geoffrey Holder, with an R at the end. Pretty sure Shirley said it correctly, just hard to hear. She had a right to be a bit winded. Fabulous dancing. For those who didn't know, MacLaine got her big Broadway break as a chorus dancer in Pajama Game, when she understudied Carol Haney. Haney was famous for never missing a show…until she did. Shirley went on, and a star was born. Sounds like a movie plot but absolutely true.

LaDaryl Barker wow, really? Have you never seen Sweet Charity? Gotta put that one on your must watch list! I always felt that movie was some of the best dancing Hollywood ever did, and Shirley was the star of it. I hope you enjoy it! Shirley was a dancer before she was ever a Hollywood actress - she originally wanted to be a ballet dancer, but she got too tall. I always admired, though, that she gracefully slid into acting, and never tried to fight the progress of time. She always found roles that suited her as she aged and she excelled in all of them!

It’s amazing how only relatively recently background dancers became integrated again, ethnically. For much of my life, they were always White or ambiguous, at least if they were featured enough so that they were identifiable. THIS is “making the dancing world great again”!

You'll see her why Shirley MacLaine is one of my favorites - and not just because she looks like my late wife Marty . . .

Shirley was lucky to be a performer and dancer in her time. Her back was so inflexible. Never get away with that now. Always liked her as a performer.
