Yussif testifies the the legitimacy of Lazareth's death because his own father was aquainted with Lazarus (in the Chosen) and was amung the mourners at his home and was one of the eye witnesses of the raising of Lazarus. It's also possible the toumb in which Lazarus was laid was cut by Yussif's father or their stone quarry, stone cutting buisness.

The scene also illustrates how apparent “opinion” can be manipulated. “Do you believe in scripture or do you believe in the Nazarene?” That’s a bit like saying “Are you going to see things my way/the way of the prescribed narrative, or are you going to be damned for asking questions and being seen as an outlier?” Not many (as we know from more recent prescribed narratives) are brave enough to stick their heads above the parapet and take the flak.

I can see how parallels can be drawn from the Great Sanhedrin's use of emotional manipulation to the Democrat's use of it today. Back then their argument was not to believe your own eyes regarding the resurrection of Lazarus, but instead believe what we tell you to believe. This is very similar to Democrats telling people that inflation is not real and our borders are secure. Democrats chose to ignore what people are seeing at the border and paying at the grocery store. Instead they used a captured and corrupt media to tell you not to believe your own eyes. But unlike the Great Sanhedrin back then, the American people were not going to be fooled again.

Exactly! They were blinded by scripture that they misinterpreted. They were blinded by Prophecies that they misunderstood. The believed the Prophecies spoke of the Messiah being a great Military Leader, although none of the Prophecies ever said that, but it was taught and believed amongst the Jews and religious teachers. I wonder today, in 2024, how many Prophecies in the book of Revelation have we misunderstood? Prophecies are being fulfilled before our very eyes, but so many people are missing it because “an event” hasn’t happened yet. So many people missed Jesus as the messiah because “a great military leader” hadn’t arrived yet. They missed the prophecies for their lack of understanding. Let’s ask God to give us understanding and make sure we don’t miss what he is doing on Earth and through his church right now. Ask for clarity and understanding. I often find myself thinking of that one priest from season 4 who talked about how David’s father didn’t find him worthy of meeting Samuel and how greatness can come from the most unexpected places, then went on to speak of getting Jesus executed to further his own political goals. Loved seeing that scene, Dallas gave us a gem! It shows Jussif more confident than before, Ivan Jasso with a wonderful job there...and Shaan Sharma's performance as Shmuel - just flat out wow. I know it had to be this way, but it sure is heartbreaking to see how those who knew of or even witnessed Jesus' signs and wonders and heard his words still could not believe and eventually schemed his earthly demise.

This calls back to something Nicodemus said in season one, because of his image of who God is and how is God suppose to act, he putting God in a box. The line of Hillel, Shimon and Gamaliel are historical figures. Paul only mentions Gamaliel in the New Testament in Acts 22:3 . Many of the other members are just in the show only. These include Gaderah, Shmuel, zebediah. As far as we know these are non-biblical characters.

Some believe the first three gospels did not mention Lazarus' resurrection because he was still alive and hiding from the religious leaders. John's gospel was likely written later, after Lazarus had already died for the second time.

It’s an emotional response, Jesus is so much different than Shmuel could ever imagine the Messiah to be that he can’t reconcile the two. So in his mind it is set that Jesus is a false prophet and evil even if he can’t prove it now.

Because he and his compatriots have power until Messiah arrives. The people follow them. If Jesus is really Messiah people will follow Him. That is the underlying reason. The stated reason is the responsibility Shmuel and the Sanhedrin have to keep the people from error. It doesn’t occur to them that they are keeping the people from their King.
