I'm SO glad I gave them a chance. If you told me the band who made "If You Leave" was capable of this I would've been skeptical. It helped that I heard "Enola Gay" at a club. I was like what the hell, this is awesome! Top dancing track!

One of the seminal tracks from this album; the sombre, gothic tone to this album was attributed to the death of Ian Curtis from Joy Division and its effect on Paul and Andy, and this track in particular is attributed to Curtis, and making reference to the unique way he danced on stage (hence the opening line).

This is just an epic song. Remembering Ian Curtis who they had toured with.

Yeah, it's fascinating to listen to how their sound kept changing during the early 80s. All still being really enjoyable.

As their sound changed they still continued to deliver some classic tracks regardless. Many criticised them for the shift to conformity and a mainstream sound but without that era they would not have sustained in the longer term.

@@SJ-tk4ri You mean that after the commercial suicide that was DAZZLE SHIPS they needed to conform to the mainstream in order to survive as a band? That's probably true although no one knows what could have happened if they had done it differently. I still love a lot of their late 80s and 90s output, "Pandora's Box", "The Black Sea", "Stay (The Black Rose...)" for example, but there were more and more songs I am not able to enjoy, like the S/A/W-esque "Dreaming" or most of the LIBERATOR album. In the end it's just opinions anyway, and I can still choose what to like from their back catalogue and what not to listen to.

I totally agree with all you say; Dreaming wasn’t good enough for a single, Liberator was a step too far (Dream of Me and King of Stone save it from being a 0/10 rating). Walking on the Milky Way and New Head were fantastic and different, respectively and I loved the return to the choral sounds on Sugar Tax. The recent albums have had some excellent material; Ghost Star, The View From Here and Metroland are as good as any of their previous output

@@SJ-tk4ri Yep, the recent stuff is great. Although "recent" is quite a stretch. I wish they'd come up with something new or at least rerelease the neglected albums from CRUSH onwards.

@@sebzematik I think there is a new album - Bauhaus Staircase - due this year🤞🏼

If depression was music THAT would probably be it!

Try the gut-wrenching International and also the somber The Romance of the Telescope, both tracks from OMD’s 1983 album, Dazzle Ships.

Souvenir is much better. This one is DARK. Knew OMD were melancholic but wow..
