The plaintiffs say they hired the defendant to do an inspection on a house they ended up purchasing. They say he failed to detect a major issue with the electrical panel, which caused some fire damage to the panel itself. They are suing the defendant for the cost of a new panel. The defendant claims it’s not part of his job to dismantle an electric box, and the plaintiffs only called him about the issues a year later. He does not think he made any mistakes on the job.

What is the point of hiring an inspector if not to inspect... I think he should have sued for a refund on services rendered not the box. The fact is the defendant's negligence created damages in the form of missing a major repair that should have been noted and deducted from the cost of the house... Heck that's what you're paying for!

Judge M is extra testy in this episode. Needlessly so. It's unfortunate that the plaintiffs didn't get the electrician to note his assessment his work order. Without something definite, the decision couldn't be in their favor. But the defendant seemed shifty. I think he missed the plastic cover on inspection, but of course he's not going to admit that 8n court.

The plaintiffs should have a home inspection report that would have pictures of the panel. Odd that they come to court without a copy of the inspection report.

@@butterbeanfarmer7952 You don't. I've lived in flats (twice) that were for sale, and both times the "inspector" missed major issues. As a tenant, nothing could be said. Felt bad for the people in the first case, because it cost them big time.

The home buyers higher an inspector and his job is to diligently look for any problems as he works for you and if so you can use them, problems he finds, as a negotiation. You could tell the inspector wanted to say more but knew he was going to win so he just bit his lip. I have purchased and sold several homes and certified inspectors know their job because they realize it can come back to haunt them. I'm also a contractor so you do you research and find out if they are a good inspector. Bad ones don't last long anyway.

Wait what? We moved into a town home. We rent. The owner of the home had an inspector come in a bit after we moved in and he took pictures of EVERY THING!! And it’s a 3 story town home. Every little thing. So this is a weird case.

Hiring HOME INSPECTOR before you buy a house is one of the stupidest things you can do. its a waste of money and those home inspectors dont know anything. If you want a professional to inspect your house before buying. Hire an ACTUAL tradesman to do it. Hire a plumber to inspect plumbing. Hire an electrician to check electric. Hire a roofer to check the roofer etc. Hiring a "home inspector" is a complete 100% waste of money

Inspectors are not electricians ,or plumbers its an outside view to make sure roof is good foundation structurally sound ,for electric n plumbing its worth the service charge to have them come out for 30--1hr n have a look around

They were getting a generator put in so they had no reason to go into the breaker box except if it was tripped off. So they had no fire or etc. Which means the issue was there previously and the inspector should have seen the problem 🧐
