Also at the end of Thomas street before the show people were giving out free tshirts with ‘gentrifi’cc’ation’ and ‘posh ccunts’ on and there was a huge crowd scrambling for them. Most people did get excited and love the fact Manchester was being highlighted by the brand coming and the Sofia Coppola short promo was great. I also did love seeing the 60s and 70s nods in the show which was beginning of the manc cultural revolution in Britain and also the Corrie style fur lined cardis..- I really did see the nods to manc and cottonopolis with the designs particularly the second half of the show. At exactly the same time we also loved that everyone here immediately took the piss out of them thinking they could ride the coattails of what makes Manchester cool- (the antithesis of what Chanel the brand is) and the whole week was like aliens had landed in the city- everyone was welcoming in the classic northern way but bemused and sarcastic about it at the same time

Chanel's PR knows nothing. If you want to hold your show in a public residential area, you involve the locals, that should be the whole point right ? If not, hold your show privately, in a castle or something. But to then tell the locals who live there, to do this and don't do that, the PR disaster, only reinforces that Chanel is elitist ( not elite ). Then why show in a ordinary street ? Well that letter was just a red rag to a bull 😂. If they’d kept their gob shut nobody would’ve cared but telling the people of Manchester not to do something will draw attention to doing the exact opposite. I spent the first 28 yrs of my life in M’cr and in the ‘90s when the Northern Quarter morphed into its new, alternative creation. I understand why Chanel chose to show there given the past textile trade but I doubt anyone from the NQ would be actually shop at Chanel.
