Hi, my family migrated to the U.S. in the 1800s - 1950s, and they were from Brave. I'm rigging my 44-foot sailboat and plan to visit sometime next year. I was watching a video yesterday of "African Tigress" trying to cross a zebra crossing in Nigeria and no car stopped, but I saw today that this was not the case here and the car stopped so you could cross. Understand that Badiu comes from the Portuguese language which means stray. It is a pejorative term used by slaves who fled to the mountains. It has nothing to do with ethnicity. Sampadjudo doesn't exist either. Just pejorative terms that we use to insult each other. These terms are normalized in society but they are not correct.

The term does not mean "stray." It originates from the word "vadiar," historically referring to slaves who frequently fled. Today, it is used as an ethnic identifier because we, the Badiu, are a distinct ethnic group with different origins from the rest of the Cape Verdean population. Only you Sampadjudos consider it pejorative, creating falsehoods such as the belief that only those from Barlavento are Sampadjudo. In fact, migration patterns show that the Barlavento population descends from the people of Fogo and Brava, and genetic data would reveal that all Sampadjudos are interconnected due to the endogamy practiced by the mestizo community. While the term may have originated with a derogatory connotation, it remains accurate given the ethnic and even racial differences between the two groups.

Any dumb ass can look at the DNA test results from all the islands and the African origin is identical. The difference between islands is the. non-African %. You may want to fall into this trap of divide and conquer of the West, but it won't do any Cape Verdeans good. Endogamy in Cape Verde is due to proximity isolation like the rest of the world.
