Nearly 20 years ago I was working as a plumbers mate on a job in a local agricultural college. One day a group of sparkies were around round the end of an open duct that went 50m under a carpark with no pull through string. A passing college worker was passing and asked what was wrong, she then disappeared and returned with a large ball of string and an actual ferret! 2 mins later pull through was along the length of the duct, with all the sparkies wondering if they could keep a ferret in the Van!

Useful things ferrets, every spark should have one, worked on three cottages knocked into one ,some 40 years ago in North Wales, sparky used a ferret to help pull through draw cords for the cables, saved lifting a lot of floorboards...

Good job, Cory, tracking all those faults down and straightening out what we in the US call a "clusterf--k." YOU should be the one teaching electricians, not the hack that last had his grubby little paws in that CU. Oh well, I guess somebody's gotta run those "get your certification in 15 minutes" courses! Extra kudos for keeping your cool throughout the job, I would have needed a few "therapy sessions" in the van where I could safely spout out a barrage of obscenities without offending the client!

These videos are brilliant, I’ve not seen the solar panel installations. The home installation and fault finding videos are brilliant. This might make you cry 😂 when I moved into this house I had to fix so many very dangerous faults, the scariest was a mains cable, running a spur to another room under the shower in the bathroom connected with a tiny connector block that I doubt anyone would want to connect speaker wire together, and there was no earth cable, I took it out and put the spur onto the ring, running new cables. A lot of this I only discovered as we replaced the shower when we refitted the bathroom. I found a few other faults when I ran Ethernet cables through the house, I discovered that the person who lived here before us was actually a chartered surveyor, the earth cable was clearly not something that he deemed necessary. The run to the garage around 20 meters away he obviously thought was fine from a spur in the study going to 5 sockets in the garage and 4 lights, this time there was an earth cable. The 2.5mm cable was set in concrete . We had the consumer unit replaced and the whole house checked for faults, fortunately I had somehow found all of the faults and the electrician. We had the driveway replaced and during this time had an electrician install proper armoured cable in trunking from the consumer unit to a consumer unit he put in, in the garage. Because of all the faults I had found and fixed he actually asked me if I wanted to be employed as an apprentice. I declined, I really don’t think I would have the patience, I would probably need a punch bag in the back of the van! 😂

I'm actually surprised that my house didn't have a borrowed neutral. I replaced my main board last summer from an old rewireable fuse one to a nice new Hager with RCBOs. I did a lovely job of it despite not officially being a sparky (I do have my BS7671 though). I was fully expecting it being a 60s built council house and the upstairs lights being run in double insulated singles, but nooope. Everything was fine! Had some installers come when I had my Tesla power wall fitted and they commented on how nice and neat the consumer unit was haha

I have an EV Pod Point charger due for installation on the 25th in my garage. I am not confident that additional CU plus the cable run of almost 15m involving traversing 3 solid 'engineering brick' (not breeze block) walls and 7m of trunking can be done by one guy in one day as envisaged. We shall see.

If that three phase supply into the property is serviceable and they had the meter reinstated they could have an awesome EV charger fitted!

Instead of those red sticks, maybe try a bendale nylon probe that'll go around corners as it's pulled through tight spaces, then used as a rope to pull through cables . Gets past a lot of odd corners with little effort .
