Intussusception is a medical condition in which a part of the intestine folds into the section immediately ahead of it.[1] It typically involves the small bowel and less commonly the large bowel.[1] Symptoms include abdominal pain which may come and go, vomiting, abdominal bloating, and bloody stool.[1] It often results in a small bowel obstruction.[1] Other complications may include peritonitis or bowel perforation.[1]

Principle cause of death is intussusception. That's a condition when a piece of the intestine folds into itself. Think of pulling the arm of a sleeve inside itself. Poor little girl was probably in alot of pain.

I find it interesting as to why they would have moved her body, unless maybe the mother and father ended up being buried somewhere else and they placed her with them, but I don’t understand why they wouldn’t use the headstone?

Okay, mystery solved and nothing nefarious! Little Glenda’s Father, Milton Glen, died in 1991 at age 77. Nannie Kate died in 2006 at age 94. (Sadly, their obits do not list any other children). Their grave is in Parkhill Cemetery with a very wide headstone that just says “Talbot/Pope”. In the ground in front of the headstone are smaller stones with the individuals’ names and dates. Glenda’s is on the far right. The photos, including a closeup of Glenda’s are clearest on Nannie Kate’s Find a Grave entry. I wondered about the Pope name, but finally figured out he was Paul Pope, who died in 1987 and was the first husband of Nannie Kate’s sister, Barbara. Barbara and Paul had a shoe store in the mall until 1990. (I guess Barbara had it by herself for 3 years). After Paul died, Barbara remarried to James Jernigan (Columbus mayor 1987-1991). She survived James and just died in January this year. But at the Talbot Grave there appears to be buried 5 people: M. W. And Nannie Kate Talbot, Nannie Kate’s sister, Barbara and her first husband Paul Pope, and little Glenda Delores. 😢. Barbara’s second husband, James Jernigan is buried in another area in Parkhill Cemetery. That may be TMI, but obviously, the Talbots and/or Popes bought a space with several plots in Parkhill on or before 1977, and at some point, put up the large stone with the just the last names on it. In 1977, Glenda’s remains were moved there and she was given the smaller stone for the new setup, so the larger, individual stone wasn’t needed. Then, over the years, her parents and aunt and uncle died, and they were interred next to Glenda. I imagine this discarded headstone may have been put there because the park belongs to the city and they didn’t know what else to do with it. I t may have been there since 1977, and as the park is abandoned, the stone has been abandoned, too!

Hi Robert: From an old medical transcriptionist, the cause of death reads "Intussusception." It is when one portion of the bowel slides inside an adjacent portion of bowel (telescoping) and causes a total blockage of the GI system. A rare and very serious disease. Love your videos.

Ooh that’s interesting, all his life my father was slightly embarrassed at a huge scar across his mid section. He had such a problem as an infant yet got surgery in the 1940’s that saved his life. So sad. This is a great channel. Love the past being preserved like this.

I had a foster pup with a periscoped intestine. Swallowed a big rock and had major surgery, days later his intestine periscoped and he had another major surgery. He was fine $1700 dollars later. :)

To what I found - they changed the tombstone to another one. This one was replaced apparently either in Riverdale Cemetery or Parkhill Cemetery where she is noted at both. The Parkhill entry on findagrave has a picture of the new stone. When a grave is moved to another cemetery the family is given an option of keeping the stone for it or get a new one. (From family experience) Riverdale Cemetery was the old one that was moved and it appears she was moved to Parkhill cemetery. Those buildings appear to be backwash buildings from a cemetery structure set. This means they used it as a supply depot for the ground crews. The stone should have been sent to Parkhill after her grave was moved. Poor kid and so young too. RIP Dolores Talbot.

Whenever I visit a particularly old cemetery, and view the grave of young child, I feel two powerful feelings. The older the grave and younger the child, the more powerful these two feelings which are a juxtaposition of sadness and joy. How can this be. I feel the sadness of a human who’s passed on long ago, never had a chance to add to the world their possible special contribution, only the brief love and joy they shared with their family, to be replaced with the sorrow of their passing. The joy I feel must come from the spirit of the child, as I acknowledge the long forgotten decades old existence of the child’s love, aspirations, life and world.

Shame the city official’s have blight buildings on public owned property out of neglect. They are part of the problem and not the solution towards beautification of their area. Put them in the SHAME hall of fame! Wouldn’t it be interesting if something fell from these building where someone got hurt and they’re were sued because of it. It will probably take that to happen before city officials move on doing something either remodeling their buildings or tearing them down while returning the land to its original form. It's ashame they let the park go. Cost more to fix it now then if it had been kept up. Sad. Then the marker for the child's grave 😪 wow. May she rest in peace. Thank you. Nov 2019 I was returning home from a trip and had horrible pain in my left side. I went to the emergency room and they did a CT Scan and confirmed kidney stone which I thought it was. However, the CT Scan revealed a small mass on my lower bowell. Cut the story short, Feb they did exploratory surgery turns out it was a malignant carciniod tumor. The next morning the surgeon came in and said he removed it and 2 feet of my intestines that were twisted. Right now i get a injection once a month and being monitored. I am doing fine. It is a slow growing tumor and might of been there 3 to 5 years. I never noticed the symptoms. Reason I posted this is I had an appointment with my regular doctor and he mentioned they saved my life. I never thought anything of that, I guess it was the twisted intestines. All found by accident

How sad to find a tomb stone in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully When she was reinterred she was given a new stone and this one having been thrown away someone thought to recycle it. Poor child (someone already explained her cause of death ) must have been a very painful death having a blocked bowel .I wonder why they still show this gravestone in find a grave. In the 1980's I knew a woman who was already around 90. She lived in Maine. Sadly, she lost 2 of her 3 children to this condition - an intestinal blockage. Surgery was difficult and not always possible. Without intervention, there was no hope for survival. An accepted treatment was to administer Mercury to the child. Dr's advised the parents of the danger - the Mercury would either clear the blockage or perforate the intestine. We can only imagine how seldom there was a good outcome. Life was very hard.

You are at Red Clay state park. When they started developing this park, a friend and I were metal detecting there. We discovered two tombstones behind a building there. They were not in the ground, just laying on the ground.

On Rhettyforfun's vlog he, and his wife went into a antique store just looking around, and seen a tombstone in there. If I can remember right they got to the bottom of it, or at least found out who she was. I forget getting to old. LOL I think you have some kind of adventure, {odd} ones every day. Clinton Park Douglasville, GA has a cabin from 1858. They used it for moonshining in the 1930's. The park was gifted by the Clinton family and there are several old structures. I spoke to a metal detector guy and he found a silver broach from the 1860's worth several hundred dollars.

It was to do with her bowels. I'm not sure why they would operate unless back then they didn't know any better. Insussupception is cause of death. Many times graves are moved or documented as moved and the headstone doesn't get moved with the body or the stone is put somewhere out of sight.

As a kid many years ago one of the other neighbor kids found a headstone unearthed and laying on its' side in the wooded area behind our street. It was not part of any known cemetery in the vicinity. I remember it was not unlike the marble cemetery markers at national cemeteries (same general size, shape and material). There was a name on the front and some letters on the back. Can't recall if there were any dates or not, but as I think about it, back in the 60's the headstone didn't look to be more than 20-30 years old. The headstone was an ongoing topic of conversation among us kids. It pretty much stayed where it was found for along time, as it was pretty heavy for six and seven year old boys to be moving around. A number of years passed and for whatever reason the headstone had disappeared from where it had originally been found. What an odd place for a tombstone to be. Wonder how long it had been there. Surely not since 1977. Looks fairly new (clean and not much weathering) given by the date it's approaching 84 years old.

The child died from complications of interception. It appears they did surgery to try to correct it and she died several days after the surgery. Intasuseption I’m not sure if it’s spelling right but it’s where the intestines accordion inside themselves very deadly

I had a comment (that is now gone?) that explained that apparently, Little Glenda’s family bought a plot in another cemetery and she was re-buried with them. They had a different type of headstone arrangement, so she had a new stone. Don’t know why the old stone would have been left where it was.

As teenager I mowed a township cemetery on a small side hill tall grass the stones were from modern times to ones made from cement or limestone some were weather damaged some were just a small rectangle 4 or 5 inches tall many were cracked and or broken some leaning or even tipped over from the ground giving away around them, all were too heavy for me to move or fix. I looked on google earth and it is still being mowed but I could not see condition of the headstones. There are several other cemeteries in the area very small and at the back of farms that have been over grown for 50 to 100 years.

That was an interesting video and how sad that someone took that head stone off a child's grave. Who ever did it should be ashamed of them self. Intense abdominal pain, a screaming child under the age of about a year, a distended abdomen, and blood-stained diarrhea, or blood per rectum, are all symptoms, but it is difficult to diagnose, unless you think of the possibility in the first place. As someone said, the child can't tell you what's wrong. Most common in the first year of life. Population growth forces Real Estate development and the Past becomes Erased. Columbus cant grow west or south and fort Benning grows at a very steady rate. There are two forgotten neglected cemeteries near Blackmon rd and Warm springs rd and Billings rd. The one is in the drive way of Flat rock sand and gravel. On the left hand side of his driveway. There once was a fence around it. His equipment over the 30 years of him being there has destroyed most of it. There is another cemetery there on Blackmon rd in the driveway to Grey Stone apartments near the round a bout at Warm Springs rd. Over next to tennis courts under big oak is the cemetery. Slaves and some distant relatives 1800's are left there. They were too old to move when Grand mother moved every other family member to parkhill. Did you know Flat Rock park was once a thriving city of it's own? unincorporated of course. Cotton gin, Gris mill, blacksmith, syrup mill producer, dairy cows, general store. It was also a stay over place for travelers. Most camped there at the bridge. In the earlier days Indians lived there. We have an article tells about a woman living in the old house and indian come up and give her fish. early days. Actually Flat Rock Park was Mr. Moffet Mill first Mill attempt. When you pull into the entrance you see rock and water. The Value is the Water!! Look immediately on the right at the water, where the creek makes an almost 90 degree right turn is the first destination was the cotton gin. There today you can see carved in the stone where the gin once stood. Now follow the water after leaving the gin it starts west and turn 90 degrees direct SOUTH and drops 150 foot down towards the bottom(near todays' play ground). At the bottom there was the grits mill. The remnants of it are now used as pic nic table. (Now, before Will White built his 60 plus acre lake up stream in the 1980's flat rock had MUCH MORE WATER FLOW!!) To operate both mills was not a water flow issue. A massive storm come thru and blew the cotton gin out and destroyed the grits mill same time. It was a devastation to the community. Moffit sold the farm and move to Alabama and built bigger and better mills on the river in the 1880's ish. We(My great grand mother) bought the farm in 1883. From there she ran a dairy farm and row cropped and owned Empire Stables on broad st. I just moved from the old house on the hill after ten years and whats cool is when a car pulls up to that old house and you watch total strangers(80 yr old) get out and glance and stare around. When I greet them I get history lesson of them living on this land as share croppers and story after story. Columbus has much hidden history and much has been erased. Only select few get old places get saved. I love history as I been a sub scriber to you long time and so many places you find your an adventure just as we the watchers and your description and knowledge or guesses are awesome! Intussusception is a condition in which one segment of intestine "telescopes" inside of another, causing an intestinal obstruction (blockage). Although intussusception can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, it usually occurs at the junction of the small and large intestines.

One good reason for burying people in cemeteries today. The private burials that used to take place just get forgotten. I guess we all do all eventually get forgotten unless you have a good family historian....and most people do not. Most of us know little about our ancestors as people once did in our countries of origin. My mother knew who her father was but her other relatives lived far away and who they were never got passed on. So we get cut off from our family history. Most Americans have little idea how they got here. In some cases that is probably a good thing!

Intussusception is a sort of bowel blockage, perhaps discovered when they did exploratory surgery?? Long time nurse here, physician handwriting is a hard thing to read but had a few years experience

My thought is it was stolen and in a car or truck that was pulled over for something else, then confiscated. The police didn't know where it belonged, so they put it in the park while it was checked out. Then probably forgotten about. I hope it gets put back where it belongs. Fascinating! That looks like a stone from Riverdale or Linwood. If the child was moved to another cemetery it’s possible they also placed a new marker. Though how it ended up at the park...crazy. Maybe someone took it home and later they or family just set it in an abandoned/little used area of the park. I found your site by coincidence and realized this is about a Columbus story. I've got one in use as my front step, face down. I found it at a tombstone factory place, in their dump area. My guess is there's a MISSPELLING on it, or a hidden crack. I turn it face up on Halloween for trick-or-treaters!

Yes, that description on the Death Certificate is very tough to read. The correct spelling for the cause of death would help. Here is what I found on the Internet with Google. Intussusception is a rare, serious disorder in which one part of the intestine slides inside another part. Intussusception (in-tuh-suh-SEP-shun) is a serious condition in which part of the intestine slides into an adjacent part of the intestine. This "telescoping" often blocks food or fluid from passing through.

Baby Glenda died from intussusception, which is where a section of the bowel telescopes into itself. It is usually corrected surgically, but can be extremely difficult to diagnose. It's most common in babies, but I know a woman who had it in her 30s and was thought to have appendicitis. Were they in for a surprise when they opened her up!

It looks like cause of death was caused by Intussusception, when your intestines turn inside out. Its rare but does happen.

Intussupusion is a condition where the bowel lining is swollen and causes the bowel to fold or telescope. I think it's a condition some children are born with, and definitely fatal if not corrected.
