George Appel was executed on 9 Aug 1928 in Ossining, New York for the killing of Lt. Charles Kemmer, NYPD on 22 Dec 1927. Lt. Kemmer observed an automobile idling in front of a restaurant in Queens, NY, and proceeded to investigate by looking in the window of the restaurant and saw a robbery in progress. He proceeded to enter the restaurant and confront the two robbers. Appel opened fire mortally wounding Lt. Kemmer. The two suspects escaped, but Lt. Kemmer was able to write down the registration number from the license plate before he collapsed. This was what caused the two robbers to be caught. The second robber was convicted of Second Degree Murder at the Trial.

I think if it is proven beyond doubt that death should be carried out immediately also. The victims don’t get any extra time. Why should the killers? Why should we pay for these people to be housed for years? We don’t have enough room in the system already. Time and rehab should be afforded to the ones that can be rehabilitated.
