I do have one error in this video that I wanted to point out. When talking about Billy the Kid my mind slipped and I said Johnson County War which is incorrect. He was involved in the Lincoln County War which was really famous because of him and the regulators. The Johnson County War was in Wyoming and something that Tom Horn was involved in. I'm sorry for the error and the confusion.

I think that Garrett got Billy that night. There were other witnesses and I get we don't have a photo but we also don't have photos of a few of the outlaws I discussed in the video. But they were hanged. Garrett also killed Tom and no one ever really discusses letting him go as well. I think history has him killed in Ft Sumner but the location of the grave within that cemetery is a whole other story.

I honestly cannot believe an 8-year-old boy, Jim Miller, deliberately murdering two grandparents. Great video Rhetty. So many violent criminals considering the population numbers of that time! It is surreal how much has changed regarding executions of murderers, armed robbers, cattle rustlers and lynchings in 150 years and less. And you would think that violent criminals would have been deterred by rampant and quickly carried out capital punishment!
@RhettyforHistory2 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to say what really happened with Jim. He could have been far worse than we will ever know but he was certainly a wolf in sheep's linen. His friends and relatives were all bad men. You're right about the executions changing. As we look at these public hangings it seems barbaric now because we aren't accustomed to it. Didn't seem to be any shortage of criminals in this era which is much like today really. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@MissHeird2 жыл бұрын
@@RhettyforHistory Actually, and I know some will not agree with me, but executions should be standard and carried out after a speedy trial has found an offender guilty of 1st degree or Capital murder. Now, we tax payers feed, educate, clothe, provide medical care and house these very dangerous predators for years. This is not right.
@tomwigal88562 жыл бұрын
Jim Miller's wife was related to the Clemmons family who were the cousins of John Wesley Hardin so if everything is to be believed that her husband killed 51 men like he said and her cousins Hardin is believed to have killed upwards of 45 men let that sink in for a minute that's almost a hundred men between two people Jim Miller is also believed to have killed Sheriff Pat Garrett now others say it was somebody else I believe it was Jim Jim Miller psychopath and probably one of the worst people who ever lived

Thomas “Blackjack” Ketchum was a cousin to my great grandmother. He and his brother Sam were not the nicest of people. It was a day of fun for the townspeople of Clayton, NM, when Blackjack was hung. My dad to me to Clayton back in the late 1980’s. While at the Eclund Hotel, my dad mentioned being related to Blackjack and we were instantly treated as celebrities LOL! We went to see where he was buried. At the time he was buried he was laid to rest just outside the cemetery as to not badly influence the fine people inside the gates😂

I have not been to his grave yet but plan to. I have visited Samuel's grave though. That's quite a heritage you have there. Thank you for watching!

I can't imagine, standing around waiting for the " guest of honor" of a necktie party meet their fate.

It would certainly be strange! It's also crazy they sold tickets to many of those necktie events. Thank you for watching Kirk!

It was very much an attraction that brought people town. Almost like a concert or comedy act of today.
