I couldn't agree more. Our politicians have forgotten why they were elected and that was to represent us. Any more it just seems to be about them and how much power they can achieve for themselves. There is a large share I them whom have never started and ran a business that employed anybody, and when they say they have created jobs for the American people well that's just a lie. Business owners create jobs and pay the wages not the government. let's face it when was the last time the government did ANYTHING EFFICENTLY, I would hazard a guess never. They tell us we voluntarily pay taxes but just try not paying taxes and see where that gets you. I think people have to get better informed and start electing people that hopefully could get our country in a better way, we've seemed to have lost our way. And it's not just John Deere it's a lot of Hugh companies doing it for cheaper labor and supposedly to keep costs down but the prices seem to keep rising anyway and the quality of many products keep falling.

I'm originally from Detroit and now retired. I've been involved and participating in unions for the first half of my life including UAW, Teamsters, Brick Layers and Allied Craftsman and others. Early on in my working life I witnessed and maintained that workers rarely or organically seek unionization. It was the companies and corporations who forced workers to seek unionization mainly based on how they treated their workers from many aspects including salaries, working hours, safety parameters, changing work rules in the middle of the ball game, etc. and doing so w/o taking the worker's well being into consideration. Worker union agendas have also drastically changed over the years and it is of my opinion that greed has evened up a bit between companies and corps. vs the workers. Over time this has resulted in what we see today by forcing companies and corps. to seeking cost cutting measures in order to compete and answer to both their global and domestic investors in this New World Order Global economy while also pushing for global control of all people in every way imaginable. Of course, it's much more complicated however, I hope I have given you all a bit of useful info to consider.
@Boxcarphilly
@Boxcarphilly 3 күн бұрын
Well said. Workers that are treated well have no reason to form a union. I worked for 30 years at the Honda of Canada Mfg. plant in Alliston, Ontario. We tried for decades to get a union in there because of the way we were treated, could give you so many examples of how this company looked after themselves and threw us a few scraps but at the end too many workers bought what the company was selling and believed them that we did not need a union. I’m retired now.

Hank as a retired Union worker this is sad news but seems to be the trend today. Over the last 25 years that I worked at my job we had to go on strike for better wages two times 15 years apart. It was very sad to be told by the ceo that we weren't worth the money that we were being paid. One senior person said at the bargaining table said , "We could be replaced by monkeys". We just wanted a cost of living increase to bring our wages up $1.00 over the course 5 years. Not huge but something. And over that time frame the CEO and Board of directors set new records every year for the bonuses they gave each other at the end of the year, The bonuses were stock and cash. Where does it end? Almost everyone of the people on the board were ceo's of and coo's of other companies, and when you checked their boards most of the same people were on their board of directors. It just doesn't seem fair. america has changed like you said , and it is not for the better for all but just a few.

I see similar stories like this every day. Workers unionize or strike and the business/company either shuts down or lays people off and move the work elsewhere. I don't know if worker demands are too high, or if companies/corporations are just being "too stingy". My feeling is that there was a time when we needed unions, but that time has passed. That's just my opinion. The other thing that kills jobs is all of the regulations. They not only kill jobs, but also make things much more expensive for the average consumer. A very good example is the requirement for DEF and the need for a motor to do a "re-gen" cycle. It not only burns more fuel needlessly, but it also increases the cost for the owner to operate his/her equipment.
@yayinternets
@yayinternets 4 күн бұрын
I think the thing that we need unions for... just look at how much the cost of goods have went up but few companies are stepping up to pay workers more. If you don't already own a home or have inheritance, you are basically stuck being a renter and poverty from here on out while big companies like JD suck all of the money from the working class to the top.

Unions were an absolute great thing when workers were falling off things they were building an dying. The workers banded together and made sure there were safety measures implemented to prevent a lot of deaths and that was a great thing. The problem is the same greed that everyone talks about these corporations having is in all of us. It didn't take long for these workers to start using this same banding together strategy to squeeze more money from these companies and here we are today.

John Deere laying off 650 people, but they employ 83,000 people that is a very small amount if you put it into perspective. The other thing they have a union involved so of course their prices are going to be much higher for that reason alone. Does TYM, Kioti or Kubota have unions. Going to Mexico you can avoid a lot of the nonsense that is happening here in the states. Look at California with what going on there.

I know how they feel. My spouse and I were caught in the Clinton administration and loss our jobs at 50 years old. Had to start another career. Now that was tough to salvage what we had. We tighten our belts and move on during Bush Administration. Then we thought it was getting better until we lost the rest of our savings late in Obama administration. Tightening harder. It got better during Trump administration. Had to retire at 70. Then Biden. He took the rest. Now at 75. My wife just passed away at 74. Clinton pull this same trick to get re-elected. Biden is pulling the wool over everyone eyes. The KJV bible teaches us to be careful of the sheep dressed in wolf’s clothing. I have to remind my self everyday that God also tell us he want put more on us than we can bare. The USA does need to be concerned about the party they elect. The democrats tare down. Cars did not always have seatbelts, airbags, or emissions systems. They do now and you can by Hondas, BMWs, etc. made/assembled in the USA. JD is making a profit/greed move and looking for a scapegoat(regulations). This is a company that charges a premium price for it's imported products. It is hard to justify paying more for a product that is not competive on the grounds of performance or quality.

agreed but one has to remember this isn't the Same Deere and Company as it was decades ago when they carried not only for their customers but also for there workers. In the 30s when the bank was failing where their employees had there savings Deere saved that Bank. Also when farmers weren't able to pay for their new equipment in the 30s Deere didn't repo them like other companies. But I reckon family members of the Deere family where still in charge

Don't blame it all on just corporate. Unions play a very large part of these American companies leaving America. It's started with Nixon going to China for becoming a trading partner and creating a world trade system that American labor is handcuffed because of the cost of labor. The same thing happened with cnh is also moving many jobs out of the USA. Unions need to start getting real with how much money is enough. Unions kill great companies with greed but they want to say that it's the companies that are greedy not them. JD has so many costs of doing business that many of these union people have no clue in what are costs that they continue to have to pay for. There's a reason why corporations need to make large profits to stay in business.

When I was buying my first tractor I swore I was going to by a JD because it was American, in my research I found that (at least at the time November/December 2010) there was only a single tractor that was actually made in America it was the JD "M" series. I couldn't find an "M" series Deere but I did price it and it was about $10k more than the "E" series deere and Kubota. I ended up going Kubota because that "E" series green tractor was obviously built to be cheaper and it showed. The Kubota I bought was about $2K more than the "E" series. BTW the bigger JDare built in Manheim, Germany.

Regardless the politics at any given moment, as you pointed out since the 1950's it does seem a growing effort to hollow out the core of what this country is that seems to have greatly accelerated over the last 30 plus years. And we need to remember in that 30 plus years both political parties have had their own moment in the sun to steer the nation and yet here we are. Time to put aside what divides us and get down to talking about what and how we move forward.

You’re right, the regulatory and tax burdens our country imposes on businesses is the death of the American manufacturer, when other countries can manufacture cheaper and with less regulation. Which is why developed countries transition from a manufacturing-based economy to a service-based economy. It’s a heartbreaking story for the 650 families but it’s a by-product of the capitalist economy that provides so much opportunity for this country.

It was rite after I bought it I started hearing about JD closings. A while ago Michlen tire plant over here in Ardmore OK is closing down and moving out of the US. That's somewhere around 600 to a 1000 Jobs gone. I'm not brand specific but I buy what I feel is good and dealer support is good. I will say my kubota said made in GA and my deere says assembled in US and the quite a few of the parts say made in China. Hank, the Ag Equipment mfg''s here in America have hung the American farmer out to dry. The "no serviceable parts" and high service fees plus the long waits for dealership service on tractors and equipment just as they are needed for purpose is intolerable when paired with the unholy mal service systems. And JD is not the only one, not at all; several use the same lobbyists to sell this trip to state legislatures and to defend the "proprietary nature" of their products- and made them selves part of the ever increasing and out of control costs in the Ag sector. Americans often forget the first national lobbyists were employed by Andrew Jackson and his neighbors in the 1820s.

30 years ago we moved to a rural location and needed a tractor.. i was adamant that we were buying JD... then i found out yanmar made the size range i was looking at of Jd.. so i went to other mfg companies. memory fails me, but some were made in europe. korea. no one made a tractor in the u.s.a so we went for value and bought a fellows tractor and group of implements. i really liked the brand i bought. and have continued with that brand (japanese) over the years.

All of the union contracts that were expensive are having the same result: manufacturers will move to cheaper countries. Sad but true.$20.00 minimum wage in California is a great example: those having to pay are simply closing and avoiding it.

Like we saw with the Snapper McDonough Ga. take over you John Deere owners, dealers had better expect a HUGH shake up in your parts availability & delivery, because these moves create HUGE LAYERED CHAOS within the organization

Great way for lobbyists from a big company to demand more regulations in the US and that same company have all their operations in a less expensive country.

My BIL was buyer/spec guy for local town DOT. He was researching new excavator. His choice came down to Hyundai & JD. An American-built (assembled?) foreign-owned or a foreign-built, american-owned. Which is "more American"? He went with Hyundai. Huge price difference.

This is all about cost cutting, and not just labor. Now they can bring in assemblies say a loader frame from China made with cheap steel and assemble the loader in Mexico and not get pounded by the tariffs as bad.

One problem is the dealers are overstocked with late model used large farm equipment. why am I going to pay $300,000 for a 3 year old sprayer with a 90 day warranty when I can spend $150,000 more for a new one with a new warranty. They don't give incentives to buy used equipment. The payment on a used sprayer is more or the same as a new one, just a shorter time. That;s what I'm seeing as a farmer.

The layoffs are not about regulations. It is greed. Look at the history of how much workers got of the pie and how much went to executives and shareholders. Workers have lost at every turn since the Reagan era. Shareholders use to be only part of the considerations for corporations but now it is all about the stock market getting more and more of the pie with executives making thousands of times more than the workers. It use to be in the 1960s that they made maybe fifty times as much.

You are not correct about the manufacturing of 60hp and less tractors being made overseas. Their compact tractors are made in the state of Georgia. I do agree that our government is making it harder and harder to do business in this country! I own John Deere tractors and they are priced high however they do have some good engineering and their parts distribution is second to none.

John Deere is relying on their name, same as Ford. You are right that JD has priced themselves out of the market, but that is just the half of it. Look at the capacities of the tractors. In the compact and subcompact world, the other brands are offering more for less. I have always been a green man, but have owned a Kioti, and a New Holland, and both tractors were better then their equivalent Deere tractor.

The only thing John Deere had going for it was that it was made in the USA. That was how they justified their outrageous pricing. Now they will just be another cheap import tractor that won't be worth a crap.

I won't voice my in depth opinion on this subject but I will share my observations. It seems that every company that was faced with striking workforce over the last couple years has decided to move manufacturing to Mexico or just simply get rid of some of the workers. John Deere is doing it, Mack/Volvo trucks is doing it, Ford has mentioned it as well. It's almost as if they don't want to have to worry about a strike that halts everything so they are going somewhere else in hopes to solve that problem. UPS had a massive world wide layoff not long after they renegotiated their contract with their workers. These companies are tired of paying unskilled labor skilled prices it seems and their solution is to move elsewhere. Who is right and who is wrong? You decide. And on the topic of politics, no politician EVER has had my best interest in mind in anything they've done!

Only John Deere smaller engines are made by Yanmar. With everybody wanting to buy cheap Chinese and Korean tractors to save a bunch of money and American workers wanting more money to build American products. As long as we keep raising fuel costs and minimum wage costs of American products will continue to go up.

Glad we didn't buy a John Deere. The cost of doing business in America is causing the off shoring of business. The cost of government is the main problem. Government must be reduced 50% if the American consumers are to survive.
