PETE ALONSO, will be a BIG act to follow. He's been part of the Mets Lineup for over 6 years & it will take time to replace him with Juan Soto coming into the lineup as well. Baseball player Chemistry takes time to master. We were close last year but Mets beginning was very difficult. Pete Alonso is still key for another shot at the Championship, the site of that is being lost or not paid attention to. So much wrong calculation does not make it for a better Baseball Team. If Mets lose Pete I think the pivot doesn't work based on these names. They lose protection for Soto and that will hurt more than some think. It can cause others to press too much and effect the lineup as a whole not just one batter. I don't see anyway they can make up for the lost power and even if they signed Bregman for 3rd base and Vientos at first you lose some defense at first and still lose the power between the two positions overall. I feel confident they can get Vlad in the end but till then they will hurt behind the Braves, Phillies. If they had a stellar starting rotation I would be more optimistic.

I think they are more worried about a higher OBP guy than Pete. I also think the rotation will be better than most think. Trust Stearns.

Yeah I agree, the only thought I have on Pete is if the blue jays can not come up with an extension for Vlade, then they pivot to Pete and hopefully we get a shot at trading for Vlade. He will sign an extension with the Mets, hopefully, if we get that far

Don't you think there's a chance that the old Alonso could return now that he would have Soto in the lineup protecting him? It's ridiculous that they have unlimited money for other teams players, but they can't offer a little bit more than market value for a home grown player who is also the best home run hitter in franchise history? I guess Strawberry's pitiful home run record will last forever, and this team will still be a 3rd place team.

his records mean nothing...it's about a team, not an individual player...Stearns is a smart baseball mind, not a fan...managing with logic and not his heart here...also 3rd place doesn't matter, as long as they get a Wild Card spot

@MetsDaily the team as it currently stands is undeniably better with Alonso than without him. And i get what you're saying, it's all business and sentimentality doesn't play into it. But then what is the point? There's nothing wrong with fans getting attached to great players. And if you think Pete Alonso hasn't been great for the mets, then i think you're just fooling yourself. As a NY Giants fan, I saw fans say something similar when Saquon Barkley left. And look at how that turned out? How are you going to feel if Pete Alonso signs with another team and has his best statistical year to date and the Mets don't even sniff the playoffs? You can say it won't happen, but i think there's a good chance that it will. Last year was a miracle and you can't expect lighting to strike twice.

I believe this is Boros doing what Boros does, trying to get a team to negotiate against itself. Pete to Toronto makes no sense to me. You move Vladdy to 3rd, have Pete at 1st and Santander in the OF; that's at least two poor defensive players, and one shifting to a position he doesn't play much. Plus, having Pete and Santander in the same lineup adds about 300 K's to your lineup. You would think Toronto would learn after the Springer deal. In the end, I still see Pete back with the Mets. It's the best fit for him, and possibly the team, at least in terms of PR.

Don't think they have interest in Bregman/long-term deal when they have all the infield prospects they have. I agree, they need another bat...my gut says they move Vientos over and sign Iglesias.

If the Mets lose Pete it's because they really don't want him... They're better without him... They also need to rid themselves of Jeff McNeil... Some of their best prospects are infielders and they are both blocking them from being in the majors get a shot at being a every day player

How many times has Alonso carried the Mets? He hits 220 with men on base campared to Juan Soto hitting 300...how many times strike out.. About 175 times.. Soto less than 100....no one in the majors knows strike zone better than Soto... I guess you like losing because Pete is not a winner... I guess you'll be rooting for whatever team he ends up with... Good because us Mets fans want to win championships we're tired of losing and losing players.. Why is everyone thinking Vientos will play first? What's wrong with him playing third? he wasn't that bad. Also you don't get it, the objective is to be the Dodgers of the East. This is a "win now" year. Far too much at stake.

Because if they move on from Pete there is nobody else on the roster who plays 1st so it's the most logical move with Acuna/Mauricio/Baty & maybe Iglesias if he's back to play 3rd. You can't really compare to the Dodgers roster...nobody is matching that roster. You just need to hope you can take them down in a best of 7.

They still have to make contact. Mets did that once all power hitters. A home run don’t mean much if no one’s on base. Mets I believe lost in first round of playoffs that year. You need players that hit singles and doubles. Just my opinion which don’t count
