What about dating Chinese men? I've dated a few Chinese men before, one pretty seriously in university, but now I'm with a Japanese guy. What gives? To be honest I date people just for who they are as a person, but there are some challenges in international dating that people should know about. See me, an American girl, walk around Chinatown speaking fluent Chinese and shocking the locals.
Below are language learning tools I have personally used for years. Direct purchases of software from these links goes to supporting this channel.

@@owoman Some people are just reluctant to learn. My mom has been living in Singapore (an English-speaking country) for 22 years and she still doesn't understand a word of English. I keep imploring her to study at least the basics but she just refuses. She thinks it's too difficult and unnecessary. Each is to their own. *shrugs*

My Dear Anming: I am an 86 year old American who was stationed in Japan 1957-1959. I lived part of the time "on the economy" in downtown Tokyo a few blocks from the Tokyo Army Hospital where my Eurasian girlfriend worked. I have spent this entire evening glued to the computer enjoying your videos. Had my circumstances been different at the time I would probably still be living there. I can not begin to tell you how much I enjoy your videos and how true your philosophy of life rings true to me. Domo arigato. May you and yours enjoy long life and much happiness.

I like the honesty and authenticity in your videos. The difference is that you are living this every moment of every day. You're giving us snapshots of your real life whereas the US based guys use a "hold my beer" approach when they visit Chinese businesses in their own hometowns. Keep it real. :)

It's the same when being praised by Japanese people. If you agree that your language skills are good then you come off as arrogant. People in China and Japan are expected to be humble and will respond in this way. Not being humble is like a big social no no.

Anming, you are always so friendly and humble with people you encounter. They think highly of you because you are speaking their language with the fluency of a native speaker and it shows your years of study and experience, so naturally it instantly brings for mutual respect between you and the other Chinese or Japanese speaker. Because of these skills & gifts, you are going to have great success in your career of international affairs between China, Japan, and the US. I think that, post-COVID, there will be a greater need for relations to improve and I think you will be a mover and a shaker one day, well beyond your success on YT. This comment is not about this video in particular but I've been inspired by you and I've used Chinese in the two establishments I'm a regular at despite being studying it for just one month. The owners of both places have seen me many times (to the point one prepares my lunch order without me saying anything and the other remembers my hair dye colour code) and their reactions have been totally positive. They seemed delighted I've started learning their language and they've offered tips and help with practice. I don't know if I would have had the courage to do it had I not been a regular, but in my case it has been a great experiment and something that will keep me motivated to learn more (because I know they will ask about my progress when I return!). Thank you for your videos!

Great job!!! Amazing, really nice to see someone, especially an English speaker take on the challenge of learning mandarin, there are only a few of them especially on this platform. Although I do have to say at 1:41, 怪不得, the 怪 sounds more like the second tone instead of fourth, and some other small details like one very common theme is switching out the fourth accent for the 2nd or 3rd, but still, super impressed, your grammar is better than mine lol.

Another interesting video. You actually showed how language bubbles can imprison people from fully experiencing the dominant culture of the country they are living in. Until you told me that it just wasn't Western issue, but an all native language groups issue, I was unaware of how prevalent it was. After you pointed that out, I realized I should have known better, because I've known people whose first language was not English, also grouped in there native language bubbles in primarily English language dominant countries. I guess it just shocked me that I met people in Asia who couldn't understand why I would want to learn an Asian language, when I could get by in my own language in Asia. It is individuals like you who choose to not get by, but actually become involved in where they live by learning to speak dominant language. Your channel is so unique in that you just don't show that you can learn to speak a second or third language, but that it enriches your experiences and changes your understanding of the both culture and individual people, when you can converse in their language. You don't sugar coat the difficulties and work that is required to learn a second language, but then you demonstrate what is possible once you have put in the work. Thanks for the inspiration. I eagerly await your next video.

That's right! The stereotype is that Western people come to Japan and get caught in language bubbles, but actually it happens to people from all different countries. It's easier to be comfortable while surrounded by familiar people and languages.

So now i am watching this and i will say you really did went out with a big bang.😄😄I think you picked the right timing 2 switch new directions.😆😆Jan-Jun is one heck of the long period making same theme while still sustaining high umph all the way. Dang that's some good Chinese...lol. I really enjoyed the street and building shots and the dragon looked great. I think a collaboration would boost your channel and garner greater exposure, so why not have a "kick at the can". Interesting side note, whilst watching your video up pops and ad for italki, does this mean you have hit the big times? Lol. As always, stay safe and wash your hands.

I've really enjoyed watching your videos,so many thanks for them, and keep them coming. I have a question for you. I was married to an Indonesian woman for 20 years and learnt Bahasa Indonesian quickly. Now I am in a relationship with a Thai woman and wish to learn Thai, but am finding it a Hell of a lot trickier than Indonesian,as it's extremely tonal. Have you got any recommendations for certain language courses or books that make this particular problem easier? I understand that the best way to learn is to talk with native speakers, but am in the UK(a small town with no Thai's),and only spend about 4 months of the year in Thailand at the moment. Thank you

Thai is a tonal language like Chinese. Pronunciation is very important and mistakes can change the meaning of words. I put links to a 7-day audio lesson software in the video description. Thai is included. Check it out.

I love ❤️ the Chinese lady stating that the Japanese can’t express themselves lol 😂. The fact that thy are so proud of her distinct home and surrounding area was fantastic as she went on to tell you that’s “why” your Chinese language skills were 👌🏽❤️👏🏽. I’m praying 🙏🏽 about the flooding, earthquakes and other events that maybe the media has negatively portrayed for whatever reason. God Bless you and Remain cautious of TIGER 🐅 Mommas! Love your videos, only complaint that I have is I don't speak Japanese or Chinese. So I rely heavily on the sub titles. Yours is in white which is good but the person that you are talking to is in green. Sometimes it blends with the background which makes it hard to read. Can you use a bright or fluorescent green or maybe yellow so it can be easier to follow what they are saying to you. Just a thought... keep up the great vids...

Well both Chinese and Japanese are one of the harder languages in the world to learn, so it's no wonder their respective citizens would be impressed that a foreigner can speak fluently, it proves to them that you've put a lot of effort into learning it. English on the other hand is universal and one of the easiest language to learn, so even if you're from a non-English speaking country nobody really cares if your fluency is perfect or not in those English speaking countries Still, those are some very good pronunciations, respect

Curious, as an English speaker did you find Mandarin or Japanese harder to learn? Or is it hard to answer since you knew a lot of the Chinese characters in Japanese from your knowledge of Mandarin? I'd kill to understand Mandarin but I'm currently self-studying Japanese and that's plenty hard already. Maybe one day if I ever get good at JP I'll give Mandarin a shot though. Must have taken forever to learn to pick out the tones in Mandarin.
