Ya my office parties were exactly as you described including the guilt trips and feeling like it would hurt your career if you didn't go. 2 companies I worked for were like this and you had to pay, it was expensive, drinks weren't even included (just the crappy hotel style meal and a raffle). HATED THEM ... and eventually I didn't care about the backlash and stopped going as well.

I just got a huge nostalgia wave from the Mario on thumbnail. I remember my sibling printing out one of those Nintendo fold up paper ornaments and it had that Mario on it. The wiiu may have been Nintendo’s little failure, but that era sure gave me a lot of good memories

I work for a kinda big company and the local office just made the event 2 parts: mingle pre party with snacks and drinks after ending work at 17:00 then 1 hour later we moved to a hotel restaurant for the christmas food, yummy and fancy. Glad we avoided weird activities.

oof, those holiday party stories... We had a murder mystery at our company party one year too. At one point one of the actors sat on someone's lap, but thankfully for all concerned it didn't go further than that.

Not a Christmas party, but my brother went to a Halloween Themed wedding, and him and his partner dressed up in full zombie make up. Arriving late they shuffled into the venue, and to their horror realized the bride and groom were the only one dressed up. They joined the rest of the guests, and were glad their zombie makeup hid their embarrassment.

Kit I played through Jedi Survivor without having an issue with what I should do or having to look up a solution. Maybe its just me and purposely not trying to rush through the story.

TBH i it was advertised as a murder mystery party, I'd be all for giving it a shot because you're now in that mindset of "Alright let's have some drinks, some snacks and mingle while figuring out it was "Mustard with the rope in the Observatory." Because it's always Mustard with the rope in the Observatory.

Yeah I legitimately just don't care about mingling too much with coworkers outside of work stuff. I've tried to bring myself to try, but it just never works. I just. Don't. Care. I also don't care about making small talk and talking about "little Bobby" just turning 8 months old. It's incredibly exhausting. Sometimes I wonder if the world is just out to get us introverts. Good on you Krysta for holding the line.

It's a Nintendo Minute episode so Nintendo took it off their channel, but you might be able to find it if you poke around!

Yes... Alan Wake 2 looks amazing... I've been watching Alanah Pearce stream this game for a bit in the past month... I know the music section she is referring to in the game. This game is very arty and stylish and does things very unexpected. I wouldn't be upset at all if this game won GOTY over say TOTK or Mario. The live action and in-game graphics blended so well, sometimes you didn't know which was what for a moment.

Those were some crazy holiday company party stories lol I hope you'll get to go to the Natsume party again Oh, so you guys are playing MHNow too? Ive been enjoying it since it launched. its my 1st game from Niantic in this location based style (Im not a pokemon fan) but im a big MH fan. I have a coworker who also plays & we've teamed up a few times during breaks (sometimes NOT during breaks lol) to take out some monsters. multiplayer works very well!

@Kit & Krysta one of the questions mentioned the Nintendo Store in NY & it reminded me of my own trip there. I was inspired by your early trip sometime last year (I think). I live in CT which is fairly close so on my birthday this year (Nov.16....just like Miyamoto Shigeru!) I took a train over to NY to visit the store! I had a great time...when I finally got to the store. I was walking around lost for nearly 1 1/2 hours 😅 but it was amazing! I grabbed everything I want & ended up spending a ton of money 💸💸💸 lol

I won't lie, I was blinded by the Star Wars IP and all the cool fun stuff in Jedi Survivor, that I truly ignored some of the level design and a couple puzzles. I acknowledged their existence, but I'm guilty of *really trying* to push that flaw out of the way.

I definitely don't want to pretend the level or puzzle design in Survivor is perfect, and neither was Fallen Order. But I never got lost going in a straight line the way some people do. I think maybe it's because I'm a habitual map-checker, where I'll hit the map button every so many steps even if I'm sure I know where I am because I hate missing things. Dead ends almost always mean a collectible or upgrade, and finding the right way to go rarely takes more than a minute or two of paying attention and looking around. I really think streamlining the design in the way Kit implied would make the game less interesting.

in my experience all company parties are somehow awkward :D. I at least had so many in so many different companies... or maybe it's exclusive to video game companies I don't know :D

The problem is HR is typically responsible for most corporate parties when there are very capable event managers in marketing that they should be allowed to partner with. Unfortunately budget and time is an expense most companies aren’t thrilled to over utilize at the tail end of the calendar year.😕

Thank you, Krysta, for saying what I'd imagine a comfortable 98% of us wanna say but never have a chance - nobody gives a flying Fwoosh about their coworkers, and that zero-percent level of caring dips down into the negatives about their kids. And I say this as a father who tries not to bring up my kid unless I'm asked - because nobody. Cares. Family cares. Friends care. Coworkers don't. Thank you, haha.

Corporate holiday parties should honestly just be a vote about 2 months prior. Maybe limited based on tenure (so new employees don’t vote and then quit before it happens). That way you can see if anyone actually wants it, and if not, substitute with a (larger) bonus instead or something. Because you’re not really relaxing at those parties. It’s basically just an office meeting but with food. So all the same tension carries over.

Office Parties are extremely cringey... not like what you see on sitcoms where people are having raunchy activities happening left and right when the alcohol is loose... it's pretty cliquey and boring most of the time.

I assume she was playing with the lights on, since she was playing next to her dog and also looked up some of the scariest parts ahead of time. So if you get freaked out easily it might be too much, but you could also just try doing what she did.

What about Nintendo giving games to a channel that barely gets views these days? I won't say what channel but a channel still gets free games from Nintendo but this channel rarely posts and has low viewership. Is that even helpful to the company or just an ongoing relationship?
