I feel so much sympathy for horse and guard. It annoys me to see all the visitors touching the horses and standing so close. It is obviously distressing to them, how would the visitors like everyone approaching them and poking them in the face. Something should be put in place for visitors to see but not access the horse and guards.

That horse did not ‘run away”. He walked aways. I have been on actual “runaway horse” twice when I was in my 20’s. Both times on a 1 mile track. Trust me, this was nothing…. And they got control fast by “squaw reigning” the horse. That means simply pulling out and back on one side of the bridle which effectives screws the horses head and neck back towards you. With the true runaway, it takes allot more than trying that!

I've said it before...I think these gormless tourists should have a word of warning in their travel papers...these guards and horses are NOT Disney characters. They are serious genuine guards of the royal palaces, and are not to be messed about with, and laughed at. It makes me furious to see how disrespectful they are of our ancient traditions!! It puzzles me why all those hands try to touch te horses face all at once. Many jerk away if it moves, obviously fearful, but then they try to touch it or even just tap it again. If they only knew how dangerous it is to stand in front of a horse, fussing around it's head etc. One misjudged moment and they could end up knocked over by a sudden move. They are lucky the horses are so very well trained. As happens even here, they are not totaly controlled, as a horse does have a mind of it's own.

I could only pick out a little of the conversation of the Sgt Major (I think) and the soldier. At the end I think he said something is "He only has a few minutes left" to the female soldier and "If you have any other issues head straight to the back" to the one on horse back. People see a horse now a day as a novelty and not 1,000 pounds of muscle that will run right through you if it bolts.

They seem to think that the horses here aren't like real horses and that they are trained to behave just for them. I am a WW2 baby brought up with Daily horse driven Delivery vehicles. Coalman, Milkman etc and Shire horses were used for heavy Brewery deliveries. These working horses got priority, we always gave way to them. People are stupid crowding these beautiful animals and don’t realise if one kicks off it could kill them with one kick. And it would NOT be the horses fault. The notices👀on the walls should be heeded.

There are always extra staff ( usually in camo kit) whenever horses are on duty. A farrier and a "Corporal of Horse" are also available and do regular visits to the guards on duty.
