So I did a very similar swap on a 99 regular cab short box ranger in 2013. I put a build SOHC 4.6 in it with a M5OD trans and an 8.8 with 4.10's and a locker! It was a fun truck! It also ran up ALOT of credit card debt and I had to sell it 🙁 I documented the whole build on The ranger station forum!

Exactly. I've removed ac systems from cars in the past. Never gave it a moments notice about letting the freon out. Didn't even know it was a bad thing. Oh well. I have a 98 V-6 Ranger that the ac hasn't worked on in years. Don't care as I'm more of a windows down driver, even in my 04 Lightning and 07 Mustang. Probably gonna yank that ac system out and toss it in the trash. I don't even know if it has any freon in it at this point, Hasn't worked since like 08 or 09.

Easiest V8 swap on these trucks is a 96-01 Explorer 5.0, it is way smaller than the big DOHC 4.6. The Explorer is also a Ranger-based vehicle, so the radiator, wiring harness, transmission and other parts require no mods and bolt directly in, and you don't have to remove your heater box or mess with your firewall. I was even able to reuse my stock Ranger driveshaft on my V8 swap - I have videos on my profile of it, all Ford OEM parts. It is not as powerful as the big DOHC 4.6, but it has a decent aftermarket and fits well.

How'd your swap turn out? I just picked up a '93 Ranger w/ only 2400 original miles on it. But back in '94 the original owner took it somewhere to have it fully converted to electric. No engine, no fuel system. It's got some sort of electric motor in the front that is attached to the factory 5spd. It's all done professionally even down to an air compressor for the power brakes. But for the cost of 20 new batteries I'm thinking engine swap would be potentially easier & cheaper.

When you’re finish what you’ll have in a sense is something like a regular cab version of an Explorer Sport Trac. The only problem I have with a swap like this is the fact that you had to lose the air condition and hopefully it'll still have heat in it too. I'm pretty sure that you can put air back in it, with using an aftermarket under the dash unit but if it doesn't bother you it don't bother me cuz it ain't mine but I can tell you guys it looks good. So sad a Marauder is off the road...but that all aluminum DOHC 4.6 will make that truck move. The 03-04 Marauder 4.6 is the same as the 03-04 Mach1. Personally I believe those 4.6s have a bit more that the advertised 305/310 hp.

The radiator will need to be replaced with one designed for a V8, especially if the V8 replaced a 4-banger, but I like it. There are many stories about squeezing a 305 V8 into a Chevy Blazer or S10 as well. Tree-huggers can weep, muahahaha!!!!

Definitely easier to get up and running with a Windsor. 302 fits in without any mods whatsoever and a 351 Windsor only requires you to dent the heater box and run a custom exhaust. I guess this build is for the unique factor.

What confuses me is why they went with a 32v 4.6? The modular Ford's ( 4.6 & 5.4) blocks and cylinder heads have the same external measurements. The 5.4 makes 330 hp and almost the same in torque. Heck you can use 4.6 heads on a 5.4 in some applications. You can even buy some adapters off Amazon for fifty bucks that allow you to use any pi 4.6 intake on a 5.4.....there are about 6.9 wahzillion 2v 5.4 s out there . That u joint tool should not be used with most aluminum shafts and yolks...just a heads up unless you have a Tig welder or are skilled with JB weld😎😂🤣
@charliedee9276
@charliedee9276 4 жыл бұрын
MIght be because the 5.4 is so much taller than the 4.6. Even with the 4.6 intake it wouldn't fit under the hood most likely.

Why would they cut it right there, the other side of the drive shaft you can cut the welds on the yoke and pull it out the cut. Hammer yoke back in . The yoke welds to driveshaft tube. Much safer
