I currently use a Neotec 2 and because I care about my noggin I'll probably buy one of these when it's time to replace the 2, although there's two reasons why I might not... The two things that are really dissapointing me on first review are: Not consciously addressing the crack position seems unbelievable considering the amount of feedback in this area. From my perspective it's the worst feature of the 2. The other disappointment is the comns system they've chosen, or at least, the lack of options. I'm sure I am not alone in omly needing satnav, radio/ music and calls, so the pricey features of mesh and even top spec branded speakers are wasted. The cost of the mesh sytsem, and lack of compatibility with the Slr2 is enough to make me seriously consider other lids. Great review as always Motolegends; thanks.

A useful review. Very happy with my Neotec 2, but good to know what might be the replacement when I need it. Some nifty small improvements alongside the safety increase. A 5% cost increase given the recent inflation situation isn’t bad at all.

I was anxious to hear about this new strap. I still rock my Neotec (1) from 2015. Bought the Neotec 2 last year but had to return it after 2 or 3 rides because that strap and latch always felt like it was choking me. Might give this one a try before I look for a new modular helmet elsewhere.

I do need a new flip to replace my old very much loved, but crash tested, Neotec 2: Safety - My Neo2 performed superbly in a crash so no complaints on the old one. Safer is always better of course. Soundproofing - Always nice to see improvements although I was very happy with the Neo2. It will be interesting to see/hear how much quieter. Sun visor - I was happy with the Neo2 so this isn't a big deal for me. Maybe it was only an issue on the larger sizes? Vents - Extra stages for the vent is always good. But I was very happy with the Neo2 venting (it was better than my GT Air 2). Chin strap - This does look a big improvement although I did get used to the strap on the Neo2 after a while. Visor lock - I open and close the visor a lot at traffic lights. So an annoying front opening, where I could hit the vent button could drive me nuts. Comms - I'm betting this is a very expensive option. It is likely to push the combined cost of a Neo3 and comms out of my range. Given the last two downsides of the Neo3 (high cost when new comms added and a potentially annoying visor opening) then a Neo2, while there are still a few around, combined with a soon likely to be discounted Sena SRL2 comms may be the way to go. I guess the issue here is the Neo2 was just so good to start with.

Thanks for sharing your expertise Chris. We are currently riding to Austria with our Neotec 2s and, having worn different makes for the past 6 months, we discussed at length just how comparatively quite and comfortable the Shoei lids are, especially on longer rides. My only requirement for the Neotec 3 was that crack visor position and I’ll take any further improvements to noise reduction and comfort I can get. So I’m a little bit unsure where we are on the visor. I’ll have to come in and discuss this with you.

Few months back I bought the Schuberth C5 vs the Shoei Neotec 2. Had some issues with face shield closure on the Schuberth and opening the top vet is difficult. Finding the slide for the sunglass shade is difficult to. I decided to but the Shoei Neotech 2 and am so glad I did. Much better quality and ease of use and feels more aerodynamic. If I was to score the Neotec 2 at 9.8 on scale of 10, I would have to score the Schuberth C5 at around 8.

I bought my Shoei Neotec 3 and Sena coms from Motolegends a couple or maybe 3 months ago the fit was good as standard in size large and the Neotec 3 has several small improvements over my Neotec 2 Yesterday I went back for the Fitting service which wasn't available at the time of purchasing I had to have a thiner scull cap pad which I had to paid for as I had been using the original for a while but would have wanted to keep it as it was no use to anyone else being second hand In my Neotec 2, I fitted a thicker scull cap as the helmet sat too low over my eyebrows for my liking The new fit with the extra pads feels quite different from the original fit. It feels like there's is more pressure on my forehead, but it's early days, so will take a bit of time to bed in I'm not sure about having to pay over £90 to get a better fit but will, see how it goes and if it's worth the extra cost

I have upgraded from Neotec 1 to 3. N3 is much much more quiet than N1. Unfortunately that is the only positive aspect I found. The redesigned front chin vent on N3 is much worse than the one on N1 and blows almost no air inside the helmet. The first locked position of visor on N3 is much higher than on N1. So in attempt to compensate for ineffective front chin vent when you open the visor you get too much air. N1 was far superior with that respect. So although N3 is very quiet in comparison to N1 , I am not really satisfied with N3 ….

Looks good but the lack of weight reduction compared to the competition is poor. It's a heavy helmet. I think a few people will be disappointed by that. On another note, I'm curious why Motolegends completely ignores HJC helmets?
@Motolegends Жыл бұрын
We are quite selective about the helmets we offer. I am sure HJC make some nice lids, but as they don’t offer a facility to fit different liners and cheekpads. This is an off-the-shelf brand that we can add nothing to, so you might as well go to one of the chains. Not sure the comments about weight make much sense. A good-quality flip, pre-wired for comms., and with things like a drop-down sun visor is never going to be the lightest helmet, but it would be nigh on impossible to go to 22-06 from 22-05, and save weight! I have a Schuberth C3 Pro and a Shoei NEOTEC II both with their respective integrated Comms systems. I was surprised to hear you say hear Shoei are the best. I suppose it comes down to head shape and other preferences but, though older, Schuberth is the better helmet in a number of ways. It's quieter; it's easier for me to use with glasses; It's easier to operate the sun visor; it's easier to open the visor (I note this is changed for the NEOTEC III); it's easier to remove both visors; like the NEOTEC II it has an integrated Comms system which in some ways is better and also worse than the Sena SRL_Mesh; few, if any, critters get in via the top air vent (I had to retro-fit a fine mesh on my NEOTEC II to stop this). The list goes on... I haven't tried the Schuberth C5 yet but will be buying on soon as, for me, the Schuberth is a better "lid".
@Motolegends Жыл бұрын
We can make much more of a difference with the liners in the Shoei than we can with the Schuberth. The C5 only comes in two shell sizes, which is not what you’d expect of a premium brand, the main issue being the huge gulf between the L and XL sizes. Having fitted hundreds of both on customers, the Shoei is still the better-made and designed helmet. Some will prefer the Schuberth, but overall the Shoei is the more complete package, in our view. @Motolegends Жыл бұрын
ECE 22-06 places so many new demands on a helmet that one can be sure that the Neotec 3 will be more protective than the Neotec 2. Now Shoei always tests to higher than the statutory standard, and that applies equally to 22-06. So yes, the new helmet is more protective. I can’t quite understand where this question is coming from, and why anyone would challenge this assertion. And as there are tests under 22-06 that weren’t even a consideration under 22-05, then yes the new helmet will be a safer one. Perhaps not on every dimension, but overall certainly so. CP

I am an extremely happy customer of Motolegends. Yes of course they want to sell product, otherwise they would go out of business. But from my dealings with them face to face, including Chris, I really do believe they want to give good service. When I went in to buy a Neotec 2 they suggested trying cheaper products which seemed to meet my needs, before we came back around to the Neotec which I did buy. Almost a year later they changed the pads in it for free because I wasn't quite happy. I once spent about an hour with one of their sales ladies trying to find the right jacket for my very petite daughter before agreeing none were right for her. They could have just sold us the nearest fitting jacket to get a sale but they didn't. They also try to work with manufacturers to make suggestions on how to improve products. They are a great company that does try to focus on customer service, which is a rare thing nowadays. It is a real shame that they no longer open at weekends though.

Always interesting to hear the views of somebody who bases his opinions on a sample of one. You may find your Neotec quiet, but as you can read from some of the comments here not everybody does. I also find it bizarre that anybody should be dismissive of a company’s attempt to improve the quality of its products. Do you really think it’s impossible to make this helmet quieter? And what makes you think that you are the definitive arbiter on whether a helmet is quiet enough? As far as the locking mechanism is concerned, one in the centre is better than one the side for the reasons I outlined. And having used the same mechanism on the NXR, there’s no need to put your hand in front of the visor. The button is below it. The other issue with a left-hand lift mechanism is that if you’re in town using the clutch, you can’t open the visor so readily. A centre lift means that you can choose either hand. Overall, I am left with the view that you have absolutely nothing insightful or even interesting to contribute to the matter. It’s as though you think the the world should come to a standstill because you are happy with your Neotec 2. It is oft cited that opinions are sometimes better held than expressed, and given the unsubstantiated nature of yours, I feel this might be wise counsel for you. As for your rudeness, it adds little; and again paints you as someone prepared to express unsolicited views based on little more than a vanity, tinged with a dose of unpleasantness. CP

Can’t stand kevlar jeans. But can substantiate with test results that a modern jean made with a high-tech UHMWPE fibre can be way more abrasion resistant than leather. Put simply, the arse of a cow hasn’t changed in 500 years. Is it too difficult to accept that in a world where we travel around the universe, and build bridges a mile long, that we have not created something stronger than the arse of a cow? You really need to get out more! CP.
