After being in the horse business for over 50 years, I enjoy watching you work. You keep the integrity of the hoof by keeping the bar as much as possible. And I appreciate that so much. So many farriers REMOVE THE BAR COMPLETELY!! And I find that that weakens the integrity of the hoof so much. So thank you so much for keeping that bar in place!! The farrier I use does the same thing. He says, If God didn't want it there he wouldn't have put it there!! I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. He's so good when it comes time to rasp my foals feet for the fist time as well. I've done the work of getting them to stand and have their feet being able to be lifted, picked out, and lightly tapped with the back of a brush, and he appreciates all that work, because the foals stand stock still when it comes time for them to have their feet rasped for the first time before they go home with their mothers to their home farms. Where their owners continue to do what I've started with them. When they come back to me 3 or 4 years later to be backed, even the colts, now stallions, are not nippy, don't show any stallion like behaviors at all. I can even walk them past a mare in full blown season and they don't go rank in me, because of all this initial groundwork and foundation training I'm putting into them right now. They know me and remember me. And if they do start to act up, I'll just back them up untlor make them yolieldbtheir hindquarters until they are asking for a stop. Then we start forwards again. It only takes them one or two times acting up to realize whose in charge, and it isn't them!! But I get to the feet. Groundwork and foundation work are your friend when they are youngsters. And it starts when they are foals. And standing for the farrier is top on my list for that. Best Regards from a Retired Paramedic, a S&R Dog and Handler Team Trainer and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦🇺🇲

You're the second person I've seen one KZbin using a dog kong on his hoof stand lol Always awesome to come across farriers in my area/region. I'm in the boat of Washington mud and abscesses putting a cramp in my stallion riding/conditioning for Endurance plans lol Thankfully, we're in one of the sound times, but I just *know* he's going to pop one up sooner or later. Typical Thoroughbred feet and his feet were neglected when I got him from his owner/breeder last year. We're going barefoot usually, but my stallion will likely be getting shod in front with Blue Pegasos shoes and we'll see how he goes in them. My main riding mare is patient with boots and fits them well, and has great feet for a Thoroughbred so she likely won't ever get a shoe nailed on lol You gained an instant sub and like ^^ Great work and I enjoyed hearing the snippet of backstory on the horse and how his feet have improved (my mare has a pancake foot on her left front and normal right front hoof, but great feet overall for a Thoroughbred.) over six years. The music was a bit distracting and loud (also not my personal tastes, but everyone's musical tastes vary so that's a me problem, not a you problem lol)

Hey thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it! I can’t say I was the original person that thought of the kong dog toy haha, I got the idea from a friend of mine 🙂
@BrienaSkysong12 жыл бұрын
@@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow I like to amuse myself that the story behind the original idea is some dog dropped his kong next to the hoof stand during the clinching process and the lightbulb went off.

This is so interesting, what were the drilled holes for?
@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow2 жыл бұрын
The rider has studs that they are able to screw in and out when needed for added traction when competing on slick grass/dirt.

Do you think when the shoe covers over the back of the frog , it hinders the hoof from cleaning out naturally , it helps lock in debris ??!
@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow2 жыл бұрын
Yes. And makes it harder for the owner to pick out the feet if the shoe is hanging over the commisure (between the heel and the frog).

I really like how you work - every move is calculated, fast and precise. A true tradesman. But this is the first time I’ve seen anyone drill and tap those shoes - what’s that for?
@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow Жыл бұрын
The holes are drill and tapped so that the rider can screw in studs to the bottom of the shoe when they’re out jumping (commonly for the “Eventing” discipline) on surfaces where they need more traction. It’s helpful so the horse doesn’t have to wear the studs all the time and can be taken out when finished showing.

@@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershow Thank you for the reply, and the explanation. Reminds me of when I was a kid and there was old shoes laying around off draft horses, and they had a big cleat coming off the toe and another off each heel of the shoe.

Yeah it's more difficult to be precise and accurate holding tools with gloves on, as well as, if you're trying to hold a nail to be driven in the foot. I will wear gloves if we get snow but that is very rare.
