Sports is often a nice reprieve from unfortunate things going on around people. I'm not directly affected by the fires, thankfully, but the ash and air quality haven't been treating me well, even while remaining mostly indoors. Just hope the winds calm down, for everyone's sake out there. Not to downplay the property damages, but my first thoughts are those with real respiratory issues and those at health risk from the smoke. I know the weather is bound to change over the rest of the week, but it truly can't happen soon enough.

I challenge the Dodgers staff to ensure that Ohtani never gets injured again. This must be done. Don’t let him steal another base again. At least not in the postseason. The image of him writhing on the ground in the World Series is something I NEVER WANT TO SEE AGAIN.

If Sasaki goes to Padres, it's only because he feels pressured/guilted to be with Darvish

I’m done with Roki, If he comes great if he doesn’t great. It irritates me a little that he is making an entire international free agent class of hundreds wait around and stress over what decision he makes. And he doesn’t even have the courtesy to get it done by the 15th, but rather wait as long as possible. He isn’t even that good, Hiroto is a year younger than Roki and had an ERA nearly half of what Roki had. He is a low spin rate hard thrower, which looks great in person (Bobby Miller) but doesnt on paper (Bobby Miller)

I'm not sure what you expect Roki to do. The rules say he can't sign until the 15th.

@ He could announce what team he is signing with. Like everybody else in the class has done. Or he could sign on the 15th. He has made it clear he will not even announce his decision until at least the 20th. Which means every international free agent has to wait on Roki to see if their team will have the funds to sign them or if they are going to have to try to find a new deal.

I guess I just don't see the problem. Whatever team Sasaki signs with is going to have to get creative with other players they've agreed with, most likely pushing them back a year. That will be true whether he announces it today or on the 23rd. And any team that doesn't get Sasaki will sign their committed players, again regardless of when he makes his decision. If there are teams out there with bonus pool space who might be interested in signing some of the players who get bumped, that will still be just as true on the 23rd as it is right now. Roki has the right to take his time making his decision, and the only "harm" done is some people having to wait a week to do whatever thing they were going to have to do anyway.

@ Almost all of the international free agents that the Padres and Dodgers agreed to terms with have stripped those teams from their profiles. If the Dodgers and Padres don’t get Roki they aren’t getting much else. Those players are not waiting on the Dodgers Padres they’re looking elsewhere right now. And they will likely have to take much less than they originally thought they were getting

Whichever team doesn't get Roki will get the players that had originally agreed with, just a few days later. The team that DOES get Roki will either get those same players next year or they'll get Roki, and they'll be happy either way. None of that is affected by the timing - it would all be true if Roki had announced his choice a week or three ago.
