you probably already do it or realize it, but I find its a lot easier to disassemble and reassemble the 1911 if you engage the safety when your not actively trying to manipulate the slide. Just keeps you from having to hold it in place like I noticed at the end of the reassembly portion. Great video by the way, very informative, clearly visible, and well paced. I see a lot of videos on maintenance and parts instillations where individual will have an out of focus camera, block part or most of the work there trying to show, or rush through the work so fast its hard to follow along, sometimes all three! so great video lol

I installed the shok buff in my Colt. I’m new to 1911’s, I had no idea the slide normally beats the frame to death.

Ok. A couple of things to talk about: First! Wear safety glasses. If you don't, that recoil spring can generate enough force to stick that guide rod plug into your ceiling...imagine what it can do to your eye. The plastic bushing wrench is a good idea because it makes the job easier and helps you turn the bushing and control the plug so it doesn't go flying. Second, these shok-buffs will only last if your recoil spring is the proper weight for the loads you are shooting. If it's too light of a spring, it will beat the crap out of that shok-buff and destroy it (will break into pieces and jam your gun up). SO, I would NEVER use those shok-buffs in a gun that I use for self defense! The LAST thing you need is a failure when your life is on the line! Just my opinions, you do with this info as you see fit. Only trying to help.

Almost bought the colt exactly like that but they also had a springfield mc operator and the extra checkering and honestly a little better fit together some me
@GunsWithGage5 жыл бұрын
I'd choose the operator for sure. Any of the Springer 1911's are good

Thank you for the video. I have a question, when removing the full length guide rod ,do you have to remove the spring first? I can't get my guide rod out with the spring attached, rod seems too long to get past the barrel link. Thank you. Fred

I don’t waste my time with buffs. I use a 18.5lb chrome silicone recoil spring. Secondly I use the GI recoil system so I can break gun down no matter where I am without tools.

You can break the full length rod down without tools that’s not an issue.

The Part number is 64G. I am a dealer for RSR, so i order from them. But you can get the kit straight from wilson combat!

I just bought that same gun. And am wanting to install these. How is reliability for you?

Will that system work for any 1911 or just the Wilson Combat?
@GunsWithGage5 жыл бұрын
Yes it will work on any 5inch 1911!

GunsWithGage Ok so I’ve always liked the looks of the 1911. I like the mechanics of it and all the history and patriotism as well. But even though I have a huge gun collection I don’t own a 1911. In fact I’ve never even shot one. Crazy huh? Anyway I’ve always wondered what’s the big deal. They are expensive, they are single stack, they are an old design and probably a terrible choice for concealed carry. So why are so many addicted to these things. What gives?

@@MaxHeadspace9mm Haha This is me too ^. Being in the business that I was in, I was able to handle, and fire all kinds of firearms. I don't understand. I bought a Sig tacops carry model 1911 for personal use, and just couldn't keep it. I put 880rds through it, and sold it. Sig is cream of the crop for production 1911's, but I don't understand the appeal. I'll stick with my polymer wonderguns, wheel guns, and oddities.

GageFixesEverything Ok. So it’s the iconic appeal to round out a collection🤔. I still may get one someday. It’s just never been a huge priority because I’m really motivated by using a gun. Some of my favorite guns are beat up and well worn in but very functional and not fussy. Like my Glocks. Most I got used, some well used as police turn ins. I like a gun with a story.

does the shock buffer really work, or just a gimmick? thanks
@GunsWithGage4 жыл бұрын
It actually works. I would recommend it for sure
@confederatejeb4 жыл бұрын
from my experience using them in a sig 1911 they are junk. Only last a hundred or so rounds before they are junked and start to cause malfunctions. Just my experience.

@@GunsWithGage It's a great carbon damn that will build up crazy fast if not maintained/cleaned after every single use. I would compare it to buying one of them used dogs that was beaten... sure it makes you feel better but without constant attention expect it to be expensive and bring more problems then it's worth.
@thebigguy55383 жыл бұрын
@@confederatejeb I tried one in my my Sig 1911 Target and it would prevent the slide from locking to the rear. I had to ditch the shock buffer.
