@Surgemaster20128 жыл бұрын
I 100 % agree with this. I was thinking the exact same thing to people defending Paper Mario Color Splash with rose covered glasses saying "You're not giving it a chance, you're being whiners etc" when the main point us Paper Mario and Metroid fans have isn't because of the change or "not giving" anything a chance, but its because they're taking away what works in exchange for turning the series into experimental gimmick testers. It's okay to have an optimistic approach, but when it comes at the expense of not looking at what is wrong and just assuming people are "spoiled whiners" then I'm sorry it doesn't cut it there. Paper Mario isn't even an RPG series anymore. What got me is when the announcer stated "Paper Mario is an Action/Adventure Genre" according to this in their own logic they never considered this series an RPG, they basically told us the fans in their own words "Hey this series has no identity anymore, we're just going to use it to test our latest gimmick" If a series has identity loss to the point where even the fans are hurt. The what does that say? People like to assume we're whining based on a short trailer, when honestly what the trailer provides is exactly what the game itself is given us. An unneeded identity loss. What kind of RPG series doesn't have Exp? Plus the "partners" we are given aren't even a legit partner but more of an object related to the main gimmick themed used. Rather than 1/4th of an entire gameplay style being used to make up the series main themed mechanic like 64 and TTYD. It's like all of a sudden Nintendo drops the ball and says "Oh by the way Kirby is a Hack N Slash now" They also jump to conclusions assuming Nintendo is going to do what with these games. Which is again just their logic clouded by rose covered glasses. Again they can have a positive approach and are allowed to still like them, by they are failing to understand the core problems as a whole. As a fan of Paper Mario 64 and TTYD and the Metroid series I'm disgusted. I understand those who have a positive approach and want to see what the game has, that's okay, you're as entitled to keep your positivity as we fans are allowed to keep our legit criticisms. Honestly another reason I don't agree with the chance cared is because when you look at it in a non-barebones and rose colored perspective, what do you truly see? Do you see PM64? Do You see TTYD or some Super elements? No, it's all 100% Sticker Star, all they did was slightly altered a couple of things and added a new gimmick to mooch off of what Sticker Star had. These elements in this trailer all tell us fans that this direction for the series isn't the series itself, but rather something completely different. There is such a thing as "judging a book by its cover" and legitimately having criticism to throw over poor decision making. The JAP/EU trailers already confirmed there's no Exp again.. And honestly I don't see this type of thing being in an early stage knowing it's coming out later this year unless there's a huge delay. Even so the gimmick stuff isn't what Paper Mario needs, it's not what the series is about. Be optimistic as much as you want, I'm not saying you can't, but just understand why we fans of Metroid and Paper Mario are bashing these new games. Nintendo has also ruined the Mario party series as if Mario Party lately has been so bland and lackluster. And there's Mario Tennis Ultra Stale.

We need to clarify something here, Shokio. Nintendo doesn't make these recent games in their personal, desired vision. They INTENTIONALLY add gimmicks and/or remove landmark features because THEY THINK we would like it better! They think these alterations will increase sales and make more people more happy. All it is doing is making less people, less happy, because everyone has moved on.

I think that it's the pressure Nintendo is getting to be different. Nintendo has one of the most vocal fanbases out there. So how in the hell can they keep making games that their audience doesn't want. Paper Mario fans want a new game that's like The Thousand Year Door and not Sticker Star 2. Paper Mario Wii U is announced and it's Sticker Star 2. Animal Crossing fans want a new game on Wii U. We get amiibo festival instead. Metroid fans want something, ANYTHING...we get a game that doesn't even look like a Metroid game. Maybe because most of Nintendo big developers are working on NX games Nintendo has had to fill their release schedule with low budget, quick to churn out spin-offs and this is the resulting backlash. Maybe when the NX announced we get a 3D Mario game like 64 or Galaxy and not a weird mix between 2D and 3D that basically doesn't appeal to either fans, maybe we'll finally get an actual fucking Metroid game. Maybe. But it's hard to keep faith in Nintendo these days. Maybe the NX will be when Nintendo finally changes things. Because after the failure of Nintendo this gen they can't see what needs to be fixed, then they deserve anything that happens to them.
@mrshmuga98 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking the same thing, these low quality games are just filler until the NX. Because back with the Wii, it's last year or two had next to nothing, so they probably are avoiding that this time. And since the Wii U hasn't sold as well as the Wii, they want to have a steady release of games coming out to at least make some money until everyone drops the Wii U like the plague. Plus they realized making big games for the Wii U would be a fruitless endeavor and took the quicker route. It's not great for fans or their image, but for Nintendo releasing something is better than nothing.
@symphomaniac8 жыл бұрын
Because a LOT of fans are simply taking it up the ass and are okay with what Nintendo is doing
@MegaLagann8 жыл бұрын
mrshmuga9 That's what I hope, but being optimistic about Nintendo these days is hard. I want the NX to be their comeback, the next SNES, hell even if it were their last system let it be like the Dreamcast and be a huge send off instead of the whimper the Wii U was, but like I said it's hard to be optimistic about Nintendo because this gen was filled with bad decision after bad decision. E3 is gonna be interesting.
@mrshmuga98 жыл бұрын
Mega Lagann It hasn't been completely awful. They've had plenty of great Wii U games, it's just been over the last year they've clearly been padding out their lineup by re-using assets, another port, or shoddy games. But, they also didn't give us a proper account system for Wii U/3DS, add voice chat to any of their games, no crossbuy promotions for VC games, they pitched the console as "for you/us" but didn't live up to what we asked for, and added in a new controller that sacrificed any all third party support (besides lack of power) which AGAIN they hardly supported with their own games. I love Nintendo's franchises... but I have plenty of Wii U games on my backlog that I can play while I wait to see how the NX pans out. E3 better be one hell of a show, especially if the NX launches this year and we're not getting news any earlier (which is a mistake to be honest).

Thanks based Shok for making this video, you have no idea how many times I've felt like saying this, especially with regards to color splash. The way I assess the problem is that Nintendo only seems to have a customer support service because it sounds good to say that they do, and they never actually use it for anything meaningful (at least, it feels that way outside of their Japanese fan base whose criticisms are apparently gospel if sticker star's development is anything to go by). This leads to this infuriating disconnect where Nintendo only "innovates" a series whenever they feel like it (paper Mario and metroid series even though we ask them to keep things traditional in such cases), but whenever we actually want a series to evolve (star fox, Mario kart, etc.) they barely iterate on it at all. It genuinely feels hopeless to try to get through to them as they always seem to do the opposite of what their fan base asks of them. If they don't get with the times and actually acknowledge that they have dedicsted customers beyond the 10 square miles that surrounds their headquarters, they sure as hell are going to lose longtime fans such as myself. There really is so much of this neglect a customer can take, and nintendo's bullshit mishandling of their IPs this generation really stretched my patience to its absolute limits.

The biggest problem facing Nintendo is actually the older management and how they are not only out of touch with the consumers but also have a hard time dealing with criticism. They want to pander to families as if they are doing politics or something by making everything as simple or bland and easy as possible. If you look at the interviews every decision they admit was made by the younger teams resonated really well with the consumer base. Heck Splatoon in itself is a really good example of that. Although it's a small game it feels full of energy and identity which separates it from the rest of the IPs.

I agree about Federation Force, not so much about the Paper Mario thing. The tone and atmosphere is incredibly important for the integrity of a series and thus any changes to that have to be approached with caution. It's basically why Other M was recieved so badly. For Paper Mario though they are changing core gameplay elements. This is - unlike a change in style and atmosphere - not inherently a bad thing. Imagine for example a Smash Bros without Items! ;P Sometimes innovation like that works out, sometimes it does not. I agree though, that they SHOULD learn from the failure of sticker star and I haven't seen enough about the new PM to judge if they did or not. If they make the same mistakes twice though you are right in calling them out.

I think of it like a dating scenario in some generic harem romance anime. Like Nintendo is the dumb protagonist that everyone can't help but love, but he's so indecisive and non-devoted that he can't choose between the girl that's loved him since childhood (real fans) and the girl way out of his league that's only dating him for her own gain and couldn't give two shits about him once she's gotten what she wants out of it (casuals). The Wii came and went, and now Nintendo doesn't have any value to casuals because they won't dive head first into mobile games, but for some reason Nintendo still thinks that if they just kept trying, they could capture lightning in a bottle all over again and get back together. The tablet controller, the gutting of basic features that don't appeal to casuals, and the reimaging of once beloved hardcore franchises into barebones casual garbage all point to this idea that Nintendo hasn't really gotten over losing the casual audience. They tried to market the Wii U as a console for both hardcores and casuals, but it's obvious to me at least that they're just using us fans as a fallback option while they keep trying to get casuals back for another round. And the most pathetic thing is that we want them back just as much as Nintendo wants casuals back, so we'll keep forgiving them for it because we'd rather pretend that Nintendo cares about us than risk losing them for being assertive.
@TheMisterManGuy8 жыл бұрын
I agree with what you're saying, but I also think this is something Nintendo seems to be trying to fix with the NX. If you remember that big September restructure in 2015, it put younger staff in charge of the company, and merged divisions to make things faster and more streamlined. If you read Dan Adelman's (former NoA indie head) interview about Nintendo, he says that the biggest problem with Nintendo's management is how slow and segregated it feels. Basically, to get anything done at Nintendo, each division of the company involved, including the shareholders has to be on board with the plan. If even one person says no durring the process, then that idea is as good as dead. So the restructuring should in theory, make that less of a problem. Now this isn't going to happen overnight. Right now Nintnedo is just burning off whatever they have left in the pipeline for the Wii U and the 3DS while they prep for the NX, so we won't see the effects of these changes until at least a year or two into the NX's life.
@TheLastLineLive8 жыл бұрын
some suggestions I have: 1) Metroid Federation Force, change some stuff, remove the Metroid stuff from it, make it a new IP, or maybe the it into a recent IP that could fit a multiplayer co-op thing but also has cutesy graphics, maybe do something like make it a Splatoon game. People would actually give it a chance and it would likely sell better and you wouldn't be pissing off hardcore Nintendo fans. 2) You guys need to appeal to the 3rd parties more. I think this is blatantly obvious. I get it is too late for the Wii U, but you need to make sure they're on board for NX and you also need to honestly improve it on the 3ds some, it has lacked in some segments.
@paidenthusiast8 жыл бұрын
I am a Nintendo fanboy but I do agree with what Shoke is saying. I myself was very disappointed in Federation Force and Paper Mario: Color Smash as I was with Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival but it really seems like Nintendo was trying to turn those games into quick cash grabs for the Wii U because even they have given up on the system. Look at the original Wii for example when it was selling so well. We got a lot of AAA 1st party exclusives and even some noteworthy 3rd party exclusives and that was because Nintendo felt that it was highly viable for them to heavily invest in the console because of the massive install base. They can't keep giving up on themselves when things don't go their way because they will end up losing even more consumers trust if it continues. Nintendo has got to start being the Nintendo of old again when the NX arrives because if they don't the end could be very close and for one do not want to see that ever happen. I want them back on top of the gaming world but like Shoke said, they got to start focusing more on their core fanbase but at the same time focus on the general gamer too

+Shokio they are propably saving a Metroid Prime Game for the NX I honestly don't see the art style of Federation Force as a big deal since it's a spin-off game.
@Donuts-cl7el8 жыл бұрын
+1216Rockman Yeah, but if it doesn't look or feel like a Metroid game than what's the point of including a part of that series. The Mario Partys, RPGs, Mario Kart games, and Captain Toad Treasure Tracker felt like Mario games even though they are spin-offs. Keep in mind, I'm not even a Metroid fan and from the very second I saw the trailer during the E3 live direct I felt it wasn't Metroid game.
@PoweredByFlow8 жыл бұрын
+Donuts1998 Thats a good point actually, the Mario spinoffs still feel like Mario games but Federation Force doesn't do the same with Metroid. The artstyle is probably a result of being on the 3DS but they really went over their heads with this one. I mean the heads of the characters are bigger than their bodies...
@Gorlokk6668 жыл бұрын
+1216Rockman I think Shokio mentioned around the time of release that one of his biggest problems with Federation Force is that yes, it's just a spinoff, but it's been like what, 6 years since the last mainline Metroid game? Not to mention the last one was Other M, so....
@1216Rockman8 жыл бұрын
Donuts1998 It's a spin-off that uses concepts and enemies from the original game, doesn't really affect the overall canon and probably won't matter in the long run apart from a mention.

shamalamadingdong. for real though. you're speaking the truth. been saying this for a while. color splash is especially weird to me because literally every nintendo fan i know loudly and frequently verbalizes their dislike for sticker star online - very clearly discusses how they hate this gameplay and want the original/thousand year door style to come back. like - if they were in touch at all with the internet or their fans feedback, THEY SHOULD KNOW THIS. so - they are either not listening to what we are saying at all. OR they are hearing it, and doing the EXACT OPPOSITE. either way, it does not bode well...... for us or them.

You're really cherry picking here with that Mario example. I can give you real examples that counter your point. What if I told you that in a Mario game, when you go jump onto a Goomba, it turns into a turn based battle? That ain't Mario. But guess what? That spin-off turned into an amazing series of Mario RPG's. A similar thing could be said with Metroid Pinball. No one got mad about that game. The main issue isn't to do with spin-off games using established IP. The main issue is the lack of core instalments of the franchise along with the spin-offs. No one would complain about Federation Force if we knew a core Metroid game was also in development. So focus on the real issue here. Federation Force isn't the problem, it's the lack of a core Metroid game. And let's be honest here, Nintendo is holding back right now for NX. So wait until the line up for NX is announced. If Metroid isn't there, then start complaining. And who knows, Federation Force could be atmospheric, etc. We haven't played the whole game.You're caught up on the chibi artstyle. Yes it sucks, but that's one small part of the game (not all models are chibi style, just your character). Who knows, the game could actually be good. My point is, play the game (not just a demo) before complaining so much.

Ya I hate the "well you still have older [insert entry of media]". It's like so what? Doesn't mean you want crappy new entries. All you can do is to go on Twiiter with @NintendoAmerica and #PaperMarioColorSplash and voice your grievances. Better than a forum because they're getting it directly. Down votes on the trailer would help, but they didn't even bother to publish it on their channel, as if to circumvent the dislikes. Although that didn't stop them from releasing the new Metroid trailer and disabling ratings so maybe they're just lazy and couldn't be bothered to make clips of each game shown.

Another thing I think is wrong with Nintendo as well as the fans is that they haven't realized they can't pull a Sony and just release a console and expect all to go well. Sony earned that by making there consoles easier to develop for. Nintendo needs to work harder than Sony to get third parties and expecting third parties to come back just cause Nintendo makes a good console is insane. It will help but not to that extent. Nintendo should also branch out into more genre's. I really think they can make a good fighting game. They also need to stop being third parent. The fact that Nintendo still dances on egg shells just to make sure most of their games are kid friendly ruins a lot of their games potential. Most kids by it anyway so why try so hard to make it even lower than T for teen!

I'm definitely one of those people that's kinda moved on, Shoke. Back in middle school and the first 2 years of high school I was kinda a Nintendrone, buying most of the Wii exclusives, believing Ninty was on top of everything, but once I got my PS3, things went down from there. I even got the NEW 3DS XL last year, and I've BARELY played it as much as I should because of the PS systems, plus their games seem way more fun and appealing to me. I mean I still wanna get a Wii U regardless when the NX comes out, but I'm highly unmotivated to actually play it, other than Smash sometimes. :(

I didn't think people had a problem with the art style of Federation Force, I mean I don't like the big head look but I was unhappy with Federation Force before we saw the character models. The problem is it's a multiplayer game which is not what Metroid is supposed to be.
@timofcent18 жыл бұрын
My main problem with modern Nintendo is their addiction to gimmicky gameplay. It seems like every game they release has to revolve around a gimmick the whole play through. Using Paper Mario as an example: the first two Paper Mario games had plenty of gimmicks, but every one of them worked towards improving the experience of the core gameplay. With a game like Sticker Star, the gimmick doesn't improve the core gameplay; it IS the core gameplay.
@Jnmicter8 жыл бұрын
I don't think that the graphical style of Federation Force is really the main problem. It seems like Nintendo is afraid to make any substantial entries in their main IPs right now. We've had shitty spinoffs like AC Amiibo Party and Happy Home Designer, Triforce Heroes, and now Federation Force. We need something with substance, something that isn't a clear spin-off. If Metroid Prime 4 was in development in tandem with Federation Force, I would have absolutely no issue with it. But Metroid fans have been waiting 6 years for a new entry (9 for a GOOD new entry) and this is all we get.

At the end of the Wii generation and the beginning of the 3DS and Wii U, I was a pretty hardcore Nintendo fanboy. In the past 6ish years though, there have been a lot of personal disappointments. I don't really like the direction the Fire Emblem series is going. Metroid's last game was trash, and 5 years later we get multiplayer Chibiroid. F-Zero is STILL neglected. Star Fox is FINALLY getting a game which, like you say Shokio, isn't really a big step forward for the series. Paper Mario is essentially ruined. Super PM was still good and should have stayed the only game that strayed from the traditional PM formula. SS was trash and Color Splash is on the same road. Animal Crossing fans got the middle finger with a fucking terrible game that even critics hated (Where as most of the other games I've mentioned fared well with reviews, they just disappoint me and some others). Mario and Zelda get 20 spinoffs and various games per year to the point where I just hardly care for them anymore. I'm sure there are a few other things too, but I don't want it to seem like I hate Nintendo or anything. They're still my favorite of the three, and Splatoon is one of the greatest games I've played in quite awhile. But it's true what you say Shokio, even Nintendo fans are losing interest in Nintendo. I really hope that Nintendo has a lot of nice surprises in store for the NX... They kind of need to honestly.

+GTMarlin SM4SH ...that makes no sense. Didn't the censorship work against the waifu bullshit? And as for the main problems...while I agree that the waifu bullshit is stupid, it is optional in the long run. The core gameplay is still there, and it's as glorious as ever. And the waifu bullshit can be used strategically. If you ship your avatar with a character with good growths, you're child could potentially become a god among men. So in the long run, the waifu stuff or whatever is just another layer of strategy. The game was never meant to be a simulator.

+Gorlokk we got 3 mainline console Zeldas for gamecube and Wii, metroid got 4 over those console life spans but one was shit. Zelda doesn't really get many unique titles, we just got these remastered ports lately to make it seems like it. Really it's just padding cause Nintendo is delaying Zelda U as long as they can so they can cross-gen launch it, making the Wii U the only console without a unique-exclusive Zelda game. Which is a load of horse shit. I want 2 Zeldas and 2 Metroids per console, instead we are getting basically zero cause of cross gen. Mario can fuck off, just give me one 3D mario and I'm fine with that, cause the little bastard also gets Tennis,party,kart,paper spinoffs to compensate. We got like THREE 2d marios for the Wii U, buncha horseshit, New super mario bros U, super luigi bros, and mario maker. They all sold well but I'd prefer if we just had Mario Maker and that's it

I fail to see how this is relevant- Nintendo has been losing fans since its inception. Thing is, they continue to gain NEW fans since its inception, and continue to make PROFIT doing so. Can't see how this is their "biggest problem" if it doesn't hurt their bottom line quarterly, annually, or even over entire console generations. Regarding Metroid, did you play the original NES game? There was nothing "high-end" about that game visually, and it was definitely cartoony.

You fail to see how this is relevant? Their hardcore fans are ALL they've had for the last 4 gens minus the Wii (casuals). If we leave, they'll literally have nothing left at that. They would pull out of the console business at that point.

+Shadow Fox Infinite You're a special kind of stupid, the kind that had to be created in a lab, devoid of logic and reason. they are clearly have been losing fans for years to the point they posted their first losses in history even while gaining new fans they are losing them at a much faster rate.

+Zachary Brocone Congratulations on confusing "stupidity" with the English language, as well as comprehension of it.
@ShadowFoxInfinite8 жыл бұрын
Shokio "They are losing fans faster than they are gaining them. They are going negative." And what math are you using to support that? "N64: 33 million Gamecube: 22 million" 11 million users "lost", with ZERO confirmation of whether these were casual, or hardcore players lost. No way to determine. "Wii U: 13 million, will probably max out at 15-16, if that." An estimate by you, assuming Wii U will only sell 2 million additional units for the rest of its lifespan (even throughout the inevitable price drop before, or after its successor is launched). Wii on the other hand, almost doubled the sales of Nintendo's most popular platform in history (NES). "You fail to see how this is relevant? Their hardcore fans are ALL they've had for the last 4 gens" This is an assumption. You have zero evidence to support the idea that 100% of Nintendo's audience was hardcore dating back to the NES (4 generations). In fact, the opposite is more likely, as the NES was inarguably a pop culture monument for the late 80's- early 90's. "If we leave, they'll literally have nothing left at that. They would pull out of the console business at that point." 1. If that's the case, then Nintendo would post exponentially lower profits every console generation (since you seem to want to tie user base as direct ratio to commercial success). They have not. 2. Nintendo has repeatedly stated that they will leave the video game business altogether if they no longer had a viable business. There is no "pull out of the console business" as an option. I think I've pointed out what I've stated pretty clearly, and as logically as possible. Hopefully this clears up things.

There is a progression of strength though shoke it's in the stickers, but i'm not knocking u for wanting a level up system, i'd say that sticker star is better suited as an experiment, and then the next game (color splash) should have a nice balance of rpg elements (which they didn't do of course). As i think about it more though sticker star feels like monster hunter, as the strength doesn't lie within the level of your character but in the power of the items you have equipped to use in battle.

I tend to give spin offs some slack. If Federation Force was the next iteration for the main series, then I'd be mad. And it's on the 3DS of all things with the Prime artstyle. I think it's fine for what it is. You really aren't going to hit that Gamecube graphics level on 3DS. Not saying I can't see why people wouldn't like it. As for Paper Mario(and any game announced at E3 2015 and forward) for Wii U/3DS, everything just felt like filler. Paper Mario, Mario Tennis, Amiibo Festival, Happy Home Designer, Mario Maker, Triforce Heroes, Federation Force, etc. ALL FILLER. These games seemed like to me like they just needed to release some titles that took little effort, before the NX released. Throw in the fact that all of these games were also spinoffs for their respective series(maybe not Mario Maker). If this keeps up when NX launches, then we'll have a problem. I believe they have much more respect to these franchises and giving the fans what they want when it comes to the main series of their games.
