A "Good" character, is a Well written character _regardless_ of their race, gender, or sexual orientation. A "Bad" character, is a Poorly written character that is _mainly defined_ by their race, gender, or sexual identity. Good writers know how to write based on the first example. There are many examples of this in videogames; RDR2 is a good example of Well written characters. The Dragon Age writers are not "Good" writers.

I have to disagree about the point of dustborn. I think one of the biggest reasons it failed is because of the agenda of" wokeness" that was in the game. Even if the game was polished and solid and it played like God of war 4, I still think it would have failed. I'm open to having a respectable discussion/dialogue. This Is stupid but I'm kind of in the middle about it. I think this fall in a combination of if the game is "woke" and if it's a shit game like dustborn. I think you can have that argument. But I do think Concord played very solid. The gameplay was good (which comes down to people's opinion) but the characters were ugly. Which caused to fail. I do believe 100% if the characters were attractive (in the looks department and in the appeal ,AKA they look cool) It would have succeeded. You can look apex, OverWatch, siege as kind of a comparison. Cool character design. Cool characters solid gameplay... Now, even though those games above Apex, overwatch, have cool lovable character design and decent gameplay, the moment developers introduced their sexuality, their agenda, everything that fall under the umbrella of what these people think" wokeness" is, A small margarine of people stop playing them. people protest against it. They're not necessarily going broke but you can simply compare the numbers to when it was at its peak before the introduction of "wokeness" and what it is today at full-blown "wokeness" .. But this is a hard thing to do in games like OverWatch 2 which was protested for multiple reasons. One being it could have just been DLC. Siege is hard to do because it isn't the same game as it was released. Now it is a fast-paced tactical shooter. And that these games have pooled a different audience then it was released. I think you can make an an argument that it failed to retain the same audience, but that's a entirely different conversation... One thing we forget is that there are a lot of examples of Star wars, Star Trek, people making media and pushing an agenda (like the example you gave of X-Men) people making media and it is about something political which we're fine with . And someone coming out and saying " Oh I'm making a media (tv video games) and this is woke, we are woke and I am pushing an agenda. Something about that Just drives people nuts. What I have found out is if it's about current politics, racial issues or things that's going on in today's world. That's when they use to go woke go broke. Just food for thought and thinking out loud.

I wish I had this video 10 years ago. I wasn't a huge gamer gate guy, but I was definitely leaning towards the wrong side of that fence. It's crazy that so much drama was made largely off of women and black people being featured in games. I remember there being some stuff from people like Anita Sarkeesian that was pretty cringe, that the internet really ran with in a way that radicalized a generation of gamers, and in hindsight the people that were called SJWs were probably like 90% right. I understand the frustration that some people are misusing the word woke and grifting off of legitimate concerns, but at some point we have to be honest and call a spade, a spade. The game used Marxist language and ideology, it has identity politics at the front and center to the point of using it for superpowers. We can't just pretend that wasn't there and a large part of why it failed. It's pretty obvious it was propaganda and that's why a lot of people didn't want to play it. Here's my issue in a nutshell, I understand that there are grifters using the word "woke" poorly and aren't calling out the issues. I understand that there are extremists who push too far into legitimate -isms. However, we can't go so far against that that we ignore to Marxist political invasion of our media that destroys not only art but the relations between people of different demographics. There are legitimate issues with woke ideology, there are legitimate issues with DEI policy, there are legitimate issues with creators attempting to spite their audience for political reasons. Those are issues that we still need to call out just as much as extremists and grifters using this political turmoil for their own ends. For every Acolyte or Dragon Age Veilguard there's a Synthetic Man or AndyPants, both need to be called out, not simply because they are bad content but because of the bad ideas they push. This isn't even mentioning media collision, corruption, and anti-consumer practices.

Cool to see you uploading again Shok. Something you forgot to mention that I could tell you were eluding to was bad media with a straight white male protagonist can just be considered bad. But bad media featuring a POC, a woman, or an LGBT character always ends up being accused of “DEI” bs by these grifters. A game like Immortals of Aveum can come out to middling reviews and you don’t see a whole lot of people losing sleep over it. But then a game like Dragon Age The Veilguard comes out to decent reviews and DEI grifters start making video after video on it. Likely because of things in the game they perceive to be “woke”.

“You can’t complain about two things!” Need I remind you, when a game hasn’t released it’s much clearer to tell if there’s woke (arbitrary/inauthentic changes) elements in a trailer or press release, rather than how well it runs. Because it might look slow in a trailer because it’s an old build that’s fixed in the final release. But if they tell you “this mechanic or character has been changed/removed for the modern audience” months before release, then you can more easily complain about that. Because it’s already confirmed it’ll be that way in the final product and isn’t subject to change (back). Also, plenty of these woke games run horribly or unoptimized because they’re not trying to hire the best programmers or employees, but because it fills a DEI checkbox so they can get more ESG funds. When people see a company/game announce they’re either appealing to DEI checkboxes or trying to appeal to them”modern audience”, it’s a tell-all that the game is more focused on lecturing players about the director’s progressive politics (at the behest of anything established in that universe) and that it’ll very likely be garbage from a story/gameplay angle and/or from a technical level, because their priority isn’t on making the most interest/optimized game. Having a game like Veilguard where you’ll have scenes that are just 4 “good guy” options reworded differently rather than 2 good/2 bad or neutral or some combination, just to appease the director, is an example of ideology affecting mechanics. Meanwhile, in past BioWare games, in ME2 you could punch a reporter. If you think wokeness “just affects writing” then you’re not paying attention. Their character creator can’t even make an average woman’s body because it’s so limited. Like, it’s not like people are demanding G-sized boobs, you can’t even make C or B, possibly because the leads involved are trans and can’t have anything bigger than A in real life (with hormone pills, outside plastic surgery). Butts are equally flat. If people are supposed to be “represented” in media, and gaming is “50/50 men and women”, then they’re excluding a whole ton of people because they “can’t create themselves”. It also limits the replay ability for a game where you’re supposed to be able to make wildly different characters each time. And then it’s also another level of laziness, because it means they don’t have to design/fix armour if you only have one or two significant body types (one for each gender) rather than multiples in total for each gender that vary more wildly. And it’s not just about women. You could have guys with big muscles that would also pose a problem if not accounted for (in the same way you’d have to account for cleavage with women of average bust size). But it’s much easier to not include those options at all. Even though the point of a character creator is to have a wide array of options. If the only real significant difference outside of male/female is the head/hair options, then you might as well not have it and just make two definitively-designed characters that’ll look better than most can/will muster.

The actress may be cringe, and it may end up being woke, but people are getting ahead of themselves. "You're not worried about gameplay (how it was only a cinematic trailer). You're not worried about story (because you're stuck on the previous one apparently). You're not worried about performance. You straight up admit the first thing you're worried about is "iS It wOke" How dense are you? When you start out with just trailers, you have limited info. If you see a character spew some modern-day talking point that either wouldn't fit that time period/universe/character, and clearly a self-insert for the writer... that's going to be more apparent and potentially a microcosm of the game. People are worried about the other aspects. But you can't judge the performance in a trailer because that will improve over time, and trailers use old (not final) builds. You can barely get a grasp of the gameplay because trailers barely show any to gleam anything from, unless it's a complete genre change. And the writing of characters' lines IS apart of the story. If the writing comes off as poor or breaks established rules, that's fair to criticize. And you know what? Unlike performance, the writing isn't gonna change after 6 months. They've already written it, recorded the lines, and animated/mo-capped it. They're not going back on that. You could argue "well maybe it's a one-off thing" but enough people gave that benefit of the doubt to a bunch of games, and that hasn't been the case. So yeah, they're gonna be weary because they notice a consistent pattern. It's not rocket science.

I think one big problem I have be even when the projects are original when they are made, the characters and stories just are very flaccid and lame or just straight out look ugly or karen-like on purpose. Returnal is my example. Why did the character have to look like a pruned raisin karen like that? why not a beautiful fresh look more like Samus? because I never want to play as Karen. On characters of color ( Mainly black characters mentioned ), just make them cool and endearing. Tachala and Killmonger were great. Blade is cool. Axl Brody from Ygo GX has a cool design. Afro samurai is pretty genuine and top tier. I've seen Miles Morales mentioned and what I can say based on Spider-verse is the character is just okay but will never top the OG Peter Parker in my book. Its not hard, just don't make things lame af. get rid of weird as shit millennial college speak because shit shatters immersion. at the end of the day though... if something leans more towards cringe then cool... thats how I make my choice to or not to engage with a game or show. You use your eyes to study say...? Smash Bros., Tekken, Street Fighter, Guilty Gear and DB FighterZ character rosters then you stack it up against things that would be considered "woke games". The former is carefully crafted for a broader gamer focused market appeal then the latter is made for a very small niche who is in forever 2014-6, virtue signaling while sipping Starbucks on their smart device and finally they don't actually play games while they're game of the year is always Xwitter even after the Elon patch.

I'm not some (P)corn coomer by any means... but thier is a certain level of attractive basic criteria to meet if you want me to play as your character... I have the same bias factor for guys as far as how cool and good of a character they are... I would chill with Ryu, Dante or Cloud all day but I wouldn't really care for someone like Rufus or Roadhog. Everyone has thier own tastes.

The same people complaining about wokeness played tons of games decades ago that had all sort of racial/sexual minorities or women. Either as protagonists or as important characters. The issue is taking established franchises and changing them to be inauthentic (break lore, change characters’ looks, change personalities, remove features/mechanics) all to appease that person’s personal politics, and not what the paying customer is interested in. These leads/directors will literally tell you on twitter they change something to spite a (large, but they don’t admit) section of the audience or because said franchise “has a problem with X” and removes it or dumbs it down. Not to mention adding in tokenism, characters just there to spew their talking points rather than something nuanced or because it would make sense in-universe. For Dragon Age: Veilgaurd, there’s a seen where one character comes out as non-binary, and out of the 4 options, they’re all tacitly approving. You can argue whether disapproving is being “mean” or whatever, but this is a _BioWare_ RPg with _dialogue options._ You should have an array of different paths, not one. But the people making it want you only to play as a character that can accept it because they personally identify/relate to that. Meanwhile, in Mass Effect 2 you can punch a reporter. That’s a renegade option, but hey, these games are supposed to be about actual different options. Because they’re supposed to be like D&D games where you replay with completely different characters. So the only thing that’s new isn’t the demographics of characters shown or playable, it’s the lecturing down to the player by the writer/director/lead, which they tell you on social media platforms.

For Example: Why is every single AC game since AC1 features a native character from the region or location the charaters are from but AC shadows uses a black character as a playable character instead of a japanese MALE character. That is bonafied pure DEI. What you FAILED to elaborate on is the CONTEXT! People immediately thought DEI for Ghost of Yotei for showing a female character was because female samurai/retainers were EXTREMELY rare and GHOST of Tsushima pushes historical accuracy into its game. As far as the argument goes… people don’t like seeing established characters/universes changed at the whim of some writer to be a mouthpiece for their viewpoints. It’s an insult to the customers/players that made said franchise big enough that allowed them to have a job in the first place. You’re reduce to “body type a/b” as if that isn’t insulting. It’s not even that creators necessarily want it, it’s a top-down change to either qualify for certain funds or to appeal “globally” even though no one likes it. Finished watching the rest of the video, and the main problem I have with the anti-woke crowd is that they habitually fixate on a story/game being bad because of woke aspects and trying to spin a narrative from there; it's all motivated by their own politics. The irony is most of them will tell you they're fighting against forcing politics themselves. Diversity is bad but they'll complain about media lacking in white male characters. Forced ideology is bad but you'll never hear them complain about media that does this that aligns with their views. They want media made by those minority groups so it's authentic, but they'll still call media that is forced. This show/game is bad solely because of its woke elements even if it's still bad if those aspects were removed. The anti-woke crowd won't have the same energy for a game like Callisto Protocol or a movie like Absolution that they have for something "woke" like Veilguard. Just convenient thought terminating cliches to load into your head so you can tell yourself all the bad media was made by people with bad politics (politics you disagree with) and all the good ones lack those. Even in this comment section you have a quite a few people who obviously barely watched the video making arguments shokio already addressed in the video itself, but that's been a running theme with this channel since it started lmao.

I remember playing Smash 64 as a kid, thinking Samus was a he, until I played the Metroid series later on. “Appealing” is the key term. Because something like Junkrat isn’t hot, and is literally dirty, but his aesthetic is unique and interesting. The Concord characters look like they were churned out by an AI or by committee. There is no identifiable theme with each one that the designer can capitalize on, like Lucio being a DJ or Reaper being a Grim Reaper of sorts. Which is life and death for a hero shooter where people are extremely focused on character designs. Why choose one over another, or even bother grinding for costumes (or paying for them) if they all look unappealing? No one’s going to invest time in it, and especially not spend $40 when there’s better options. Nothing about it looked like it had anything special from visuals or gameplay. It’s funny they were inspired by Overwatch and despite that barely kicking these days, it’s still alive and outdoing Concord even with all the reversals they’ve done.

To me the really unfortunate part is that the go woke go broke bros are beginning to get their way. Lightyear is another example of where the movie failed, because it was bloated yet dull and boring and unimaginative, but because it was ‘woke’ (has a same sex kiss) clearly that’s why it failed. Not only do people think that way but Disney now seems to think this as well, so apparently with Inside Out 2 there were internal talks at Pixar to make Riley ‘seem less gay.’ Which doesn’t actually mean that she ever was gay or intended to be, but just don’t give the babies the wrong impression or else they’ll throw a tantrum. To me the problem is where the ‘just make a good story’ people clearly have an issue with certain kinds of stories, and wanna tell the rest of us what we can and can’t tell stories about.

If you want whatever you want to continue, all you have to do is… actually financially support it. If enough people reward them, they’ll follow that path instead. However, what you’re implying is that a company might listen to what the market wants. Because all the people that claim XYZ has to have ABC represented regardless of execution, aren’t actually putting their dollar where their mouth is. And companies aren’t going to continually do something that isn’t financially successful (regardless of what kind of content is within it).

Calling a game woke simply for having a non white or female protag/character is pretty annoying and r3tarded, but I dont know if I can condemn gamers too much at this point. Feels like there's a push to kill off and demonize beloved male characters and replace them with female characters that arent nearly as well written. Didn't the joker get rated and killed in Joker 2? Joel killed. Marcus phoenix replaced. The list goes on. You'll never see Lara Croft get replaced. Or Samus. Just saying.

I don't care about wokeness or anything but at the same time I don't like how things are sometimes pushed in videos games and movies that have nothing to do with the context of the game or movie. For example I watch this animated Netflix series that had two gay characters. I didn't mind it, I watch the whole series. But I cringed so hard when they blatantly force their gayness on the screen. For example there was a shoot out between the good guys and bad guys, which was well animated. But in the middle of the shootout these two nikkas started kissing. Like wtf, it made no sense. Even if that was a male and female that kissed I would still find it cringe and pointless. They just add that pointless moment (one of many) to make sure to prove the point that they were gay and that the audience saw and accepted their gayness. That's what people I believe mean when they say they are forcing things into films and games. And it kinda ruining the context and quality of some media. If you want to make a gay or black or trans etc etc game, I have no problem. But don't use that as a trope to sell your game or ruin the quality of the content.

I think there are multiple camps of people who are "anti-woke" but it seems you are picking on the vocal minority of that "anti-woke" side to disprove the larger "anti-woke" groups that have a more reasonable concern. No just you but it seems everyone does this with all aspects of politics.
