Love the dope editing on here holy shit! YUP Shoke you called it 10 years ago, and honestly the video you did in 2011 called “The Companies That Keep Screwing Us” was a prologue to how 8th gen & 9th gen gaming has been. I’m kinda surprised you didn’t talk about how hard these companies like Sony keep pushing for all digital with the PS5 Pro while simultaneously taking off LittleBigPlanet 3 at the end of the month (bought a physical copy used tonight from one of my THREE local GameStops for $15, a whole WHOOPING $10 less than the $25 microtransaction skins you talked about). And Naughty Dog too omg, they haven’t had a whole new whooping game since TLOU Part II in 2020 - the stand alone MP got cancelled & their rumored fantasy game hasn’t come to light at ALL yet. I was honestly thinking of getting my PS5 refurbished since Sony hasn’t earned the sales for it, but given some of them stop working after a year I’ll probably get it new to be safe, but it just goes to show how nothing much gets done unless you REALLY hurt these companies where they’re wallet is.

3 of my favorite games this gen have been Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dead Space Remake and Silent Hill 2 Remake which says a lot. I'm definitely a lot more picky with purchases nowadays its rare for a game to launch in a solid technical state with no monetization crap so I always support the ones that do. Used to be big into multiplayer but completely gave up on that because of the time and money sink/greed. Glad you are back bro I hope you upload more videos!

@firestriker68463 ай бұрын
That's true but the older gamers are the ones who paved the way for that in the first place. PS3/360 era, new gamers either wasn't thought of or were too young to play games like that. It started with the older gen that allowed this crap in the first place.

I think this is the reason I enjoyed Palworld so much. Sure, it didn't have the most top-of-the-line presentation, grand orchestral music scores, celebrity voice acting, or cinematic, hollywood cutscenes. Hell, it's not even the perfect game, but it didn't need those things. It just focused on being a fun game to *play*. No battle passes, no macrotransactions, no pop-up ads being shoved in my face, and FREE major updates. Seriously, it's ridiculous that games you PAY for, have battle passes and microtransactions... Games really did go from being developed by nerds, to being developed by business men.

The fixation with making that BIG TRIPLE A game is what gets me the most. There are a lot of series that get left by the wayside to create that one game that appeals to everyone, but end up failing due to either coming off as another generic title or by not making enough to turn a profit from an overly bloated budget. Why can’t we be taken back to simpler times?
@KeyJayHD3 ай бұрын
No one wants style anymore. This over fixation on realism in entertainment is incredibly tiresome. What's wrong with things being stylized? What's wrong with looking classic or avant-garde? ... ... Ohh I know, it's RISK. And you know who isn't afraid to take risks? Indies ❤️ ... Why do we want to be so real anyway? Real life sucks! I came to games to escape from that, not to look outside at uncanny valley caricatures of myself behind saran wrap...looking at you every UE5 game clone ever.

Battle passes are so bad, I remember my mate saying he needed to get home to play some game in order to finish off his battle pass he bought before the season ended. He wasn't playing for fun anymore.

Bloated budgets and a priority on graphics over gameplay are kind of an inevitable consequence of new consoles almost solely focusing on higher specs as their differentiating factor. At the rate the industry is going, I'm expecting a full transition to cloud services within the next few decades, where there's no longer an expectation of perpetual expensive visual leaps.

Here are the problems with modern video gaming: 1. Today's Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft and other video game developing companies want way too much money for everything. 2. Today's Nintendo sucks because they won't let you livestream their games to your KZbin and Twitch accounts! 3. Every year, Nintendo shut down their online game consoles (Both home and handheld) and then they move on to their next-generation Nintendo consoles (Both home and handheld). 4. Digital downloading videos games are fun, but digital versions of video games end up getting delisted. 5. Today's developers like to rush their video games without play-testing their games before releasing them! 6. Update patches are a blessing and sometimes a curse. And here is what I mean: sometimes update patches fix what is wrong with today's games and sometimes update patches make today's video games even more broken and unbalanced. And 7. Today's developers make online video games that do not keep track of how many times you win and lose online races, fighting game matches, etc..

You cooked back then, and you’re still cooking today! Just amazes me how these AAA devs nowadays think they can bank on these big budget projects with barely anything else going on as far as smaller projects goes, and think they can sustain doing this for years on end. It’s no wonder why Nintendo keeps trucking along as it does because they have a more balanced approach now with making games for the Switch, and the indie game scene is gaining more traction too because they keep things simple, and focus more on providing unique gameplay experiences, or bring up more familiar gameplay styles with a few twists of their own.

22:36 These companies will complain how “expensive” games cost (yet not scale back), meanwhile boast how game X made more money than ever, even accounting for inflation. If high risk, high reward is what they want to play, then that’s on them. You can have your 5 year, $200 Million games if you want, but don’t come crying to me when that’s ALL you make and not have some smaller projects to try and supplement that.
@sagejay98163 ай бұрын
small projects net nothing 🤣🤣🤣 the indie space is worst off then the AAA space there are so many indie games that put out maybe 1 game and thats it there bankrupt the indie space hasnt moved past the nes/snes days there barely into the sega 32 bit rel-em I play alot of games and most of the indie games I play are the ones that look like they've been made in the past 2-3 console generations and those are few are far between get to the orange door, neon white, redout 2, car x, project wingman, trepang 2, severed steel, hades, ect. Most indie games are subpar 2d platformers which have been done to death, metro vania games "o boy" or some knock off animal crossing type game we just got retro boomer shooters but the later we get in the tons of thousands of o and sub par horror games 🤣🤣🤣
@Drstrange30003 ай бұрын
Companies complaining about budget while refusing to scale ba k has been one of the most frustrating and infuriating things happening right now in the industry. They actively choose to make these forever games and make them like MMOs. Instead of semi open or open linear, they make these gigantic open worlds and then scramble to fill it with interesting content and find themselves with feature creep. Even games like Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth went way into quantity over quality, which deviates from their smaller districts with lots of density. The whole Dondoko Island and the Alpha Link felt so unnecessary. Instead of a couple of small districts, you have 2 large maps and 1 small district. The series is excellent but is getting too big.
@mrshmuga93 ай бұрын
@@sagejay9816 "Smaller" projects aren't necessarily "one guy in his basement" small. AAA level games from 10-15 years ago would be AA today, and they could do that. It's not about making as much money as their 5 year AAA $200 million projects, it's about making SOME amount of money in those 5 years of making NO money. And those AAA projects from 10-15 years ago that would be "small/AA" today were enough to keep those studios running. My whole point is that as a business you need to _diversify,_ which these companies aren't doing. They're dumping all their eggs into one basket or volatile/unsustainable markets like free-to-play games. They see a Fortnite or a The Last of Us and think they need to bet everything on that because they want HUGE money NOW. Meanwhile, you have studios like FromSoft that made more modest scoped/budgeted games, which built up a reputation that everyone is focusing on now. Companies forgot (or ignored) that it's extremely hard to fast-track your way to success with one game and that it's a fluke. And that the more reasonable approach is being slower to become more sustainable. But they're all captured by shareholders and shareholders want 10x the money you made 5 seconds ago, so instead they're chasing trends that they'll either be too late to or fizzle out by the time they actually release something.
