"How many people were there?" 500,000. Let me emphasize that - Five Hundred Thousand. That was Woodstock. That wasn't *a* concert. That was *the* concert. The music festival of all music festivals. That was the god-tier concert, and every band there gave god-tier performances. Oh, PS: The organizers had actually planned for, like, 30,000. Due to the amazing band line-up and a false rumor about free tickets, they got 500,000. And that was just the number that got in. Thousands more never made it but were stuck on the way. By an absolute miracle - literally, I'd say, a series of miracles - it was not a total disaster. The local community, totally overwhelmed, pulled together to help and keep things safe and happy. The state and local police, with the highways and roads literally shut down by the huge masses of people trying to get there, cooperated and kept everything as safe as possible with most of the county completely locked in - nothing could move in or out and there were hundreds of thousands of stranded people. The county and state government of NY went into help mode instead of control mode. Local businesses donated food, water, medicines, hygiene stuff, etc. A nearby military base helicoptered in a field medical unit. And it rained almost the whole weekend of the 3-day festival. The organizers didn't just not make any money on it, they lost big-time. But nobody died. Nobody got seriously hurt. No permanent damage was done. And what could have been the single worst concert disaster ever, instead became the single most legendary music event ever. If you ever want to understand the expression "the show must go on," watch the full Woodstock documentary this video is clipped from.

Santana - The most amazing mix of Afro-Cuban rhythm with Rock and Jazz. Carlos Santana (lead guitar), Greg Rolie (keyboards), Michael Carabello (percussion), Michael Shrieve (drums), David Brown (bass guitar), Jose Areas (conga and timbales drums). For me the highlight of Woodstock. The following year they released their album "Abraxas" which went to number one. A fantastic recording. The lineup has changed multiple times since then, but Carlos continued to produce some fine music. More recently he came back into the limelight when he made a number of recordings in collaboration with various very different artists.

Gregg Rolie (the pianist) brought Neil Shon into Santana (guitarist) when he was a teenager. Gregg was a founding member of Santana. Later, Gregg and Neil left and started a group called Golden Gate Rhythm Section. It was more of a jazz fusion band. They were about to be dropped by their label for low album sales when they brought Steve Perry into the band. By tjat point they had already released three albums under the band name Journey. The only remaining founding member of Journey now... is Neil Shon ( pronounced Shawn).
