Not bad. "FP4" was the first thing that came to my mind... OK - now here is probably the best kept secret in analog photography. Do the following: go to a goodwill store and spend 15 bucks on a slide projector, preferably one that already has a 12/24V halogen bulb. Then get some ADOX Scala 160 black and white SLIDE FILM. Shoot it like you would shoot negative film - have fun with color filters and over/under exposing. *A dynamic range of 8-10 f-stops is possible!* Have the film processed then chop it up and carefully place the frames in glass-less slides. Pop the slides (upside-down) in a magazine, set up your projector and enjoy the most mind-blowing black-and-white (truly cinematic) experience you have ever had! The Scala 160 is a remake of the famous AGFA Scala 200 from the 90s. Manufactured by Fotoimpex (Germany) and rather hard to come by in the US. Occasionally, the film pops up in the specialty corner of places like Blue Moon Camera (it's actually cheap too - when not out of stock) and a DIY processing kit is available too. I am not affiliated with any of the brands but it was the Scala film and not Photoshop that killed my darkroom in the early 2000s...

Yeah, there’s so many excellent movie examples shot on this film (Paper Moon is another one). XX is my favorite BW film - I probably have shot more HP5 because the higher speed is more agreeable to gray Ohio, but XX remains my favorite.

Like @joemihaly says, these shots are the BOMB! I just love this series of images. The piggy, the AmVets building and the tracks stand out but they're all good. Good to know this film lacks the remjet layer, excellent for home developing.

I remember you had a show saying how you should take photos of your loved ones because they may be all you have one day. You use your family as your models so no worries there. One year I had a very strong feeling I could not shake. It was for about a week or so around christmas time 2007 and it was to take photos at Christmas time. I thought someone was going to pass away. So at Christmas I took photos of my family. I took enough. Not thatmany. So I thought something was going to happen to my nephew . He was 4 at the time. But it was my step father. He died in May of the next year.

I’ve been a big fan of xx for a while now. My #1 tip when ordering from any of the resellers is to just pay attention to what you’re buying. Seems simple enough….unil you don’t realize you just bought rolls of 24 instead of 36 lol I made that mistake once, won’t make it again

What's your favorite cinematic bwxx film? I have always loved the cinestill bwxx , the blacks and contrast were always different- but I never shot other cinematic black and white films!

I’ve used 4 different versions of XX and they’ve all performed the same (as I would expect). Some have had 24 exposures, some 36. Some have had DX coding, some have not. I tend to prefer 36 over 24, and I like the DX coding, so this film (Coimbra) and CineStill’s are both good choices in that regard.
