I switched and agree the eye AF is better… I forgot I switched it and was marveling at how well it was picking up the eyes and wondering if there was some sort of machine learning going on and then I remembered the recommendation and that I switched it. I have my U3 and the PSAM set to 12-Bit and U1 set to 14-bit. In fact, for U3 and PSAM I turned off all the different things that might cause the processor to bog down like vignette, distortion, diffraction, show settings in live view etc. etc. I also used the uncompressed 12-bit so that there was just one less thing to do with the file…

I'm going to post this whenever I see someone whining about AF 😆 Best camera I've ever used. Great vid, thanks! Re: 14-bit - It adds some range / depth at ISO 400 or lower. Once you're OVER 400, it doesn't really matter and you're better off in 12-bit for the added fps performance. Note that the ISO 400 cutoff is for Nikon - other cameras range from 200 to 640.

12bit NEF for sports is great, thanks for the tip typically not looking for HDR type shots for fast moving things. Turn it back to 14bit if you're doing landscape, really helps when you're manipulating skies etc.
@erichramone78123 жыл бұрын
14 bit is more detail (shades of color) “dynamic range”, quite a bit more information too. Look 12 bit is fine for most of our stuff since a lot of it gets thrown out in post processing but dynamic range is what makes pictures in a pro camera blow away pictures from a phone. Your right I discovered that trick when I got my z6II on accident. I was looking too speed up my FPS in tracking and I turned it too 12 bit orJPEG and it absolutely made a difference during continuous autofocus and tracking.

I’m glad I found this video. I started my photography journey two years ago, and I’m currently using the D500. I shoot motorcycle photos as well, especially action shots. I’ve been on the fence about picking up a Z6II for just about everything including action photography. So replacing my D500. However, I heard and seen reviews about how the Z6II wouldn’t be good for it, and I should stick to what I have or switch brands. After seeing this review I know I can do now as well! Great review, very helpful, and informative.

Hey Jasin, good video on the Z6ii. I have a Z9 and D5, but am cautiously moving to completely mirrorless and wanted a third body for my sports photography. I had a lot of trepidation in buying a Z6ii based on many other videos that basically wrote it off as an action and sports camera. The settings you include here regarding 12-bit versus 14-bit, I haven't seen from anyone else. Thanks, I look forward to using my new Z6ii as a secondary sports camera when it comes in the mail in the next few days.

If you're photographing birds in flight, 1/1500 works the best. If you go slower, the pattern of the feathers on the bird's wing are blurred. But, I take your point on shooting slower for most subjects.
@JasinBoland2 жыл бұрын
My buddy who shoots only BIF say 200-4000 is best except in the rain and snow then you want to drop the shutter.
@4CardsMan2 жыл бұрын
@@JasinBoland Believe it or not, I used to photograph seagulls in flight from a moving ferry with a Hasselblad 501 C/M and 350mm lens, at its maximum aperture of f/5.6. The feathers were always blurred when photographing with the leaf shutter maxed out at 1/500. But when I acquired a 203FE, I was able to go up to 1/2000, so I used the fastest shutter speed that would work at f/5.6, and still render some detail in the brightest feathers using Portra 400 NC. Based on the comments here, I probably could have stopped down to f/8 and used a slightly slower speed.
