Hey there, fellow Mamiya Instax shooter here. I built my own Instax Mini back using a Lomography LC-A+ Instant back and absolutely love it. I do miss the larger image area of Instax Square, and my back doesn't have a darkslide unfortunately, but it does fit very cleanly along the lines of the camera body and the film is hella cheap when bought in bulk so I'll take it.

I especially like the instax wide because its even larger and costs the same / less than the square one, got an instax wide camera modified to take mamiya Press 6x9 lenses by a cool dude from the us who sells those for very reasonable prices, definitely the cheapest way, especially since I don't have a rz / RB 67

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I believe the medium format look is the compression of a longer focal length combined with a wider field of view of a larger negative. Not the blurred background. Even stopped down medium format shots look different to 35mm. What are your thoughts?

You have to take a shot with the sun in the frame to see something totally weird. Instax film is one of the rare modern films that can actually solarize with very little overexposure.

No, you'll need an instax square camera that has been modified to mount to your camera. If you've got an fp-100 back collecting dust that you want to use, you can get new film by OneInstant, but it's nowhere near perfect and at the moment it's sometimes more expensive than just buying expired fp-100.
