The reason he really sold it is because all the film youtubers only have one mamiya 7 they share and it was William Verbeeks turn. Don’t worry georgie it will be yours again in 6 years time.

As a more casual, still walking around type photographer it will always be for me. I've always wanted to say as someone who hasn't missed a video on this channel and have rewatched some videos what feels like a hundred times, i will always be thankful for your transfer of love for this camera. i am sure i would have found it along the way, but it will always be tied to the older walking around videos and wanting to make nice medium format photos like yours when i only owned a cheap 35mm camera. cheers to the rz67 journey

Haha seriously? NF does not dictate the camera market that much. There are literally 1000's of photographers using the Mamiya 7 system with 1000's of incredibly talented and influential shooters using it ; because its is one of the best 6x7 ever made. Prices will forever go up as there is a finite amount that exist.

I know people say cameras are tools but I think they should be seen as instruments. Musical or surgical either works. Taking a picture takes practice and a tool doesn't quite cover it.

Disagree. The camera is a tool for acquiring images, a lens for the light and the camera is a box for the film. The instrument is your brain and eyes and all the things you have experienced. Photographs are projections of what is in our minds when we see it in reality.

Jamie Windsor's is really good. The problem is that most viewers fixate on gear because they want the quick fix, rather than to be told they need to practice to get better, so channels that pivot to non-gear videos lose viewers. And even the channels with tips are often trying to just drive people to their website to buy prints

I started my journey with photography with the RB67 - a jem, never dying, don't require batteries... When I discovered the Mamiya 7 - it was a dream to use and carry around. I'm keeping them both, especially for documentaries where you have to travel abroad with restrictions on the weight of the luggage, mamiya 7 saved me numerous times. Don't need a tripod to save your shoulders as well. :)

He has a good point. George is not the photowalk guy anymore. He has climbed that mountain and wandered the meadows. I dont blame him as I'm glad his work is more focused on commission in which an RZ67 used to dominate back in the day. A camera that breeds casuality is a setback to shoots centered around deliberation.

I have been shooting film for 40 years and own many of the cameras which are currently popular. Thank you for your message, too many people are gaining popularity and influence because of the camera badge and worst still gain the sponsorship of even the biggest of names. Yet these are rarely ‘great’ photographers, much is just old hat. If you shoot great pictures and you use an M6 or an RZ67 then so be it, that’s because your a great photographer and you have proven you can create quality output without relying on the kudos of a brand. Credit due fella.

I actually needed this video. I also used to take photos walking around my neighborhood all the time and have slowly stopped doing that. I've been thinking that something must be wrong deep down because of this. But you're right, maybe I've just found what I actually want to shoot. It was a valuable exploratory phase that's come to an end (for now). This video also made me realize that I should just accept that film isn't really for me, at least not most of the time. My Sony A7II is the camera that makes it easiest to get the result I desire. It feels like an extension of me. Film, as much as I love all its trapping, texture, and toys, just feels like pulling teeth. For some fun, novel purposes (documenting an outing with friends is a great example) I love it, because it stays out of the way and my Olympus XA gives me great shots and fits in a pocket. For the stuff I really care about, digital is the way to go. Thanks for making this. For a variety of reasons, I don't think most people would have.

I'd love to get a medium format camera with a removable back, but I couldn't bare to part with my Mamiya 7ii which I'm using a lot again. I bought it about 5 years ago, hadn't used it for a few years and a few months ago out of curiosity (assuming they'd depreciated a lot in price and had done a fair bit of dosh on something I wasn't using) looked up on Ebay to see what they were selling for and was pleasantly astonished that they were going for well over double what I'd paid for mine. So I thought I'd better start using it and loving it.

The lust for gear is what entices a lot of people to film photography. Most of the youtube or instagram 'photographers' focus so heavily on the gear. Leica this, Mamiya that. Photography is about creating images, be it fashion, reportage or whatever, its all still art. The goal is to make people think and feel or to take images you like to look at, regardless of what others think. Its refreshing to hear someone, who has been gear focused have the realisation that the camera is just the tool the creative eye uses to make art. Use the camera that is right for what you want to do..... or, maybe use the camera which is wrong for what you want to do and see what happens.

@Kupka24084 жыл бұрын
I made a similar decision last week: I sold my Mamiya 645 (which was my only medium format camera). As much as I wanted to shoot photographs with a medium format camera, I just did not like using that much. It is big, heavy and slow which unfortunately doesn't really fit my style of shooting. Somehow I also realized that I prefer the 35mm look when shooting film. The cameras I was using the most for the past four months were my Olympus AF1 point & shoot and my Fuji X-Pro2. Sounds kind of weird but the result I got with my Mamiya were ''too clean'' for me so I did not really saw a reason in using it, as I can have pretty similar results with the X-Pro2. Now I am using my Olympus and sometimes my 90s Canon EOS 10 for film photography and the Fuji when I want to get more detailed, cleaner images. I can definitely say that you are absolutely right with what you said. I bought the Mamiya because of the hype on YT somhow and I wanted to find out if this was also for me. Shooting with a tiny point & shoot and a digital camera might not look super trendy or ''professional'' but the Olympus AF1 and the X-Pro2 are just the best tools for me.
