Likely American Walnut, most assuredly Not Black Walnut.

Hey from NZ! Just bought one of these havent shot it yet. love your presentation, loads of interesting stuff and a good history of the gun which is why i bought mine. Be great on goats and Wallaby as well. no hassle to take shooting!

You have the Carbine Saddle Ring version with the flat butt plate and forend barrel band. Have the same rifle ... but... in the Short Rifle version with Cresent Butt Plate and Fore end Barrel Cap.Mine shoots 38s and 357s without issue and can even mix and match them... great ejection no matter which. The action is buttery smooth and reliable... great rifle...!!

I have the same High Grade Competition 1873 model in 357/38. Beautiful rifle with regard to fit and finish unfortunately mine would jam on extraction pretty consistently when the lever is worked with any vigor. So I returned it to the closest authorized service center and they confirmed the issue and diagnosed an out of spec carrier. After trying to rework the carrier that only made it worse so they forwarded the rifle to their primary service center in Missouri. They decided to just send me a new rifle which I received last week. Still need some time with the new rifle but extraction is much better but still not perfect similar to your experience in the video. Interestingly I have some commercial ammo with approximately the same overall length that you could only load one at a time. These rounds functioned okay in my first rifle but will not function in the new rifle they must loaded one at a time.

Interesting. I'll have to spend more time on this rifle.

I have this rifle also, it would do the same thing, I put about 400 rounds through it over 2 range trips and it is working flawlessly with .357, .38 still jams maybe 2/10 shots but it gets better the more you shoot it, at least mine did

Don’t wrap the saddle ring with leather. I did that to my 94 and it caused rust underneath.

Beautiful rifle. Very handy. Too bad they’re so expensive!
