For anyone that's interested there was a British TV show made in the mid to late 90s which featured a Nock volley gun, the show was called Sharpe, it followed Major Sharpe and his men during the Napolenonic period, it was quite entertaining although a bit lacking in the budget department. I'm sure you could find it on KZbin..

It may have been possible to use a few of these in a boarding operation . Loading a few for one use , to cover sailors as they jumped up to board an enemy ship . It's just an opinion from my perspective, but a use of these on a one blast volley or two might have given effective cover to an assault party as they began to cross to an enemy ship .

To be fair, the concept of Volley guns, multiple barrels in a single weapon were not a new idea when Nock made his guns. Multi barreled Volley Guns have existed since Guns were first developed. Even in the Middle Ages when Knights and Castles were still the Norm, Volley guns were all the rage on the medieval battlefield.

So, how do you know all barrels fired? if you were only to see six hits on the target, how do you know all barrels fired and one ball missed the target and not that you had a misfire in one of the barrels and it did not fire? Or in actual use, did the shooter have to run the ramrod down each barrel to see if all were empty before reloading? Or could you just double load in the event of a misfire.
@CodeRed001
@CodeRed001 Жыл бұрын
That was one of the big issues with this gun. If a barrel didn't fire and you accidentally double loaded it wasn't good. I have no clue how you would check in a hurry. My guess is they would drop a ramrod into the barrel and measure each barrel. If one barrel showed the rod wouldn't go down as much as the rest then probably a bullet didn't leave the barrel.
@mungo7136
@mungo7136 Жыл бұрын
@@CodeRed001 You did so anyway in loading process, thus in that case you had to worry about double-load. That would be my other concern - unless you have nerves of steel, in the battle it is not going to be that easy to grant that you do not skip one barrel and double-load another one. More somewhere high in the masts of the rocking ship covered in clouds of blackpowder smoke when main battery down made complete volley.
