I still own my 98 Civic LX automatic. I bought it when I was 19 and I'm now 40. It's my first and only car and it STILL runs great! 172,000 miles.

@@melvinalmario6395 When you buy one make sure you get one that is or as close to stock as possible. Civics, accords, and integras get a bad rep cause they don't cost much and idiots buy them and do the dumbest things possible to it. Also some but definitely not all civics from late 90s and early 2000s had issues with the automatic transmissions. These cars are the cockroaches of the road, you just can't kill them. Regular maintenance and these cars last forever. Lastly again, don't buy a modded one. People with those run the hell out of them and it's not a headache you want to buy.

@averyalexander2303
@averyalexander2303 Жыл бұрын
@@j92_ek If it was well maintained, there really is no limit to be honest. I recently bought a 1997 Civic with 353,000 miles on the original engine and transmission and it drives amazingly well. When I had the engine apart to change the head gasket the idiot I bought it from blew less than a month after he got it by leaving the radiator cap loose, the cylinder walls still had the original honing marks from the factory despite overheating so bad it melted the timing covers off! I got lucky because it was owned by a Honda tech since new and he took amazingly good care of it until he passed away and his family sold it to a dumbass, but fortunately he didn't have it long. So don't worry about the mileage at all, just find the nicest one you can that seems to have been maintained the best and take good care of it👍

I see nothing wrong with civics, it's just the idiots who don't know how to customise them correctly, but even then it's their car and their choice what to do to it.

I had 98 EX 2 door with 5 speed manual trans that I bought low miles used and proceeded to drive forever. Talking 15 years 200,000+ miles to bring it up to nearly 300,000 total. I honestly did sloppy maintenance, jiffy lube pennzoil oil changes no sooner than every 5,000 miles and changed the timing belt late. It was the most trouble free car I've ever owned. I was so sad when I lost it in a divorce because I know if I still had it I'd still be driving it everyday. The only thing wearing out was the interior, everything worked as it should, even the AC blew cold(ish). It was even plenty sporty if you drove it like you stole it, which it didn't mind one bit. Best car I've ever had in my 30 years of driving and owning cars!

I think thats because you guys dont get the type r version of civics, I could say the same about lancers or imprezas they are slow and boring unless they are wrx or evo they are just like a civic, but even in a civic they have double wishbone suspension front and rear, they are good handling car compare to the same level impreza, corolla or lancers

I love how people categorize these older cars as a “first car”. I’m 36 and currently am financing a new truck because of my work but I also want a commuter car and am looking at late 90s, early 2000s Hondas and Toyotas. I don’t want to go buy another new car. For what? Reputation and vanity? If it works well and looks decent, I’m gonna drive it.

first ever time i learned how to drive a 5 speed manual no fucking joke just now got done with my first ever time I got in that driver seat burned the clutch just a little bit but when I started getting the hang of it I wanted 5th gear so badly but my buddy 17 said naw man you cant I mean its possible but your not ready for 5th yet but being the bad ass that I am i shifted through all gears quickly with no trouble other then the constant engine dying and me forgetting to engage the clutch id say i did pretty well because if you ask me everY car is different but my friends 98 is a v4 and runs better then ever i was shifting fast because i love speed and when i took her through the gears properly she let me know that as a old girl the car she still had some fucking speed in her she may be old but this car lets ya know its not fucking around that's for dam sure none the less I'm very pleased as a 17 year old driver myself with the experience so yea it was hellah fun the car kinda spoke out to me and said I'm right for you and you'll love my gears lol honestly i used to be very scared trying to match speed when engaging now i just look at it as go fast and when you have the chance after slowing down go for it or you missed your chance and might as well stay in gear its all about timing baby you can go fast but once you engage the clutch its fuck it or go and for me as a person who drove an automatic mini van it was easy for me hellah but one thing that i loved was the fear the speed the true ability to feel something all this time I've been in boring ass automatic cars but something like this id happily take to work daily even got to smell the clutch just a little bit you know when your burning the clutch when you notice that smell and its very common and easy to recognize none the less i might just get the same car as my friend no joke if i get a 5 speed ill happily drive it but only until i can drive other manual cars the whole point of this car is that its the easiest thing i can manually drive meaning i dont want just any manual car for something that spoke out to me and said your right for me it sure as hell is my car plus if you have a 2 door the doors look so sick not gonna lie it has that racer look going on and sure you might technically have 6 gears but in all reality 5 because 6th is meant for backing up you cant just use that gear whever you want and should really only use it when your trying to turn around as thats the whole point of that gears purpose never use a gear that isnt intended for a certain use only use gears that are actually useful not saying it isnt just going foward is important XD

One thing you have to remember about these Civics is that they're expensive to insure. I believe they're the most expensive car to insure. So it has great fuel economy, but cost of ownership may be the same as an old V8 land yacht (Town Cars and Vics), depending on the mileage you drive per month and the insurance rates in your State. I'd argue that those land yachts with their low resale value and good reliability are better first cars. They come better equipped, including the P71. What do you think is a better first car if you were to buy today? In 10 years? A 98 Civic or a 98 Crown Vic? Cheers.

Not for nothing but the way he talks about civics as a “first car” is kind of wild, Like what about the type R? Honestly Your car the Mazda 3 is a first car. The Mazda three is literally held at the same rank as a civic if not less so because nobody cares about Mazda 3s as much as Honda Civics. You must’ve gotten beaten by a civic to slam on them like this, I watch the channel but for someone to hold a name down but than drive a Mazda 3 is kind of wild. Like you’re a car enthusiast but not customizing the Mazda at all? You went from an RX7 to a Mazda 3. Bruh. The Mazda 3 is a first car. Hands down and no one will disagree.

Old video, but I completely understand how people want to stand out from the crowd with civics. But the reality is that the civic is affordable. I grew up in a low income “ghetto” part of town and everyone who was in the car culture was able to buy a civic because it’s affordable. Anyone could share the experience of the car culture when you can afford a civic.

Can't stand when people say yea it's still just a Honda Civic. Who cares. They can be super dope if you have good taste and know how to build them into a nice JDM car. No need to make them fast. Making them handle good is what makes them exciting and fun to drive. You are still a kid and a poser in the end of the day talking out your ass. Oh, if it doesn't run 9's why even bother building a Honda... NOOB you got a lot to learn about cars. Throw on an intake and have fun, that's what it's all about.

Disagree. There is more than one type of manual. What about an older car with 3 speed column shift (3 on the tree)... that's also a manual. There's more than one type of manual transmission, there for "stick shift" is a more specific term and it's certainly not "wrong" to call it a stick shift. Your insistence that it be called a manual just makes you sound like an ignorant douche.

They're reliable af, and newer ones come with soooooooo many creature comforts for next to no money comparatively. I went from a 2012 Eco Civic to an FRS. I seriously miss my heated seats and mirrors (Canada, winter), and the sunroof. Newer ones have all the lane departure stuff, cameras everywhere, sensors, etc. They really are the best bang for your buck you can buy car-wise. No, people won't rubberneck at your car unless they're really into Civics, no, you won't beat things... But you won't do those things, while being very comfortable.

Ima pull a Mr. Regular here: 1998 Honda Civic - The official car of a street side thug wearing a bandanna over his face and a black hoodie, sagging jeans and scuffed jays, shooting another street side thug of a similar attire with a sideways turned Glock 17, in an alley way in Detroit, in the middle of the day, over a bag of what's supposed to be cocaine but is actually just a bag of flour and baking soda.
