As an owner of a 2021 CX5 GTR it's well worth the turbo. I came from a '19 GT w/pp and what a difference. You won't regret it and it'll age better having a more powerful engine since your thrill will be satisfied for a while. The newer tech from Mazda is also a plus loving that widescreen.

The non-turbo 2.5l engine will definitely last longer hands down. Also the transmission will last longer with non-turbo. If you you plan on trading it off before the turbo engine accumulates to many miles it will be fine to own, but if you plan on keeping it till it dies then non-turbo is the way to go. It's really just common sense a turbo puts more stress on the engine.

@@nicksrandomviews1296 when I said age better I was referring to the appeal of having a more powerful engine and not physically lasting longer but that is good to know. I won't keep mine mine long though. However I need to stop trading in so soon and let the vehicle accrue more miles and get my full money's worth.

@@denziiey yes it would definitely be more fun to drive and I personally trade them off near a 100,000 miles since typically after that is when you start to run into more serious issues.

@@nicksrandomviews1296 how do you know the turbo engine will not last as long as the no turbo? Are you a mechanic? Have you owned both and can verify the non turbo lasted longer? Consumer Reports rate the CX5 as one the most reliable vehicle in its class regardless of engine. They also rate the cx9 as very reliable and it has had the 2.5 turbo since 2016. I realize your post is just an opinion but you might want to back it up with facts if you’re trying to talk people out of a certain vehicle.

Great review. I recently purchased a 2021 CX5 (non-turbo). I'm very please with this car. Has all the features I want. Excellent value. Happy to be in the Mazda family now.

Test drove the Turbo and NA before I got my CX-5 and it was really night and day difference. If you really don't value fuel economy as #1 and you want a sporty and fun car i 100% think the turbo is worth it. I personally got a Carbon Edition Turbo so I got it at an even cheaper price than buying a GTR. Most people I talk to who test drive both and go with the NA end up regretting not getting the turbo, sure the NA is okay for everyday driving but eventually you will want more fun out of your car. Every time I drive and use my turbo it brings the biggest smile on my face

It's a detail but per Dave Coleman in another video, the Turbo doesn't have an octane sensor but uses the knock sensor to pull the power back when pre ignition is detected.

I went from a 2019 GT to a 2021 GT Turbo. I agree with your opinion on the Turbo. The gas mileage takes a hit and the 187 HP was more than adequate for normal driving. Paddle shifter are nice to have but I don't really use them. I think the naturally aspirated was quieter. Still a great vehicle though.

The Turbo is for enthusiasts. It isn't about being "adequate." Its about being MORE than adequate. For people like me who wants to feels some G force when we stomp on the gas.

To play video you start the vehicle and engage the emergency break and connect to Android auto or Apple car play and it will allow you to play videos but soon as you start driving it no longer works until you completely turn off the vehicle and go back through the previous said steps.

** IF ** you are looking for a 2021 CX-5 with a Turbo 2.5L PLEASE have it looked at by a mechanic. ALL Turbo '21 2.5L Mazda Models have been suffering from oil consumption issues due to the valve guides/seals leaking. There is a Mazda TSB as well as a CA lawsuit that has been filed. Not sure if this was caused by supply chain issues back then? It was during the height of the pandemic. -Note: Some '21 2.5L Turbo models are unaffected at this time, and the normally aspirated ones so far are fine as well.

nice vid and good info. Does the CX5 GTR have floor lighting? I know the Signature has the ambient lights, does this have an option to install, like my Honda Accord has puddle lights on the interior door bottoms. Thoughts? Also I test drove both turbo and non, I def feel and hear engine whine more without turbo.. Noticeable difference, but the gas economy is the big question. Thx for any input on lighting.

From what I have heard, White has less of a chipping issue. My mazda 3 is machine grey and after 40k miles it looks like my car drove through a sand storm with all the rock chips. Pretty color, does not hold up.

@@Mrtellitlikeitis Now that's interesting, one is "uneducated ' because a certain feature on a vehicle gives them some concern. Also, I appreciate your information on the Honda, but we are talking about Mazda. Now the 2018-2019-CX-5 did have a recall tied to cylinder deactivation. Mazda did address the matter fairly quickly and I applaud them for that . None the less it was an ISSUE for Mazda. Good thing is they have addressed it and hopefully it is done.
