This Mazda saved our live in a really bad accident, it’s so reliable and the 2020 and 2021’s air bag and safety features is amazing. When we had an accident Mazda’s huge air bag wrap around inside the car and if the glass get destroyed they made sure it’s not going inside. Really safe and reliable

@@solomons5669 my mazda 3 still going for more than 100k miles... but there were some hickups with the mexican built version I claimed warranty on water pump and the catalytic converter went out on me and needed to be replaced. But i replaced both around 75k miles right before warranty let up. probably because I left my car idle a lot and was car camping while driving saving on hotel bills through the night. did some light road trips as well as van life on some trips. one way to beat up their warranty estimates is by forcing the car to work a bit more than the warranty thinks before expiring and requiring you to repair them. That will force them to over engineer to be past the warranty period. XD I should be good for another 100k miles now with those things replaced. I'm going to replace the transmission oil and break fluid too later when I get the chance.

Just bought the 2021 GT Reserve that comes with the turbo engine, silly high torque, and AWD. This thing is fun to drive-to the point where I prefer taking curvier back roads at every opportunity. The chassis is very balanced and I was initially surprised at how well it cornered for its size. It's fast off the line and on the highway, I feel like power is always there and easily accessible. The interior makes me want to stay in the car longer, honestly. It has a more lux fit and finish than all the other compact SUVs I've recently test driven. There's also a good grouping of niceties offered in this trim level that reinforce the lux feel. Exterior design considerations are beautiful (IMO) and the paint is exquisite (machine gray metallic). It apparently has the highest marks in its class in safety and reliability which offers some peace of mind. For me, the only drawbacks were 2nd row legroom and lack of included service and maintenance perks. The RAV-4 along with the CRV, Tiguan, and Forester were all under consideration. The CX-5 was the only one that I felt I wouldn't regret dropping ~37k on, based on what I wanted in my next vehicle.

I love my 2021 CX-5 Carbon Edition w/turbo and AWD. The main reasons I chose it, is because it has NO iStop (i.e. Engine Stop/Start technology), NO CVT/IVT transmission ( it comes w/ a 6 sp. automatic transmission), and has no Cylinder Deactivation because it's a turbo engine. Out the door, it cost me $34,500. That's including the taxes and cost of the license plates. It has plenty of power (228-250 h.p.), and comfort for me and my wife. My 3 teenage granddaughters sit comfortably in the backseat. My sister-in-law sat in the back seat this past week, and said, she didn't feel the bumps from the road in front of her house. On my CX-5, the projected MPG is only 23 city/27 highway, but I'm completely happy about it because it doesn't have iStop, CVT, or Cylinder Deactivation... all destructive technologies, imho. BTW... Consumer Reports projected Mazda as the most reliable vehicle on the road in 2020, knocking Toyota from the #1 spot.

Just bought a 2021 CX -5 , traded my 2017 Subaru outback, which incidentally I really enjoyed also. I must admit though the CX -5 is an incredible sub compact SUV, it rides like a little sports car , it gives you SUV utility. Mazda really dots the eyes and crosses the t,s on this one. It’s a wonderful vehicle, I just love it so far.

@@pamwarren3367 , Hi there, the outback I had was wonderful on the highway, and it has an enormous amount of storage capacity, it has more storage than the Mazda I just bought the CX five, but if that’s not a huge concern to you, I have to admit the Mazda is more nimble, it has a more compact and seamless feel to it when driving, so it all depends what you prefer, they’re both wonderful vehicles, the outback feels heavier and a little bit more slower, the Mazda is far more nimble and has a more compact feel about it. Again the outback holds more than the Mazda does, but for my purposes the CX five is just fine capacity wise. And is a real pleasure to drive.

Toyota makes great vehicles and I have owned several. I think Mazdas are more fun to drive and my 2020 CX5 Signature is my all time favorite vehicle. With regular 87 octane, it still puts out 310 ft pounds of torque and it is so impressive to drive. It puts a smile on my face every time I use a merge lane, so quick to get up to speed. I had a 2015 Mazda 3 GT which was a great little car, I agree with the commentators remarks that the CX 5 handles as well as many sedans because I feel my CX5 handles as well as my 2015 Mazda 3. I had a 2012 Honda CRV Touring , loved the features of an SUV, but the CRV I owned had terrible handling characteristics. With my CX5, I have both, SUV features and fun handling.

Thank you for the video and all the comments. I currently drive a ‘99 Tahoe. These 2 vehicles are on my short list. Great to see the side by side comparison. The Tahoe has such a comfortable ride and it is mechanically sound with only 145k miles but just want something smaller vehicle since most of the time it’s just my husband and I. Many vehicles I had considered were immediately eliminated because the seats were not built to be comfortable on a long trip and many sounded very “tinny” when the doors were closed. I know I can’t expect the Tahoe’s level of comfort in a smaller SUV but seems both these vehicles would be a nice replacement. Thanks again!

Thank you for illustrating the colmparisons so well. I have to declare that I’m a Toyota fanboy as I really appreciate Toyota’s honest reputation for long term reliablity but conservative comfort. Also I haven’t driven either of these. From learning from the video alone, the Mazda seems to be more expensive to run but more fun and quieter to drive. Depending upon whether it is to be used more on long distance driving the quieter ride may be more heavily weighted in its favour. Also note that any sound measurement in decibels isn’t a linear i.e. the Toyota’s extra noise level is louder than the extra decibels might have you believe. I’m not sure how many owners keep their vehicles long term anymore but I’d like to bet that the natually aspired Toyota engine would outlast the turbo charged Mazda’s. If I was buying to keep the vehicle for say, 12 years or high mileage, (400,000 miles) or rough terrain I’d choose the Toyota. However if money, boot space or rough terrain isn’t a prime consideration I would buy the Maxda simply for the enjoyment of driving.

I love how the Mazda says “hold my beer” when most other CUVs give you a pretty forgettable driving experience. I know, “it’s not a sports car, it’s not supposed to be fast” and all that, but I at least wish most or all manufacturers would give you an option similar to the 2.5T just for the convenience of getting up to speed quick. It makes the car much more practical in maneuvering and if you get on a lot of freeway interchanges like I do, it’s a plus. Go Mazda!

The CX-5 actually deserves an extra .5 points for being quieter. Decibels are logarithmic, therefore the noise level of 57.8 dB in the RAV4 is much more than 5% higher than the 55.2 in the CX-5. For example, if you consider sound intensity of the RAV4 at 4 feet away, the CX-5 would be at 3 feet to hear the same sound intensity as the RAV4.

I’ve just started watching lots of videos on compact SUVs. After this video and reading all the positive comments on the CX5, it has moved ahead of the RAV4 which had been on my short list too. @2004cyrus

@@dianas514 I tested the Rav-4 5 times in a couple of months. It is noisy, slow, seems to feel like it’s struggling and unrefined. I wanted to like it but didn’t like the drive at all. So I went to the Venza and I liked it more but it’s still a little noisy and used a CVT which isn’t fun at all but at least it helps with better gas mileage. I had owned and loved 4 Mazda’s that my parents passed down to me. I went over to Mazda and drive the CX-5 and instantly knew it was the best feeling and best Japan built and refined crossover. I bought a white one with white leather- it’s the Grand Touring with premium package which has goodies like heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, heated windshield, heated back seats, heads up display, and much more. I paid $32,000. I bought it on June 29th. I have 3500 miles on it today. I love it!! I’m averaging 26 mpg city and 32-35 highway which I’m fine with. There is plenty of front seat room for tall people. The back seat is a little tighter for 3 tall people. 2 can be okay but it’s not the biggest crossed if you want to haul people. I am single and don’t haul anyone so the back seat is just a place for me to throw my bags and crap. The 6-speed automatic is wonderful and smooth: I have wonderful bright LED headlights that swivel when you turn the steering wheel left or tight. The sound system is clear and crisp with plenty of bass. I have a sliding standard size moonroof. There is a subclass holder. The door pockets are some of the better size ones. The glove box does not have a light which is weird but there are bright overhead (map) lights that provide light. I would recommend the Volkswagen Tiguan if you want a comfortable and more smooth ride. Mazda leans sporty. Seats on Tiguan have more bolstering which is nice. And the cargo area and 2nd row seating is much larger if those are important factors for you. The Tiguan has a turbo engine in it. The gas mileage is similar and the transmission has 8 gears. Both are excellent offerings but I’m only 25 and wanted the smaller and sportier driving Mazda. Japanese usually lasts more years with less issues than German and since I read that you may keep this car 10 years or something that’s a factor that puts Mazda in the winning category by the vast majority of mechanics opinions

@@2004cyrus Thank you soooo much for your reply!! In addition to our '99 Tahoe we have a '07 Chevy Express Van we bought new. It only has 66K miles. It's a 3/4 ton so if we need to haul anything at all we have that. Since we have a Tahoe and the van and had Blazers back in the 70s and 80s and a Camaro in the 2000s I looked at the Trailblazer. Very disappointed. Seats were uncomfortable, didn't have a nice ride and seemed cheaply put together. I also had a '99 VW Bug that I initially loved but it seemed every time I turned around something else went wrong with it mechanically. Reached a point where I said enough is enough. Almost traded it in on a Passat but our friends had nothing but problems. I like the look of the Tiguan but have concerns about VWs. Greatly appreciate your input. I have the 2020 Rav4 Hybrid Limited here in Canada. Built in Canada too. Way better gas mileage. No Gas issues as of yet and it doesn't come with the skylight moonroof due to the tooling in Canada. Mazda was pricier here. Canada's top model besides the Rav4 Hybrid Limited is the Rav4 Prime XSE. Mine has Heated and vented seats, Digital Dash not shown on the one you drove. Birds Eye View camera's, More horsepower, handsfree tailgate, Digital rearview camera, Ambient lighting, rain sensing wipers, remote start, Heated rear seats, Safety sense works flawless cause I tested it with pedestrians rear and front, and just love the adaptive cruse control - should be standard on all vehicles. Lastly, Toyota's hold their value! My next purchase will be a Rav4 Prime XSE with the technology package when they arrive later this year. It will also have adaptive headlights too! I personally like the looks of the Rav4 better. Oh, btw I also had a 2018 CRV LX. Loved this vehicle but it had gas in the oil issues which gave higher than normal oil levels and you could smell gas fumes inside the vehicle. I had it repaired at Honda under warranty but the problem continued with no resolve so I got rid of it. I don't trust the turbo's.

You would be lucky to drive 250 miles on one battery charge. I can drive over 500 miles on one tank of fuel. Also, since I drive less than 3,000 miles per year, you probably buy more fuel than I do in a year. And when replacing that battery, I hope you're ready to spend up to $6000 on a new battery when it goes bad, and that's not including the labor costs. Also, a hybrid doesn't handle well on the road.

They are machines and can break down of course but these don’t leave anyone stranded on the side of the road. That’s Chrysler Alfa Romeo jobs

Great comparison. I like the tally, but of course the final score is not as important as the direct comparison of the cars in each of your categories. Because you guys are so thorough, it definitely helps me compare them to each other, and frankly, to other cars that I might be interested in. For instance, I may pick a Nissan Rogue over both of these if I felt that the CVT wasn't a big deal, but my biggest need was a panoramic sunroof. So keep on doing the comparisons. You probably won't be able to compare everything but it should be enough for folks to make a better decision on which cars they need to test drive, and which ones they would dismiss out of hand right away.

The Nissan has the worst CVT transmissions. They're planning on changing some of their cars from CVT into automatic transmissions in 2022. So, Nissan don't even like their CVTs. BTW, the panoramic roofs are heavier, and causes the vehicle to be more top heavy, giving it worse handling abilities.
@Briguy1027
@Briguy1027 3 жыл бұрын
@@onlyhuman2015 You weren't paying attention. Your concerns of course will affect the final score. I was saying that since they have so many categories, it's easier to decide on a car. Some people have to have a panoramic sunroof. I personally don't like them, it was just an example. If a panoramic sunroof is a must it's easy to remove a car from your list of cars you wish to buy. If a CVT is a dealbreaker then you can easily scratch a certain car off the list.

@God_Laughs _At_Atheists Dude -- you are the biggest CX-5 fanboy in the world. But you forgot to read -- I said IF I wanted a panoramic sunroof then it would be a dealbreaker if one of the cars I wanted didn't have it. I was giving kudos to the makers of the video on how they give out so much information that makes it easier to make a decision. I was using a panoramic sunroof as an example. Personally, I do not like them. Now in regards to the Mazda, I wouldn't buy it because I don't like the gas mileage on the car -- I'm more interested in the efficiency from a hybrid.

@ericclaeyborn7008 2 жыл бұрын
@@Briguy1027 The CVT on the Hybrid means less reliability. And the longer brake time on the much heavier Hybrid doesn't add up to better safety. Because of the added 700 lbs, the Hybrid would handle worse, and even though you wouldn't want a panoramic sunroof, that too, would make the Hybrid more top-heavy, creating another safety issue in handling.
