What a cool car. The wheels look a little oversized (like "yeah I got new wheels and next payday I'm ordering coilovers") but it has a certain charm.

The gears are small, you need big wheels to drive it on the highway without being at a really high rpm

Agreed. I have a 91 Today and after I got it I put 14inch Volks on it, which looked too big on stock suspension. I ended up importing 12 inch Honda City turbo wheels for it and they look perfect.

You can really see the cohesiveness of Honda's design. The Today looks like a smaller City looks like a smaller Civic looks like a smaller Accord hatchback. It's tiny and slow and unsafe on American roads and I'd happily drive one. I'd have one of these in my unlimited money car collection. It's like an original Mini in that every inch of space is used. JDM prices have gone through the roof and the interesting or clean ones have already been snatched up so the only bargains are in boring, well-used cars like this. Might I make a suggestion? Most two-doors are designed to have the back seat accessed through the passenger side. Might be a little easier to crawl in and scoot over from that side.

You can def do better for the money than a Honda Today. For similar money you can get an Alto Works, Mira TR-XX, Minica Dangan ZZ, or even a Honda Beat and all have way more horsepower and much more interesting interiors. All of those can also manage highway driving without screaming at redline.

I have a Today and my friend has an Alto Works which I've driven a lot. Both are fantastic cars, the Alto for the power and the Today for the handling. The Today feels planted and safe. On the twisties you run out of courage before you run out of handling. It's a lot better than my Miata. Either one can do highway speeds without overrev.
