It takes skill to drive a viper like it did when you drove a late 60's muscle car.

If you drive it with your brain, instead of testosterone, it's actually fairly easy to drive.

I sold my 2004 in '16 because I just never used it. In Florida the interior would cook you alive with the top down and it was claustrophobic and sketchy with it up. Then why even drive it? Even then it was the worst experience in inclement weather for a multitude of reasons. It wound up being almost exclusively a winter vehicle. When I sold it it still had the tires that were on it when acquired in 2008. It wasn't a money pit and I did several mods that weren't performance enhancing. For awhile I was on the fence about a replacement (silver again) but the prices shot up quite substantially. My Bucket List included a drive on The Tail Of The Dragon with it but that was fulfilled in 2018 in a rented Cadillac XTS. Now that I am engaged with a kid the 2 seater dream may not be revisited. My 2004 Mercury Marauder (bought in 2005) only has 57k miles so my taste for a 500 horsepower car will be satisfied with the installation of a supercharger. I like your driving review.

I think the biggest flaw with the viper was the fact that it was priced into Supercar territory. They should’ve kept the Plymouth prowler as an entry level, v8 powered, analog grand-touring roadster to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Thunderbird. Let the Viper compete with things like the Ford GT.
@colinschmitz82977 ай бұрын
While I like the idea of Plymouth having made a car that competed directly against the Corvette, I have to ask what super car was available at the price of $83,000 in the mid-2000s? The cost of a Ford GT was nearly $150,000 during that time. The Viper was reasonably priced for what it was.
@BRAINFxck107 ай бұрын
Nah the biggest flaw is the V10...personally I love the V10 but most Americans would've preferred a V8 it would've been easier to drive, cheaper, and sound a little better.
@wigletron28467 ай бұрын
@@colinschmitz8297the Viper competed with super cars for half the cost. I think the issue was build quality, parts bin cheapness, etc. I'm not spending 85k to get Dodge Neon interior bits.
@colinschmitz82977 ай бұрын
@@wigletron2846 if that is your priority more power to you. For what it's worth, the Ford GT used Ford parts bin parts. I've heard modern Lamborghini uses VW corporate parts. I don't see how window switches, vents, and radios matter. The platform is unique, the engine is unique, most of both the interior and exterior are unique. Those parts bin parts are not going to cause the car to fall apart randomly if you drive it like a sports car.

Sharing parts with minivans, neons, and other ordinary vehicles is a good thing especially after the vehicle is out of production. It makes finding parts much easier and much less expensive. Besides nobody buys a sports/supercar over window switches and interior vents. They work fine and they help to keep the vehicle's cost down. It's just something that people in media nitpick about. Also remember that the Ford GT has not been in continuous production during this time. It comes and goes.
@Mirage8v7 ай бұрын
Fully agree, TVR made a massive amount of their own CNC aluminium interior bits. Those sold even worse, so that wasn't the clue. I for one am glad with the parts commonality, because the uncommon parts are ungodly expensive at the moment (headlights for example).

Cool car and a unique color. Vipers are all about the power, not so much the interior. Carroll Shelby wanted the Viper to be a modern Cobra. It seems like every few years, Chrysler's executives and engineers get together with a bunch of powder and make something wild like this or the Prowler or the Dakota convertible. It's a shame this car can only be driven on sunny days. I really don't see the point of blacking out the windshield and windows when the roof goes down. Just wear sunglasses and a hat.

So yeah, less fire-breathing Lambo and more "MURICA FUK YAH" grunt.

@@colinschmitz8297 - At least Viper had the balls to slap a gas guzzling V10 in something when the economy was going into its beginning stages of current soft guy era. @@RustyZipper I agree. I respect Chrysler for going with a large V10 offering leaving much room for aftermarket modifications (Hennessy more than doubled it to 1100 if memory serves correctly). My only regret is that they didn't actually offer it in civilian versions of the LX cars. There was a brief package where they offered it in the Challenger but that was not street legal. My point is it could be done. That would have really been awesome.
