I had one of these many years ago. When we were getting ready to leave the Chevy dealership, after I had traded it in on a new truck, my wife could tell that something was wrong. Admittedly, I was a little teary-eyed because I felt like I was abandoning an old friend, with whom, I’d shared so many good times. I loved that little truck. The one in this video is a beautiful example.

I hear you. When I bought my current car, I was more upset about trading in my 2001 Sable wagon than excited about getting my new one. It was a POS that was falling apart but it had taken me on many adventures and through some sketchy situations. It saw me though college all the way to landing my dream job. I didn't realize how attached I was to that car until it was time to walk away for the last time. To some of us, cars are members of the family.

Ok how about a little respect for those tapes in the console; Midnight Oil(Diesel and Dust I presume), INXS Kick(A classic all killer no filler 80s album!) and Icehouse(another killer pop rock album by an underrated 80s Aussie band!) Owner seems to have a focus on Aussie bands!

This was my dream truck back around this time. At that time I had an 87 B2000 (base short bed 2WD 5MT) that I had bought new that I loved so a bigger, newer, nicer, more powerful version of the same was a natural choice. I even swapped in the buckets and console of a 2WD version at some point. A year or two later my father bought the 2WD version of this truck - LE-5 and all. It served him well for 10 plus years until he bought a Nissan Frontier

I miss extended cab compact trucks with jump seats. They were the perfect compromise for seating 3 or 4 people in a pinch without giving up any bed length or making the truck a nuisance in California parking lots like modern 4-door models often are.

This truck is clean. These non-Ranger-based trucks have a unique and very Japanese style. It's a shame that because of the chicken tax Mazda had to go with a rebadged Ranger that just doesn't look as good. Given modern Mazda's lineup you'd never think they used to sell a very competent compact pickup.

As the proud owner of a 1989 Mazda B2200 Cab Plus, I'm so happy to see them starting to get celebrated like this. Yes, they are fantastically underrated trucks that are always overlooked by the Toyotas and Nissans of the era, but they can hold their own just fine. Keep in mind that this was the last true Mazda truck... everything else that came after it was just a rebadged Ford Ranger. I have owned mine for nearly 20 years and I still love it. Also, side note: the Koito headlamps are original and super rare! What a clean truck.

Very nice, my dream truck if I could find 5-speed B2600i in perfect condition !!! Had Mazda been earlier with fuel-injected B2600i instead of the carbureted, underpowered B2200, this would've been a roaring success; Mazda was super-innovative with its Cab Plus design, but didn't have enough hp with the B2000 and B2200 engines. I drive a very nice 2WD 5-speed 1988 B2200 Cab Plus (since 1994) to which I've added that same 3-spoke steering wheel, the between-seat console (even made a cupholder insert for it), 15" 4WD B2600i wheels, aftermarket Weber carburetor, and bubble hood. Mine is still R-12, Arizona, no rust; my 2004 4-cylinder, 5-speed Frontier with 143hp serves as my B2600i substitute.

Bought my 91' Mazda B2600i, 4X2, regular cab. And to boot, I brought it to Germany and it spent three years on the Autobahn. Due to the lower Hight, weight, and fuel injection, it was unusually fast. Generally could keep about 115 m.p.h. with A/C on. For hours at a time. A bit surreal now.

I would take that Mazda b-2600 any day over anything new today or for that matter made since 2010 forward. This is also what is needed today and no the Ford "over-priced/over rated" Maverick as one comparison example today is not even close.... K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid is something car manufacturers have no grasp of!

I owned a 1987 B2600 that I bought new that year. It cost $12,500. It lasted me a mere 165,000 miles. Rust ate it up. It spent two years in the mountains of NC, then four years in Rochester, NY. I had to twice replace the clutch, one of the rear suspension leaf springs broke and the head gasket went bad. The Mitsubishi carbureted engine was wayyy underwhelming and underpowered. But ultimately rust ate holes in the bed and the rear bumper was destroyed by road salt.

Trivial information in my country we calll those club cabs. Mitsubishi name one of their pickup models by that name or rather it had a sticker on the tailgate proudly saying so. 8:34 also the normal size for other countries, since we don't have the chicken tax. Though I am sometimes envious of the big American pickups. Especially Dodge rams, despite having questionable reliability down the line.

Those japanese mini-trucks always kinda confused me.... It seems like all of them, were trying to be a rebadged Toyota Hilux... They were all pretty much the same car... And I understand that each branded mt has its own fan club, but essentially those are all the same vehicle with small changes... Those Mazda B series were so out of place everywhere they were sold... Even in my Middle Eastern neck of the woods... For some weird reason here, the Mitsubishi L200 (the MightyMax for you Americans) dominated the market of lpts for nearly 4 years before Toyota and Isuzu caugt up... Later, Nissan joined the party with their Winner lpt, but it wasn't too successful here... Also we had some weirder lpts here like the Peugeot 404 and the 504 + Fiat Fiorino with no back shell and some more weird creations from Europe mostly...

@@bldontmatter5319 Yes, im from Israel. Our car market is kinda bonkers... In the mid 80s-mid 00s it consisted mostly out of Japanese and Euro cars... Every few years, another manufacturer would take the lead. Though we mostly got rather crappy trim levels here and bad engine choices... Subaru, Honda and Mitsubishi dominated here for a while along with Renault. From around the end of 90s to mid 10s Mazda dominated... Today its a mish-mash of boring korean fleet cars with a big boom of Chinese electric cars...
