Ford shot themselves in the foot twice. Once, when they equipped the 2012 ford focus with the DCT. Twice, when they stopped producing the focus all together. I have a 2006 ford focus wagon that outlasted my marriage!

Focuses are still made in Europe...On the 4th gen now here, which came out in '18

@@markhealey9409Thats nice to hear it lives on in other markets. Most sedans have been dropped here including the focus which is sad because the hatch and wagon versions especially were super practical vehicles. I say this as an American, but Americans are dumb or at the least easily manipulated by marketing. Millions have been tricked into thinking they have to buy more car than they actually need.

The original Ford Focus will always be my favorite Focus. I love the swoopy, curvy New Edge styling. These cars are so much fun. I still see a lot of these cars on the daily here in the Ohio Valley. I'll always be a fan of these cars. Channeling my early 00's nostalgia once again.

For those thinking about buying a 5-speed focus, one part that goes is the fuel pressure sensor. No one has this part, not ford, not advance, nobody! Am even trying in Europe! My car is LOADED. Heated seat, top radio, all powers, sunroof, everything but heated mirrors. I love the 5 speed, but it screams at 70 mph. Could have used another gear. Am over 115,000 miles on the original clutch. Never any motor work. Until now, the car hasn’t cost me a dime.

No issues, except I hit a couple pot holes, so I got a bubble in my tire. Had to get both sides in the front replaced. Got a sun roof, great on gas, AC ice cold, got a new Sound system touch screen, it's a reliable car for sure.

I've owned two Escorts and two Focuses, all manual transmissions, the first three with the 1.9L CVH and its upgraded variant, the 2.0L SPI, and the one I still have is a Ford Focus ZX3 with a 2.0L Zetec. I highly recommend the 2.0L Zetec over the CVH and SPI motors. Especially the 2.0L SPI version of the CVH motors are notorious for dropping a cylinder 4 valve seat, destroying the motor and making the car not worth repairing. The Zetec is a rock-solid design that has almost as much time-testing as the CVH/SPI, but it performs better (something like 25-30 hp better) and doesn't have that major issue. Zetecs have issues with plastic cooling components (thermostat housing, "manifold" over the radiator) breaking, motor mounts failing, and popping the valve cover gaskets, but all of those things are pretty easy to reach and repair, and the parts tend to be quite cheap. For someone who does their own repairs and is willing to keep an eye on it under the hood, the Zetec Focus with a manual transmission is by far a superior car.

Hey Zack, try to get yourself into a 2012 or 2013 focus with a manual. The same thing is true of those cars- they aren't the best built or the fastest and they are cheaply made, but they just handle crazy well. In 2012 they brought the euro focus to the states, and it had what was, at the time, a revolutionary feature: torque vectoring. See in 2014 the focus St came out and they made the base model Focus have softer, lazier suspension, and though it kept the torque vectoring it was extremely muted, probably to encourage enthusiasts to skip the base model and buy the more expensive ST But the ST has too much power for the front tires, so it will still power understeer if you are reckless. The 2012-13 focuses REFUSE to understeer under throttle. The rear suspension is tight and responsive and the torque vectoring corrals the nose into the turn when you get on throttle. It's like a rwd car in that it rotates better on throttle than off.

The Civic maybe, but a 98-02 Corolla? Yuck. the Corolla was a cheaply built plasticky Fischer Price grade toy until the 2003 model arrived. Now the '03 Corola was world class, truly a baby Camry in style and quality. Even then, I still prefer the MK1 Focus cars for their funky body styles and roomy interiors. My 2002 2.0 Ghia sits on my drive. It was NOT designed cheaply for young people, I have no idea where you get that idea from... [ unless it was Fords position in America, to make them worse than Europe's ] The model you're sitting in is a cheap one, poverty spec with the wrong engine and for America a crappy auto. [ most cars sold outside the USA are manual ] It's not a fair assessment as USA models are almost always, slower and have less extras. This car was designed from the beginning as a 'world car' in the 'family car' sector. [ shrugs and stops watching @ 2:50 ]
