The JVC upscaling is horrendous , so if you plan on watching anything else besides 4k content, for the love of god....turn off the upscaling!!!! also, if you plan on watching 3d movies, plan on buying a transmitter along with the glasses, the JVC doesn't have one built in. Also, the Sony has a longer lamp life, if that is a concern. I would consider test driving the Epson 6050ub in the mix with these two projectors, I went to a Home Theater store and watched all 3 in demo rooms, honestly they were so close in pic quality that it was very hard to tell the diff. between them(they were all calibrated, mind you), even though the Epson is a pixel shifted 4k image. The only way that I could see any differences was on still images and stood like 2 feet in front of the screens

The city buildings scene was impressive with the Sony, the blacks are amazing. I don't know why it is so bright with the jvc... huge difference

Solid comparison but oh pretty pretty please, invest in something that can record in moderately solid 4K.....pretty please..(maybe an AX53?....something...). Or, if actually recording in 4k, perhaps upload in 4k?

Great comparison video. Curious as to how to you got the color format on the SONY to be YCbCr 4.4.4. I am stuck on the lower chroma (4.2.2). Completely stumped.

I read the other day from a KZbin message that the JVC NX5 is nicer looking with the updated firmware. Who knows how much better???..

i had for 3 days jvc nx5. and washed out colors and picture was not acceptable. lack of resolution was factor i returnet projector and getting sony. jvc had good blacks, but thats all no more positives, noise from projector on HDR was too loud even from 3 meters...on LOW ,acceptable. PIcture quality on HDR good, on SDR tragic.... i was unable to calibrate that out... i fixed color inacuracies, but lack of resolution, and blury picture was big nonono.... fw was 3.10.

@@ChristianBungert all sonys black is just dark grey. Finaly i ended with jvc n7. N5 was faulty. N7 also needed autocal calibration to became realy good:)

Thanks for the review, It will be interesting to know how Sony 295es will perform in compare to LG HU810P in terms of 4K HDR Video/Picture quality and crispness (in dark /very low ambient light room on 1.2 gain 4k white screen)? I am facing problem in deciding between these two.

Eventually I compared myself, LG HU810PW picture is way more crisp and colors are too good in comparison to Sony VW295ES. Also HU810 have very good brightness and contrast. I bought LG HU810PW and happy with the projector.

How do you make the Sony VW295ES project a 300 inch size? Does the projector have to be a bit back in order to project 300 inches?

yes There needs to be a huge space to make a 300inch picture. There are projector distance calculators based off of throw distance

Just looking at specs it would seem the JVC should outperform due to the massive native contrast difference.

But in reality sony picture is better. Blacks not so deep..but color acuracy,sharpnes, motion handling on vw570es is superb. Personaly i purchased sony and jvc was returned to dealer. For example if sony line on screen is 1 mm, then the same on jvc is like 2,5 mm.. thats where jvc is bad. Optics is bad compared to sony.

On your opening scene, the whites on the Sony looks completely blown out. The JVC looks much more accurate. Look at the details in the clouds. (Unless you made a mistake between JVC and Sony when pointing at the screen ?).

Firstly the camera used is probably a gopro or similiar, has a fisheye lens. The camera will do it's exposure metering and adjust itself and depending on where the spot is placed. Seems to me that the camera having 2 scene s and it self adjusted against one of them. Unless the camera has been manually set correctly at first, having such comparison will cause one to look worse than the other. The comment of SOny looking more colors seems contrary to the scenes we saw.

I'm not a dealer so I can tell you that the MSRP of the JVC is $1,000 more than the Sony but because of relative availability you can get the Sony for almost $2,000 less than the JVC if you are willing to buy it on the gray market aka a non-authorized ebay reseller. I have done this for my last two projectors and saved thousands but you won't get a manufacturer warranty and you'll have to check it over carefully with a fine-toothed comb before the seller's return window closes. If something goes wrong with mine I'll have to pay to get it fixed. JVC has really cracked down on this so it is very difficult to find one for sale online.
