As a guy named John, this song's a real kick in the face.

i hope someday she records a really stripped-down acoustic (joni mitchell-ish) piano and guitar album.

I hope someday she records a jazz instrumental that back up her 3 1/2 years at Berklee claim. She plays this song in key of C and in her live What Me Worry she plays it in D on guitar even though it was recorded in Eb. It really is hard to believe she went to Berklee.

larry scheller Why would she lie about going to Berklee?

Kenan Eren It's hip and trendy to say that ! I run into people that say that that don't understand music well enough to pass music theory 1 or know what city it's in . Annie doesn't seem to know her theory well and says in one interview she went there for 3 1/2 years and in another for 2 1/2 years . It's been a while but I remember how many years I studied music in college . I believe she went there but not for as long as she says and likely flunked out and not dropped out ......If you're pretty people will believe anything you say ! ....Why do you believe she has ? You seem to have a thing for hot female musicians . Check out Davina and The Vagabonds , she isn't pretty but a better musician and singer in my educated opinion . Annie seems to play all her piano in the key of C but Davina can play in all 12 f'n keys .peace !

Well Annie's main instrument is guitar so I really don't think she cares if she can't play in all of the keys on piano. Second, where do you get the idea that I have a thing for "hot female musicians"? I don't really like using this to back up a point, but I'm gay, so what do I care? Sure, she's cute, whatever. Third, she did drop out of Berklee, because she didn't like that they were gearing her up to be a session guitarist, when she just wanted to write and perform her own stuff. Fourth, sometimes the keys she writes songs in on piano are harder to play on guitar because obviously they are constructed differently, so it is much easier to simply transpose the song. I will check out Davina and The Vagabonds, and I won't care whether she's hot or can play 12 keys on piano, but whether I enjoy her music. Thanks.

larry scheller I very rarely if ever reply to comments on youtube or any other medium for that matter, however I saw this and was left no choice. If you have ever taken Music Theory 1, you should probably understand that there is a difference between Theory and ability to play an instrument. There are many people (singers, come to mind) who have an encyclopedic knowledge of theory, but can not play any instrument at all, or maybe can not play piano, or the instrument in front of them at the moment.Tom Waits has a great quote which ill paraphrase where he says something like "My ignorance of my instrument is what allows me to be creative with it", in terms of why he composes more on guitar now than piano which he is much more familiar with and competent at. Sometimes a skilled musician uses an instrument other than their own "familiar" instrument to take them out of their comfort zone, which forces them to rely on creativity as opposed to all the learned knowledge they have.Wouldn't it show that she has some level of knowledge of theory that she played the song on piano on the album in Eb, and played it on guitar in D, and on piano again here in C. She has the ability to transpose and play a song in multiple keys on multiple instruments. But mostly I would probably gather that in the studio you can attempt a vocal a hundred times until you get it right, so the song was recorded in Eb, which is maybe a little too high for her to sing live in one take and so she transposed it to D, for when she plays her familiar instrument. When she is playing it on her less familiar instrument (though as a pianist myself I would say is definitely competent at it) she prefers to play it in a simpler key so that she can expand upon her playing a little more, because she doesn't have a backing band with her at this point like she did on the album. It is not uncommon for songs to be recorded in one key and performed in another. It is also not uncommon for a multi-instrumentalist to perform a song one way on one particular way, and another way on a different instrument. Heck sometimes a musician will play a song in a different key, just to shake things up. Lastly I believe she studied guitar, and maybe composition while there, not piano, and if you listen to her guitar playing and listen to her songs arrangements, she definitely has a certain level of technical skill above and beyond your average unstudied rock musician.

I'm just happy there are more and more people doing similar videos. I like being able to watch musicians play their music live and raw. It's what makes it so beautiful. I love that you guys are promoting musicians and their music. So thanks and keep up the good work.
