I love Aldi! I live in Mongolia and I can’t imagine there will ever be one here! When we were in the US in 2020-22 for 1.5 years, it was my go to grocery store. It’s one of the first places I want go to when I visit the US.

When I was an employee of Trader Joe’s, we were always told that two brothers owned a popular German grocery store. When Germany was split into East/West Germany, one brother took each side. One brother called his store what would become Trader Joe’s in the states, the other brother named his store Aldi. Now that Germany is unified, they warehouse together and that is why you will often see products overlap. 🤷🏼♀️
@fabienneroure99957 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing the story I thought it was very interesting! Where I live (Canada) we do not have Aldi or Trader Joe's.🌷
@jennifergarman61827 ай бұрын
There is a podcast about this. He says they actually split because one wanted to sell cigarettes and the other did not! 🤣
@kristyh9827 ай бұрын
They’re also not labeled as East and West…in Germany they’re labeled Aldi North and Aldi South. No comment on why the split but we were there in December and can confirm it’s north/south.

Very interesting, I've never known.

That’s interesting because I was told once by a German foreign exchange student a similar story but it was about Aldi and Lidl. 🤷🏻♀

In Germany we have Aldi Nord (north) and Aldi Süd (south). The owner, the Albrecht brothers splited 1961 - one Brother took Aldi Nord and the other Aldi Süd. You also can find Aldi Nord in 9 european countries and Aldi Süd in 10 countries worldwide. "Your" Aldi Logo ist similar like our in the south of Germany - Aldi Nord is different. ALDI means AL -brecht DI -scount. I hope my english is not so bad an my content is interesting for some people. Greets from Germany/ Bavaria 🙋🏼♀️

@bifurcation15317 ай бұрын
It was a lot of fun to see you go shopping at aldi. Actually it is a german shop, and here in germany they are everywhere and almost everyone shops there. The carts with the quarters (actually usually 1 euros) are not only at aldis but almost every grocery store. Did you film the meal prep for the cabin? Would loove to watch it!

We don't have Aldi here in southwestern Ontario, but when I lived in Wisconsin & Indiana, I loved shopping there! It's funny you mentioned going up to the cabin--I've been binge watching your videos (new subscriber), and you had made a couple quick breads you intended for coffee time but the babies ate most of it! Made me chuckle. Hope you have a great time together! Loved seeing your BTS of your photoshoot, great memories to last a lifetime 💛 Thanks for sharing, Addy!

Aldi is German and we have them in all Northern Europe countries. The card thing where you need to use a coin is very normal where I’m originally and we - most of us have a keychain shaped as a coin that fits into the cards you get in all the different grocery stores. Yes - basically all stores does this. When I move over here was very surprised that cards are “free” here in America. Sometimes you can get the same stuff in Aldi, but the Aldi in America has a better selection of cheese and snacks. Thank you for sharing. I always love to see what people grocery shop for. I’m that person lol 😂 ❤

The brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht started the grocery chain together then it be 1960s they had a dispute over selling cigarettes so they split the company in half and Theo Albrecht started Aldi and Karl Albrecht started Trader Joe’s both German grocery stores. Started out as Aldi Sud and Aldi Nord. Then eventually you got the names of today
