I wasn't happy working in my shop, which means I was doing it wrong. In this video I change it up and try to make it more functional. Along the way I take a look at some tools, and the way they can be made better.
Here's the links I mentioned:
The boots I liked eventually:
www.amazon.com/ANDANDA-Punctu...
The bead breaker that works better than my old one:
s.vevor.com/bfP4L7
The fork extensions that I keep bending:

I keep telling myself there are definite advantages to having a well organized shop - but at 87, most of my shop/garage projects are history - I wish I could just could have come to your shop prior to its reorganization, and sit there in an ancient worn out overstuffed chair and drink a beer with you while entertaining you with "sea stories" about doing the valve job on my '47 Buick, or rebuilding the flathead 8 in my '50 Merc, etc. when I was stationed a MCAS Cherry Point, and MCB Quantico in the late '50s, Your videos are the most enjoyable of any I watch, and I wholeheartedly agree with you - If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Just having space to do whatever is all my old man wished for, never had opportunity after I returned from Home after my service to my country, he unfortunately passed away few years back. but while I was home the 7+ years I had the great pleasure of enjoying the days of annoying him, asking him menial help on task I could have easily done myself. I would give anything to have him back to enjoy those days again. Love the Shop and the makeover.

Those boot zippers are pretty common in the fire and ems service. Companies make lace in zippers as you get more lazy with more boots

"As I get older the ground keeps getting further away" so true, so true!!! As someone who's back is like a pack of dry spaghetti, even after multiple back surgeries, all my footwear is either slip-on, or it has zippers, I haven't tied a lace more than once in over a decade. As a side note a lot of elite military and LEO boots are fitted with zippers. You have the laces to get that precise initial fit, but you have the zippers for rapid deployment. It also makes them easier to remove in the even of a foot injury.

Living in Southern California I have experience with swamp coolers. They're nice, but if it's a humid day it's not going to cool anything off. Humidity in the air changes everything. The air coming out of it ends up being the same temperature as the humid air in the room.

Your tremendous effort at organizing, made me look at my shop, and I got so depressed, I went and laid down. I have to work the vertical, where I have big, heavy machines, stacked on other big, heavy machines. I have the material to build a 50 x 40 steel building, and hope to get it done this year.

If you want to improve lighting in your shop, paint the floor white. It helps quite a bit. You can also paint the un-insulated portion of the walls white. Some places that recycle building products have 8 ft fluorescent lights from government buildings, these are usually great for shops. If the place also sells extra ballasts for those lights, buy some because when the ballasts get old they self destruct.

I have the utmost respect for you. I did exactly what your doing now, only a bit poorer. I like you, was motivated by money as to what can do. Watch the can, could or should's, as it will make some sense after I make a fool of myself. I figured like you, spending money is irrelevant to what it will do. If it didn't and I figured it should, the game of modify was on. I got many of my tools from older folks who would trade them to me for work done for them. I actually made one of those bead breakers operated by a drill a huge long time ago.. "before the 'blue tooth" or battery powered tools. Since I never really knew what I wanted to do or be when I grew up, I became the kid that people could take advantage of by getting me to do cheaper than some garage or carpenter or plumber or.... lots of "Or's"! I am a bit older than you as I was born in 49 but (always a but) the town I grew up in was behind the times as in a long way behind the times. I was trying to think of something funny but to no avail. I was busy listening to the election reports given by the town cryer who said that "Lincoln has been re elected" ..... okay even that is hoaky as my whole comment has been given here. I suppose this is about as far as I can get you to notice my comment or take of your time. So said, yes, if you want to show me the rest of your tools and reasons of getting or behind why you built it..... By all means do so. No I can't do anything anymore but once in a while someone will ask me, Hey Morg, how ya fix this or can a person do this..... all that said, my pet peeve is someone asking the same question enough times to make a different answer come out their way. I know one thing for sure tho.... I if still able would dearly love to work out of a shop like yours and I mean yours as to working in the modern shops where each and every person is dedicated to just one thing types of repairs. I actually feel sorry for a person in that rut. If you wish, I will e mail you a idea that I never got to do because of moving or time or money.... always a reason as simple as just forgot to come back to the idea. My idea requires some kind of old rig that can be modified to the max for doing firewood/logging. I am sure tho that your never short on ideas as a long nights sleep for guys like us is four hours in a row
