i suggest you keep the anvil, good quality anvils are damn hard to find and pricey as hell, and if you are interested in metalworking then you should keep it.

festool tools are awesome. worked in a shop where we used a plunging saw with a clamp on track and that thing cut so cleanly you didn't even have to sand it. just the corners as those were super sharp.

Seriously amazing space Johnny - you're living the dream, I'd love to have a shop that size haha, maybe one day!! Seriously though, you've laid everything out really well, sounds like you've got a great workshop flow and your tool collection is phenomenal too! I'm definitely envious of the little perks higher end tools bring, like the digital calibration on the woodpecker pillar drill and welding cart hooks - I can really imagine small things like that removing a whole lot of frustration and making woodworker a lot funner!

Awesome tour! I saw comments about people not being able to follow along with your videos because they can't afford the equipment you have. I noticed you said that many projects you do can be done with common tools. Maybe you could do videos showing one way to do it with your expensive equipment, and then another way using common tools/equipment--sort of like a woodworking version to ChrisFix's youtube channel. This way more people will be able to follow along, allowing you to reach more of an audience. It's more work for you though, so it just depends on how much you value those members of your audience. Most people who have invested in expensive equipment probably know more than a thing or two already 🤷‍♀️
@craftedworkshop
@craftedworkshop 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I definitely do that kind of thing from time to time, and I also try to intermix projects that are simpler overall (the recent planter boxes and patio cooler come to mind). I definitely want beginners to feel inspired by my videos!

Thanks for taking the time to post this tour Johnny, admire your organization very helpful as I work on plans to set up my first shop. Question if I may... did you consider tying your sander dust collection into your shop-wide overhead piping to eliminate the need for the 2nd Festool dust collector? And by extension, same question for your Kapex? I have similar tools and was hoping to be able to connect these to the shop-wide central dust collector. It's just not obvious to me yet what the drawbacks/challenges to doing this would be?
@craftedworkshop
@craftedworkshop 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nelson! I wouldn’t tie my mobile tools to the main DC as it’d be a pain when I’m working in different areas of the shop. Being able to roll around the dust extractor is great. I did have the Kapex tied in but it didn’t work that great with the big cabinet opening. I plan to fix that and add it back to the main dust collector soon.

What an awesome shop! I work with mostly table top Hobby equipment. Nothing industrial-size other than my 12 inch compound miter saw. I truly would love to be able to make my own 360 degree small pin vise. However I have no idea how to make it in four sections where it meets in the middle. I would love to have any thoughts if you can. Many blessings to you and your Channel!

The PVC Collector shouldn't be an issue in my opinion. now I would be concerned if you were using it as an airline between an air compressor and different tools. The suction of the collector is one thing but when you start putting 120psi+ through it that's when it starts to explode.

I am in the process of setting up my woodshop. Originally I was slated to get the same Powermatic jointer that you show in this video except due to it coming as one piece, we could not figure out a way to get it into my basement. A 700lb machine that's 84" x 25 could not make it around 4'x4' landing leading into the basement. So instead we are going with the 60HH 8" jointer. The primary difference is one is dovetail adjustment vs parallelogram on the one you have. Have you used a non parallelogram jointer and would I be better off to locate another company that has a helical head AND parallel, or do you think the 60HH 8" jointer will be just fine? Just curious on your perspective. BTW your shop looks awesome and I want to build the outfeed table as one of my first projects.

I think you'd be fine with the 60HH. My previous jointer, an old Delta, used a dovetail mechanism and I never had an issue keeping the beds parallel. Thanks, good luck on your shop!

What’s the deal with drum sanders?? I’ve always overlooked them if you have a planer already, I don’t see the point in them personally is there something sick about them that im not gettin??

If I need something really precise in thickness I oversize it a bit on the planer then dial it in on the drum sander. Think crib slats or making a lattice. You also then get to skip straight to finer grits when sanding.
