This video was so encouraging to me. I do all my work on an 8x12 porch in a trailer park. Watching people with huge shops and amazing equipment can be a bit of a downer to someone who doesn't even have a shed to work in. Your attitude is so positive and adaptive coming from a huge "dream shop". I look forward to learning a ton from this channel and continuing gaining knowledge and tools! Also, welcome to Denver! I'm just a few hours away in Wyoming. You rock!

Thanks for another of your inspiring videos. To us Danes; the way you set up your workshops as well as the craftmanship, leaves us in the dust :) It`s great to have our big brothers from the US show us how it`s done. All though we have a long proud woodworking tradition, we are not deluded. We are a small country and need to look out the window :) Thanksss

Moving in the near future and building a new “blank slate” shop so I want to do it right! This helps, thanks Tex

We moved out of Phoenix too. It was a great city to live in, but life took us another direction after having kids. In fact, I downsized the shop, some tools, etc. and am quite happy with it. That was my time of excess as well... Hope you enjoy the new location.

Just moved cross country...Setting up shop is always a challenge since we tend to get accustom to our spaces. This one is a challenge, two stall garage, with a post in the middle and the HVAC and water heater are located in the garage. Like yours, one circuit for all electrical in the garage. For lighting, I bought several 4" LEDs from Costco and have them plugged into outlets in the ceiling. As I build out the shop I can move the lighting very easily. Other than that it's just fitting my size 12 shop into a size 6 space.

Great video again! Speaking of strange situations, the space below the outfeed table makes a perfect space for artist/architecture drafting drawers. They provide the perfect place for templates, drawings, hardware, wrench opportunities, etc. They can easily be found on Craigslist from architecture firms getting rid of them as they move towards digital workflow. Thinking maximum linear storage in. minimum square footage

I think I would just wall off the middle double door to start with since it would be so easy with it being set back like that. I know windows aren't good for video but it'd be nice to have a window that could open by the workbench to take advantage of your new weather and not lose the space having to move a wall in over there. Granted it always seems like the actual comfortable weather lasts about 3 weeks each Spring and Fall so it's maybe a little tough to arrange to have that rare extended hand planing session actually line up with a day where you can open up a window.

Its nice too see you settling in Mark. I have been following you since i was on my first deployment with the Marines back in 2009. Then when I got out, i moved to Prescott for flight training, I contacted you way back in the day( it would be cool if you remembered our conversation but if you don't that's fine your a busy guy.) about maybe getting to meat you in person and check out your old shop, but just never did happen, I i had to move back home to raise my kids in Kansas. I then you moved to CO that's awesome. Crazy even. Maybe sometime when I'm in up in Greeley visiting some family i could email you and we could finally meet. I like what you got going on with the new shop. I'm starting on a 14'x24' shop myself so i can get started building stuff. Hi Mark, very cool video loving the new shop layout, I am new to woodworking and my shop is not very big so the plan is to make my shop as usable as possible with the amount of space I have to work with. I have just bought a new table saw and I am impatient to start working with it, but the last few months I have been recovering from ill health and of course the plans I have to start working have been scuppered with my health issues.Hopefully now I'm over the worst so this weekend I'm making a start. I enjoy your projects and I am looking forward to trying them out. All the best and good wishes from over the pond.

Mark, Use some 2x4's to space out the size of the door, call it a garage door protector type and can be removed if need be. use a 2x8 or 10 for the side and a standard 2x4 top plate and studded in between. I say 2x4 assuming your doing R13 or 15 . Serves 2 purposes, gives you stability and security on your garage doors as a brace behind them. I would suggest plywood for easy removal since your moving in 2 years anyway!
@gardeningdianne7 жыл бұрын
I love your workshop tour and I am jealous of the size your your shop. I work in a double garage and have most of my machinery on wheels, all except for my saw and lathe. I have a solution for your saw being held up with bungee cord, if you make the cutouts that fit the profile of each saw handle thicker, you can slice off on the band saw a thin piece that can be added back by using a central screw. This allows the piece to rotate and hold your saw in place. Keep the great videos coming. Dave from Australia

For that awkward space I would lay tracks so the cart of lumber can easily slide in and out. Restaurant Kitchens with limited back room space have these shelves on wheels on those tracked. So do library's in their stack section.

You should attach the cyclone to the wall, put the dust collection barrel on a stand and on the bottom of the barrel make some sort of trap door that can withstand the weight of all the sawdust when it's full, so you can put a box on wheels that can slide into the stand when not in use. Then you can wheel the sawdust out of the shop incrementally!

Hi Mark, I have enjoyed your video's for a long time. I am just getting around to commenting on one of them. Here is an idea for you. In our garage we installed a car lift. We have a tall garage and if it's a vette you can walk under it. To do this we had the track to the door extended to go up along the ceiling and changed the opener to a model that mounts on the wall next to the door and turns the shaft. That idea would completely clear your wood rack. I wish I could attach the picture here.
