As a mom, I needed to hear Riley's thoughts on parenthood. It made me feel better. 🙂 We may need him to have his own 60 second weekly segment to tell us his thoughts of the week.

Just wanted to come here and say that when I watch your videos, I feel seen as a mom but also, I really admire the way you are as a mom. You are very intentional with them and that fact that you worry that you’re not doing enough speaks volumes as to the kids of mama you are. The narrative online is so ridiculous and I appreciate vlogs like yours that show REAL life. ❤️

Thank you McKenzie! I struggle so much with the sanitized/romanticized version of motherhood that seems to be the center of so much online content. It's so unrealistic, and I know that, but it still creeps in. Thank you for being here and for your lovely comment.

Even though I only know you online, I have been following since way before you were a mom. I cant believe Nora is almost 5!! I've always thought you're an incredible mother! It's so normal to feel that pressure to be more and do all the things but try to give yourself grace. You are the best mom for your kids! I've found myself relating to you on many different levels and in many different seasons over the years. ❤

Remember most of what you see Mom's do online is just for their followers. Yes there are Mom's that do all the fun little lunches, special holiday everything.. But as a Mimi to five they remember your time more than any of the other things. I made homemade everything for my kids and they remember me doing silly crafts with them. You are doing great.

In response to the car chat with Riley- Brene Brown says you get children focussed families, parent focussed families and family focussed families. Ours is a family focussed family- sometimes my needs/ wants come before my kids wants and that’s ok.

Also, there was a study that said working Parents spend more time with their kids now, than stay at home Mums spent with their kids in the 80s! Because we were out playing on the street all day. A day out was a rare treat not a weekly event.

Blair, as a 57 year old mom of 3, I promise you, there is nothing that you are falling short on being a wonderful mom!! Believe me, when your kids become teens that’s when listening, understanding, showing affection and speaking encouragement and being a trusting, loving, compassionate, safe space will be everything they need. Just follow the example of what your mom gave to you, and even then, give yourself grace because sometimes, you can give your absolute best and they will go through a zone of needing space from you 😅 maybe, maybe not! We can only try, but none of us are perfect. Do not let social media be your guide, that’s not being nice to yourself. 😉❤

Parenting is hard and the bar has been set exceedingly high. I don't know any mother who doesnt question if they are doing enough for their kids. It doesn't matter if you're a stay at home parent or a working parent, we all feel guilt! Don't let anybody project their insecurities onto you. All that matters is what your partner and your children think about you. You are loved, you are worthy and you are enough 🩷
@BlairLamb2 ай бұрын
You're exactly right. Thanks for sharing your perspective
@Liezjeuh2 ай бұрын
Thank you again, Blair, for being so open and honest about your struggles and motherhood and crying and ... all that! Because we often forget that we are not alone in this. And you said it so well, the bar is SO high these days. And the struggles are so different now than 20 years ago or whatever. I have a teenager, she is 14, and with all the social media and electronic devices ... there have been so many things that I had to figure out and now as a single mom it's even harder sometimes. I can always go to my mom for support or advice or whatever, but with social media and cellphones and all that... she doesn't have that same experience from when I was 14.... The first real mass production cellphones came out when I was like 16 or so... I had my first one when I was 17 and the only thing you could do was call somebody and after a while texts were available too. That was it. You could store like 10 people or so on your phone, no pictures, no color screen, no touch screen, just calling and texting. So that has been a struggle for me and other parents from my generation. It is so scary how fast it all evolves too. When I'm finally familiar with something, I'm already 3 new apps, 10 new 'social media slang' words and 5 new phone generations behind LOL My goodness.... I mean... school starts in september here and for the next 4 years, my daughter will be getting a laptop from school. When I was in high school, we had like one classroom with maybe 6 computers and we had to sit in groups of 3 or 4 per computer.... for like an hour per week... LOL it's so mind blowing sometimes. I always love Riley's point of view too. He can be so down to earth and I think us moms need to hear his opinion more often haha ;-) Thank you Riley for your thoughts! Oh, my mom will be visiting her Belgian friend in the US in a few weeks time, I have been sending her things that she needs to bring back for us like Liquid I.V. and real Oreo's, because the European versions are so not the same! Any tips for things I could ask her to bring back to Belgium? :-)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and perspective. The online/phone/social media challenge is not one I'm looking forward to as our kids get older. Hoping to hold off until they're 25 ;) LOL How fun that your mom is coming to the US to visit her friend! Nerds Gummy Clusters if you can't get those in Belgium and any of the Billie Body washes (orange is my fave) come to mind first!

@@BlairLamb as a mum I need to remind myself of this too 🤣 it’s always easy to say it to someone else 😃 I know we only have a glimpse of your life but from what I have watched over the years I would say you are smashing motherhood on top of running your own business, taking care of your marriage and dealing with all those things that life just throws at you. You are not alone in how you are feeling 🥰🥰 just keep doing YOUR best 🥰xxxx

I have learned to ask myself, whenever someone's post online makes me question my own parenting, what are they selling? Is it a product? Some stupid "course"? Or are they simply selling fear so that I am more open to their "solution", which is usually a political or religious idea that doesn't track with my own values and faith? Motherhood - and parenthood - should never look exactly like someone else's because none of us have the same kids. We don't need to be "perfect", rather aim for a goodness-of-fit for our own needs and for our kids' needs.

I enjoyed and appreciated your perspective about motherhood. Although I’m not a mother, I often feel senses of inadequacy in life. I sing an old Christian song from the group Casting Crowns. “The voice of truth tells me a different story, the voice of truth, says do not be afraid” So when I hear all those other “voices” (social media, my perception), I listen to the voice of truth…Jesus 🤍 have a great week! -Adrina
