Nice rose video. I love the name "Golden Showers" for the climbing rose. I am glad you came across it so I could look it up. Very pretty yellow rose that the pollinators can easily use and there are several KZbin videos showing this rose including a nice specimen growing on Claus Dalby's wall on his video called "My Top 5 Rambler Roses in the Garden". He said it is a rose from the states introduced in 1956. I will link it in another comment since sometimes linked comments KZbin hides.

I love roses, especially climbers! Have you heard of Westerland climbing rose? It's orange and the blooms are a bit ruffly. I have one growing on an arbor with a native honeysuckle (Major Wheeler variety) growing up the other side. They're a similar shade of orange. So pretty together! 🧡 Anyway, might be one to try in your Texas garden! Thanks for the video!!

Oh wow! I’ve been wanting to mix honeysuckle and climbing roses … how do yours do?
@lindsaymason697912 күн бұрын
@@shesamadgardener They do well together. The honeysuckle is more vigorous, of course, but the rose is now over the top of the arbor after two years. Westerland is a Kordes rose, and I find that their roses have glossier leaves that resist disease. I'm happy with it! My biggest challenge is keeping the deer from eating the blooms!

Another very informative video, thank you! I am so drawn to roses. My yard is small, so I have to make room for more if I’m going to add any additional. I’ve made a list from online vendors, but they are so pricey that I’m hoping to find them locally instead. I’m looking for a white rose called Sugar Moon and then a coral/orange/pink rose which I’ve narrowed down to one of these: America, Good Life, Safari, or Tangerine Skies. Good Life or Safari would probably fit better, as they are not as tall as the other two. Fingers crossed!

Also, I find that you're videos and a lot of the seeds you are planting are things I am trying myself this year. The rose one is really funny to me that you posted it when you did because I was JUST looking at a new yellow rose the other day but sort of talked myself out of it to "Think" about it some more. Now I'll probably go get it this weekend. 😆. I have been to some botanical gardens around here and I actually fell in LOVE w/a white Variety called Pope John Paul. It SMELLS DIVINE!! And the White is so pure. From my research on it, it also seems to be a good healthy variety. I would LOVE to have 2 of those and one more yellow one at least to match the one my mom got me last year for my birthday that is now almost as tall as me. I'm 5'5. HEre in Fl. I am in zone 9B. We have been having some cold temps this past week but are expected to go WAY lower starting tomorrow night. We MAY even get snow flurries next week! Hi Amanda! You passed by the John F Kennedy Rose today, and I was hoping you would pick one up. I have one in my garden I salvaged from clearance years ago, and once I put it in the ground it took off and has performed beautifully. It’s a low maintenance rose bush that constantly rewards me with its beautiful blooms. Also agree with you about Lady Banks. When you see one blooming in the spring, you think you have to have one. But once it stops blooming, it’s just a wild mess. I removed mine too, which was no easy task.

I like roses, but the Japanese beetles love them more. I removed a rose because of them, but I still have a red one. I'm thinking of getting another one, but the beetles are a deterrent.
@shampoo711212 күн бұрын
I have the same problem. I have decided to plant most perennials that Japanese beetles are not so attracted to. One suggestion from Fraser Valley Rose Farm KZbin channel was to cut the blooms when the beetles emerge and let them rebloom in time for when the beetles go back underground. I keep trying to put as many beetles into soapy water container as I can find to help diminish the numbers in my garden for the next season.

Now or anytime at this point … just make sure you don’t have any extreme freezes for a week or so, and make sure they are well watered before colder weather. You don’t have to soak the roses that are already in soil like the ones in this video … they have already been “awakened”

I've gone through and lost so many rose bushes at the $60/ea price tag due to who knows what and yet I keep trying. I've come to the conclusion in my 9b Houston garden that black spot is a major problem if I don't continually spray with a fungicide. Because I don't like using chemicals in my mostly organic garden and I get lazy, this has to be my #1 requirement for any rose. My other requirement, which is on an equal #1standing with black spot resistance, is being unaffected by thrips and chilie thrips, which were crazy bad this last summer in our area. These pests appear to be attracted to the favored pink/peach/white/yellow buds mostly as it seems the darker colors and reds are not so much affected. So with this new knowledge, my current requirements are highly fragrant, black spot resistant, probably darker shades and under $25 and possibly on own root plants but might change my mind on this since my on own root plants seem so weak to get started and seem to take longer to get established. I look forward to your video on planting! Thanks for your excellent content!

I don't have a single rose in my garden; have never purchased one. I am in the market for one or two now that I don't work and have a little more garden time. I don't really care for the red or golden yellow tones. I tend to like the blush and pastel pink or peach ones. And I really don't like Knock-Outs or drift roses. So that narrows down the shopping list! I love the English roses but think they may be a little too finicky for my 7B/8A hot humid climate. At my former home, Joseph's Coat was already planted when we moved there and I was able to keep it alive and healthy. It had a little black spot, but not much. So I can recommend it for our climate if I could keep it alive as a novice gardener. Roses have to tick a lot of boxes for me: disease resistant, fragrant, multiple bloom times, no extreme prickly stems. I have a couple of older books that are good references for roses for the South: Antique Roses for the South by William Welch (Texas A&M) and Roses in the Southern Garden by G. Michael Shoup (Antique Rose Emporium). These can be purchased used at a reasonable price on Amazon. Lots of gorgeous photos and detailed information. By the way, Zepherine Drouhin is the rose that Laura planted by the chicken coop on Garden Answer. Have you ever been to Antique Rose Emporium? I plan to visit some public gardens in our area during rose season to get some more ideas.

You might need to spend a little more and buy some that are not grafted.

I don’t have tons of experience with climbers yet, but I currently grow America and it is lovely.

Why is Golden showers a bad name for a rose?
@shesamadgardener12 күн бұрын

OMG! Roses in my area sell for $40 and higher.

They might be original roots and that’s why they are priced that way. These were all grafted so they tend to be less in cost.

The last 3 rose bushes I got from home depot were not the roses in the picture. When they bloomed out they were all pink roses. I don't do pink in my garden so they went in the trash after the season.

Ugh, that’s terrible. I thought they had a return policy 💚
