Great video. Had to smile when you mentioned that only issue with the dowel maker was that it was metric. Living in Australia I cannot for the life of me understand why the USA still insists on using the old system. Metric is so much easier to use, especially in woodwork - working in whole numbers instead of fractions.
@ShopRamblings

I completely agree with you. I use metrics for so many different things. But only using Imperial measurements for the first 40 years of my life has really put me at a disadvantage. It's just another example of our broken political system. They refused to change not because it was better for the people but because of politics.

@@scottswineford6714 Mongolian - Lack of knowledge? Do I sense some racism here?? The imperial system was developed hundreds of years ago and the length of 1 foot even changed over time ( at one stage King Henry II used his foot as the length 😀) and during the reign of King Edward I it was standardised to 1 inch being defined as 3 grains of barley placed lengthwise (or commonly known also about the width of a man’s thumb - interesting note many countries have the same word for thumb as inch e.g Dutch “duim” ), with 1 foot being 12 of those barley inches. The ease of metric system goes further: There is 1000kg of water in 1 cubic metre. I have no idea what the weight of 1 cubic foot or 1 cubic yard of water is, but I bet it’s some odd number with fractions. That’s why all those countries where the imperial system was developed changed over to the metric system with its multiples of 10. The only countries in the world who still use the imperial system are USA, Liberia and Myanmar- makes you think? However I do understand that the vast majority of scientists in the USA opted to start using the metric system as it is so much easier.

I agree. Metrics are so much better. I still can't guess at the size of something in metrics and be as close if I guessed imperial. Change is hard, but in this case, it would be for the best.

For fun, I bought a few wood working tools from Temu, including a drill guide and roller guides. I assembled the drill guide but it was completely useless. After you attach the drill the flimsy plastic base wobbles plus or minus 15 degrees. You can eyeball a plumb drill hole better than the tool gives. Next, I put the roller guides on the table saw. Tested them before starting the saw. Ran a 4 foot one rip cut OK. Tried to rip a few inches off of a 12 x 19 x 3/4 walnut board, an easy cut. To my shock, the roller guides pushed the wood into the blade causing a kickback and sending the board flying into my gut Locke being hit with a baseball bat. Conclusion, Temu tools range from useless to outright DANGEROUS!!!

I bought the same stock guides that you bought - the red with gold. Something went wrong with the shipment and said that it was being sent back. Temu refunded the $180 order. I then ordered the ones with 'Jighole' printed on them. They also have a white arrow and it says "feeding direction". The package actually didn't get shipped back to temu. I received both sets. The red with gold feeds in both directions, and the JigHole red with silver feeds in only one direction. Sorry! You bought the wrong ones...

This was a highly informative and enlightening video on Temu sold products. I'm a disabled/retired Firefighter/Paramedic a new woodworker on a fixed income attempting to acquire the necessary equipment to start up my life's passion. When these functional and cheaper tools present themselves, I must take advantage of them until I can afford my "Made in the USA" tools. I can understand and agree with the argument around China's outright Intellectual Property Theft. But will I, an individual, not buying these cheaper tools, that work as good as the patented ones, stop these practices? No, this will not stop this because our own US Government just applies lip service without any teeth to protect their own Intellectual Property Theft. Large Corporations just write off their theft as "cost of doing business with China" and attempt to control the damage. What are the solutions?

It's s8mple...the industrial rev9lution that gave you every advantage you have today, was based on the Imperial standard. It has not grawbacks, wether it be designing the greatest super computer hardware or the best bridges and industrial inventions the world has ever seen. They ONLY advantage of the metric system is that it allows for people who can't think quickly to interpret math. Those people should stay on their metric "crutch".

Yeah, they have some worthless tools and some decent ones. Their prices were a lot cheaper. Now that they have raised their prices, it is a lot harder to find good deals. I always make sure to test everything and send back the bad tools. If they have to pay for shipping to return poor quality tools and give refunds, it takes away their incentive to make them. I have found that banggood.com has a lot of high-quality woodworking tools. I have been buying from them for 2 years. I have had a couple of shipments that took a month, but most are 2 weeks. I have got some of my highest quality tools from them. I don't buy many tools from TEMU anymore.

I'm really confused about how that "thin rip jig" was supposed to work.
@justgoballistic
@justgoballistic 8 ай бұрын
He was using it wrong. It goes in the left miter slot. You set the distance from the blade to the thickness you want to rip, say like 3mm, then use the fence to push your stock over to the roller bearings and lock the fence. So this thing is set up behind the blade say 25 mm. You have to reset the fence with each cut, but they will be consistent and not get trapped between the right side of the blade and the fence. Always start with as wide of stock as possible . The thin strip will be coming off the left side of the blade, not the right side.

I regret that my demonstration of the tool was inadequate. It can be used on either side of the blade. The more common use is, as you described, but it can be used on either side of the blade as long as it is behind the blade and the fence is on the opposite side. I also use it in the manner shown in the video. My videos are unscripted. I believe that the day before, I had been cutting some small pieces and had attempted to use the miter saw. The dust collection system kept sucking the small pieces into the back of the blade. I used the method shown in the video, but with a block attached to the fence. This was on my mind, and I should have demonstrated using it both ways. My intention was to provide a brief demonstration of each tool, not a comprehensive review.

Just by chance I received the router jig as a gift today. It's damned awkward to use because the screws that keep the pieces together and allow them to slide are very difficult to access. It is large (I got the 500mm) and has scratched my rather nice workbench top while assembling it. The sliding inserts also need to be carefully placed depending on the required configuration. Thus, the set up is quite fiddly and if you get it wrong the first time, it's having to fiddle with the screws and inserts again. There is no doubt it is a precision jig but a PIA to use. I'm looking at re-designing it to make it easier to work with, especially those pesky little screws and sliding inserts need to be addressed. Please do a review of the many different ways of using this jig to demonstrate its full capabilities and the issues.

I'd never buy Chinese drill bits. I've bought Harbor Fright bits before. The steel was so bad that they couldn't drill a hole. I haven't bought TEMU (they spam too much) but I've bought Bangood tools. I haven't bought a dud. I did buy a drawer installation jig that didn't have any instructions. It has a spacing bar but there is no way to use it on both sides with readjusting it. I have the Fonson thin rip guide from Bangood. It's too short to use on the left side of the blade (I always use the right side). They're intended to be used for ripping strips. The Woodpeckers router jig has clamping pieces to hold it down to a dog hole bench (like an MFT) using clamps from the bottom side. This keeps the clamps out of the way of the router. The clamps keep it from bending as yours did in the video. The Woodpeckers is heavier and works really well. If it's clamped down, I'm sure this will work really well too.

I'm curious about what the solution is. And I don't know if you have ever tried to get your invention on the market or not, but it's a cutthroat venture. 3M is a more honest business. They tell you up front that once you submit your idea or invention to them, they own it and are not obligated to compensate you at all, even if they produce it as a product, or use parts of it to improve one of their existing products.

@@acarpentersson8271I’m not sure if you can call it honest, when the business pretty much tells you they will steal your product and not compensate you fairly. That’s more mafia style strong arming.

After sitting in outside in the sun all day, both were still 75% ice. I didn't feel it would matter if one had 5 grams more of ice. The amount was close enough that it would fall in the margin of error for the non scientific test. Would you be interested in a with more testing of the cups? if so what would you like to see?

You think those players are a rip off, most of the earrings they advertise as having real stones are actually just a picture of a real stone when you receive it. In clothing, they show the models in high-end pieces of something embroidered, but what you get is the design is printed not embroidered. It's very deceptive. I have received a couple of items that were nicely made though. You just have to be VERY careful and read everything.

1. I use PayPal, so they don't have my credit card number. 2. Most large orders I have had at least 1 item I have had to return. I have never had an issue. Just remember you can return as many items as you want, but they they only pay for shipping once. 3. If I get $300 worth of goods for $200. If I do get screwed on a $20 item, I am still coming out ahead. It is mostly personal expectation that will determine if you will be happy or not. I have not ordered much recently as their prices seem to have gone up, and I got most items I wanted. I think it is crazy at all the news stories that came out about how they were a scam and stealing people information but with their billions in sales, they never showed any facts. I do think they police the sellers. I have heard of counterfeit items being sold on their site. I looked for them and only found the one listing for knipex pliers. Then it was gone a week later.

China does not regulate their factories like we do in the US. Unfortunately over regulating in the US has just pushed the manufacturing from the US to other countries. We are getting the same products regardless of where they are bought from. Just look at Stanley. Stanley was making metal thermoses in the US since 1913. In 2002 they moved having their cups made in China because it was cheepier. Since they have become popular again it has been shown they have lead in their coatings. With that said I did buy some metal cups but other than that I haven't bought any thing else that comes in contact with food from TEMU.

You get what you pay for. I always buy the best tools I can or that are available. ALWAYS! I do not need to be injured with instructionLESS crap from weird places. I do not want to support the odd military fighting for world dominance because some companies are just a subsidiary of some non-democratic government, somewhere. Buy quality! You are then seldom disappointed! Seldom hurt, injured or killed. Plus your own oddball modifications are just not required! A German Trac saw for $1000? Yup! I'll save up and buy it. Because Germany, France, etc. do NOT make crap! A few other countries seem to only make crap, which I'm just not interested in having in my house! But to each their own! Buy the best quality! You are seldom ever disappointed!!! And in the long run the more expensive item is also usually the cheapest. Most pleasant! And longest lasting! As well as--- the safest to use!
@ShopRamblings

I understand your perspective. While I acknowledge the benefits of investing in high-quality tools, I believe that for infrequent use, a more affordable option may be more practical. If I find that I require a higher-quality track saw in the future, I can always upgrade.

The problem is that we are. We do not manufacture here anymore like we did People comment on their Iphones that are made in China about how they would never buy from China. Then drive off in their electric car powered by lithium battery mined in China. IN 2022 we imported $536.3 billion in good from China. The population of the US is 331.9 million. That is over $1,600 for every man woman and child directly from China. Then add in all the products we import from other countries that got their materials from China and then sold them to us. I think it needs to stop but buying the same product off of Amazon for more isn't going to fix the problem. We need to hold the Politicians take make this happen accountable.

Which one of these items used slave labor. These are the same items made in the same factories as the stuff you buy from Amazon and Walmart. Any product that is made in China has a chance of being made with slave labor. Even if you put an American company name on it and sell it at an American store. If it is made in China, we have no control over how it was made.

Everyone has a right to their beliefs. I respect yours. I wish more products were still made in America. I don't see how paying more for the exact product from Amazon or Walmart is good, but cutting out the middle man is bad. The few counterfeit items I have seen on TEMU have been taken down quickly. I have heard from others who have found their products counterfeited on Amazon and couldn't get them taken down. Things will change as they always do, but so far, I have received mostly good products, and the one knockoff I received, I had no issues getting a refund.
